Rafael

The most amazing thing about this is almost the fact there's two of them!

That would have been like Messi if had a twin brother when Barca bought him - without making any direct comparisons between Messi and Rafael - I'll leave the slightly over the top comments to Ekeke :D.

Naw :P I've only spoken about his potential which is plain to see. Unless you dont think that purely from these 2 performances, he looks more ready for the first team than Evans (Obviously 2 matches is not much to go on, but lets wait till he drops his standards) in which case fair enough. Your opinion and all that.

Just a great talent. It was a big challenge, not easy to come on as a sub. Made a mistake when he headed it back giving away a corner but took responsibility and it didn't effect him. He is definitely getting minutes this season if he maintains this level

I think my appreciation and praise of the twins has been well documented on here - even before these two friendlies - after I saw them at the youth tournament.

Which most likely didn't mention Evans any which way. I know you rate them highly but as I say, the only over the top thing I've perhaps said is that Rafael seems ready for the first team - more so than Evans.

I agree. It took confidence to even think about heading the ball back as you stated, which I think he has an abundance of (confidence that is), similar to a confident young winger about five years ago.

You just seemed to go into overdrive after the match, nothing wrong with that, I've been giddy as feck 24/7 since the Peterborough match.

Whether or not he looks more ready for first team football than Evans is practically impossible to say after only two games with the first team squad imo - Evans has also looked very calm and mature this pre-season, and he would probably be the safest pick of the two, only because of their different styles. Rafael on the other hand could potentially have a much bigger impact even though he's only 18.

One thing's for sure though; I wouldn't have any problems with Rafael playing against Newcastle, in fact I think we could probably use his speed against the very fast Jonas Gutierrez - Rafael won't start against Newcastle though, but you just can't help but think about the potential matches with this kid and his twin.

I can't wait to see him in action again, and to think he's got a clone just as talented and they're both ours is mind blowing.

tell you what. i've been well-impressed by Evans, particularly his distribution from the back.

in general, i've been impressed with our youngsters: the twins, Evans, Gibson, Cleverley, Possebon, and Cathcart. i also thought Simpson did well against Espanyol. he just needs a bit more belief in himself.

a thing i've noticed with this lot is that they like to have the ball short, passing or dribbling their way out of trouble and they prefer to run with it to create space rather than just pass to do the same. you can expect this of the foreign lads, i suppose, but not so much the local lads, so it's been good to see that all that talk about what we as a club are doing behind the scenes to improve youth development isn't simply just talk.

i hope they carry on improving.

Thanks

What about his twin brother. How old is he?

Absolutely fantastic to see him continue where he started in the first match. I think that performance surpassed his debut, looked even more assured and solid, against top class (well I like to tell my Juve supporting friend they are shit but they are a serious team) opposition too.
Pity no sign of Fabio

Fabio will be turned into a left sided midfielder. I have done my calculations and I have uncovered Fergie's wily plans for the twins. I predict that in two seasons time the pair will be huge. They will both make it at United. You can quote me on that!

That's quite some statement!

I'd be a bit more cautious than that. I like to see more of him, especially in competitive games.

Hopefully, I can agree with you in 6 months time.

Of course he'll never reach the levels of Best, Giggs and Ronaldo - you only get them once a decade - Besides Rafael is a fullback. I'd be well satisfied if he turns out as good as Evra.

I'm just excited to see a young player doing so well in his first couple of games...only God knows the future.

First time I've seen him as I haven't watched the other game he played in yet. Wow, he impressed me. I mean, he looks so small but he didn't half get stuck in. Got forward at the right times and managed to do some good things in the final third.

He should be getting minutes in the coming season, he quite clearly got some talent.

dont understand why you're comparing a ball playing fullback with a centre back?

he´s impressed me more over the last 5 or so years than any other youngster who´s made it into the first team pool. Based on his cameo performance against Juve if he doesn´t make it big then no one will from the United youth

As for Evans - I reckon he´ll play around 20 - 30 games for us in the first team this season - starting and as sub - if SAF keeps him

He was the biggest (only?) highlight of yesterdays game.

Even the two welsh guys next to me who sat quietly through the game made a few rumbles when he had the ball.

Class act, can't wait to see him play more.

Rafael: Greater than Pele and Maradona

Because he's got a hard-on for Pique (and, indeed, most Spanish footballers) so never misses chance to snipe at someone who displaced a Spaniard that was already in our squad (Evans) or a potential signing who might prevent us signing David Villa (Berbatov)

Although he's only played 135 odd minutes so far, he certainly looks like the best young prospect at United for years.

What a pleasure it was to see young Rafael tear it up yesterday. No stage fright for this one. Very much looking forward to seeing him as a first team regular before long. Fearless.

They just couldnt get past him in defence. And he had that great run.

number 99

has to be a temp no. right ? ?
fabio is 98

I thought they were 18 and 19 in the peterbrough game, but could be wrong. Some set of consecutive numbers relatively low like that

Well #18 is Paul Scholes.

Can see them being 19 and 20. Ole :(

I saw that myself when I looked, and I see Kuzchak is 29, but I still got 8 and 9 in my head. Whatever it was it was a consecutive set of numbers, and it wasnt that high (98, 99)far as I rememember. Looking at the squad numbers there I cannnot think of any logical one to fit what I remember......thats gonna annoy me now.

Paul Scholes didnt play that match. It was 18 for Rafael and 19 for Fabio. Im saying that its no their real numbers.

I'm not remembering wrong at all:
Check out the picks of the match line-ups for the match in the videos thread. Definately 18 and 19.

Obviously not their real numbers though, given Scholes is 18.

^^ :)

he had another excellent game, made a great cross for Scholesy who should've buried it, and had loads of great runs. He's not afraid of putting his foot in and throwing a few tackles around either. I think Simpson sould be quite worried if Rafael keeps putting in these types of performances.

evra improved on his defending ..
so can rafael
he will be quality .. loves going forward and is good at it :D
