I guess but I'm sure even before Smith ran, when they were questioned they struggle to name one. I still think chances are there isn't anyone.

Which even if your pro Corbyn(Like myself) is still pretty bad news.

Just started it. I hate the thing Corbyn does with his eyebrow when he thinks he's saying something clever or witty.

Smith's so lightweight as well. I'm going to hate this.

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest, but there's better than this. I don't think we've seen the last of Ummuna. Benn and Jarvis are popular within the PLP, and I'm absolutely convinced that David Miliband is hanging about until he feels the time is right to return.

Unless the PLP plan on barring everyone bar themselves there is absolutely no way Hilary Benn gets the nod from the membership. They won't give the job to someone who voted in favour of Iraq, let alone someone who then went on to do well to hide his erection in the Commons, while talking about bombing Syria.

If Corbyn wins(Which looks likely) Benn is done for good, same can be said of David Miliband. They won't any contest that involves members voting. Ummuna maybe but again it would be tricky and Javis is a complete unknown, the PLP seem more in favour of Jarvis for he's back story more than anything else(which is incredibly impressive.) Ex Army = UKIP votes, although worth saying Javis on constituency voted out.

I don't disagree with you guys at all. It's just what I think the tactic seems to be. Smith is there to weaken Corbyn's position as leader and in the event Corbyn wins (which is likely), I think they will hang back in the hope he either destroys himself or is on the end of a resounding defeat come 2020.

I think Miliband is biding his time. By 2021 things will have changed a great deal. It all depends on whether the Labour core will want another change of direction if it becomes apparent that Corbyn can never win.
 
Actually thought both were as good as I've seen them, but my expectations were very, very low to begin with. I haven't even been following the campaign of late, it's been too painful.

Jeremy - Stronger on some questions than I expected (I think he's more media trained than he has been in the past, which is obviously a step in the right direction), but he's just so, so poor on certain issues. Brexit in particular, the idea of him being involved in any Brexit negotiations is terrifying. I don't get the impression that he has any idea of the impact of losing free trade on jobs, for a basic example. Again, he's never going to be Prime Minister, he appears to be a dreadful leader of the party, with terrible working relationships with his MPs (I believe Smith's complaints that he could never get a one-on-one meeting with Jez, similar has been said my lots of people), has an awful handling of the media and his own image, and never seems to be able to create a 'win' from Tory losses. But he's going to win this election, and if there are any other challenges before 2020 you can imagine he'd win those too. Sigh...

Owen - Ugh. Not cut out for this campaign.

The Crowd - :lol: Kinda loved the camp panto (boo, hiss, "you gotta think about it Jeremy man!"). The period where random blokes from the crowd took turns to shout at Smith was hilarious too.

If Labour lose the next general election, whenever it is, and if people think that Jezza Corbyn is unelectable and ask him to resign, David Miliband and Umunna will contest the leadership elections. Miliband is in the shadows, biding his time.
 
Thought Corbyn did well. Seems to be growing in his role.Not sure why Owen Smith was there ,might as well have been Corbyn takes questions from the audience. I would love to share in Corbyns optimism of when he beats Owen the party will come together .But if you listen to Owen i can just see more throwing toys out of the pram from the PLP.
 
I wouldn't want to see Corbyn Prime Minister but christ Owen is a weak alternative. Whats up with politics at the moment?

Trump / Clinton too... Ugh.

Yeah just watched it and id feel pretty unrepresented if i was anti-Corbyn. All that QT did is make Corbyn look in control and the alternatives less credible.

His statement that he wouldn't work under Corbyn is pathetic to be honest. He talks about wanting power rather than being in opposition but then he'd rather sit on the sidelines of his own party.

Wow, didn't know Campbell was on as well. This will be a fecking nightmare for Labour.
 
The culture surrounding university degrees is much of the problem IMO. What we need is a credible range of vocational qualifications, as well as more emphasis on apprenticeships from government. Is a student going to be better off for studying a business degree over four years, or doing a 12-24 month course in computing/languages before actually entering employment?
 
The problem with Campbell acting the pragmatist here is that he knows Smith can't win -- he needs to be conciliatory if he cares about Labour.
 
Campbell conveniently forgetting that Labour actually made a right pig's ear of devolution.

Audience overwhelmingly against selection. People aren't that stupid, selection means that for every winner there's five to ten times as many losers, they can work out the odds.
Strange tory man seems unable to distinguish between selection and streaming, some expert.
 
McDonnell can't claim victory on the government's tax credit u-turn or disability benefit, those were both internal revolts.
 
Sturgeon was a total opportunist after Brexit, and the SNP have since decided against a referendum in the near-term.
