Post-match discussion

Sun, 17 December 2017

Ok, so a wins, a wins, a win but as my kids would say that was meh.

All Utd fans can be happy tonight.

The positive fans can celebrate because we won and the moaners can celebrate because we were dreadful in the 2nd half and had to cling on.

Positives

3 points
Another goal for Lukaku
Pogba is now back

Negatives

Another set piece shambles
Dreadful 2nd half

Ok, so when are 3 points not important? After every match, it's the same pattern, doesn't matter how we play, it's the 3 points that are important.

We were quite good after the first 20 minutes till the end of the 1st half. Why do we keep sitting back and inviting pressure?

Really surprising, why we need to sit deep against West Brom, Bournemouth and the likes.

Why not utilize our attacking depth and use it, really frustrating.

As a team we're not playing any better than last season, but we're somehow managing to turn the draws onto wins.

Never sit back please. I know manager takes the buck but our players are no saint either. Herrera being the biggest culprit.

Anyways we won and trust me this WBA will be tough to beat as Liverpool and spurs both found out.

What another poor performance. We were playing the Baggies not Real Madrid ffs. Second half what happened? Is it Mou's tactics or are the players that poor? Another 5/10 performance.

West Brom look like relegation candidates and we were scrambling to hold on to our lead against these.

Do we even practise formations and passing the ball. We seem to lose the ball after every 3rd or 4th pass.

Good win away from home, though the second half was really poor. In control for 75min, we sit off them and one mistake later we are under a lot of pressure.

Pleased that Lukaku scored again and had a good performance. Defensively we were very good for most of the game.

We paid the price for being too passive throughout the game. We were comfortable but you have to play with a level of intensity, which we didn't do because it was too comfortable first half. At one point I thought the referee had stopped play but we were genuinely just standing around doing feck all. When West Brom eventually got into a bit of a rhythm we were completely unable to deal with it as we were sleep walking through the game.

Just want to reiterate what everyone above has said, not a good performance, 3 more points....Pogba back.
Job done, could of been better.

Wasn't pretty but we got there, hopefully Pogba will give us a lift because you get the feeling we can't keep putting in questionable performances and picking up 3 points but for now it'll do.

Shamefully holding on against the might of West Brom. A win is a win though, Pogba to return for the next game will see a significant increase in team performance.

Gareth Barry causing us problems at the tender age of 54 is just not the done thing. Gave me heart palpitations he did. Evil man, pure evil.

I fecking hate the fact that we just hand over the initiative like that. It's not enjoyable to watch, and surely we're more likely to make it 3-0 than they are to make it 2-1 if we keep attacking.

Mourinho's made watching United more enjoyable in a number of ways, but this aspect is fecking horrible.

We are truly shit.

Mourinho can feck off with his park the bus football.

Horrible 2nd half, just like in the last match. Need to finish off teams like these early so that our main players gets rest, especially during this festive period. # points in the bag is the only positive thing.

6 wins out of 7. The meltdown is real.

All about getting through this period without Pogba.
That's it, it's not worth an over analysis or micro complaining

Good win all in all. A good goal from Rom and then a nice deflection to increase the lead.

Bit unremarkable otherwise.

Well for one I give the feck, fair enough if you don't.

What do you expect? Expansive football all the time? You should manage your expectations.

At half time, I thought we were going to come out and blow them away. Why didn't we? We could have. One scrappy arse-defected set piece gave them all the momentum to peg us back, when we should have been making it 3 or 4 nil. We're quite desperate for a lift and some momentum after the City game. An emphatic win against a hopeless side away from home could have done that going in to the hectic holiday season. A win is a win, but I think we missed an opportunity to put some wind in our sails.

Matic was excellent, but he was finished after 80 minutes, he must be knackered. He was a bargain though, the effect he's had on this team.

Bit of a shit performance. I hate how Mourinho goes defensively after getting a lead. Just keep the ball and kill the game like that, no need at all to just park the bus and give all the momentum to the opponent. It invites trouble, especially as we're shite at it. Whatever though. Win is a win. Pogba back next game. Hope Valencia isn't gone for long.

On player performances.... pretty meh from everyone. Not sure if anyone was over a 7/10, nobody below a 5. Can't even say who was Motm, maybe Jones or Smalling. Or matic. The rest meh.

Without Pogba and Martial we are a bland, workmanlike, dull team to watch, and in the end we were lucky to scrape the 3 points. The fact the league is gone with half a season to play has increased the flatness but we need to keep ahead of the chasing pack and maintain 2nd.

We cant circulate the ball well enough to save our asses.

The attackers relax heavily once they sense that the game might be won.

We cant defend set pieces.

Fair assessment. I am happy enough but my son is seething

Excellent result and just proves how much we've improved from last season. We are racking up points away from home now, which is really encouraging in the long term.

Very comfortable first half and most of second half until we conceded from the corner. Its the third opponent goal in a row that we've conceded from a set piece. The other two from the citeh match. Its very unlike Mourinho led teams to be this weak defending aerial balls. Needs to fix this soon.

Was a spirited fighting win and the players looked like they were trying to conserve energy for the coming weeks, with so many matches. Almost backfired but we were solid defensively.

The only criticism is really that Mata and Herrera just dont contribute enough to the attack. They have somehow become industrious players but they were bought as attacking players! Its shocking and I just can only imagine how much better we would be with a Griezmann or similar on that right flank. The service to Lukaku would immediately double.

Hopefully Valencia also isnt out for too long. We really dont have cover at right back. Lindelof? Young? If its Young, then I hope we use Shaw at left back. Rojo is dire.

3 points, and we have gotten 6 points out of 9 when Pogba was suspended. Not a bad tally. I just wish I could be spared of heart attacks in the last 10 minutes more often.

Now that he will be back, we can expect some better football. Especially with Herrera on the bench.

What a slog. Not a great game to watch. It's a bit sad to watch us hang on for dear life toward the end of games against poor teams. We should be killing games off.

In the end, we've got the 3 points thanks to a lucky deflection.

No idea on who to pick for MotM. Matic, probably.

Another unconvincing win and another weekend of football where the media will be slating us while praising city. We really have lost our aura and you really can see a new generation of kids and players alike wanting to support or join our neighbors over in Stockport.
You got all that from a slack 20 minutes?!

Not our best game but this month is all about results. Couldn’t care a bit about the performance

The only positive is that we won, but that was ugly stuff.

Why did we stop playing all of a sudden?? It is ridiculous that this squad of players can't string a couple of passes together, and just keep the ball.

For having a big side we don't look very secure when defending set pieces.

That said, getting the points over the Christmas period is more important than the performance.
