Holy shit! I had to google that to see if it was real!

Liverpool's third season under Rafael Benítez was a tumultuous time both on and off the pitch. In 2007 Liverpool FC finally changed hands, with Americans George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks buying the club; work began on a radically redesigned state-of-the-art stadium at Stanley Park; and the team reached a seventh European Cup final. Without doubt a new era has begun.

Above Us Only Sky is much more than just the story of one season. As well as reflecting on the recent past, this book looks to the future, to examine how the new regime can make the Reds competitive in all aspects of the game - from silverware, and the pounds (and dollars) that help secure it, through to the players to whom Gillett and Hicks will be looking to achieve success on the pitch, including exciting new signings Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel, to name just two. What do the Reds need to do to win a 19th league crown?

I don't know where this gem is, but there's a wonderful thing Tomkins wrote which laid out all of Benitez' achievements. After the obvious ones, he was obviously trying to get down a whole page of A4 and the accolades became more and more obscure. He started delving into such wondrous achievements like "first manager to lead a side to two 3-0 wins consecutively at Anfield in the Christmas period" and "first manager to lead a side to a victory of more than four goals over a Turkish club in the CL" and things like that.
I've had a quick look, and I can't find it. Damn.

Some Rafa Benítez Facts (and Records) | The Tomkins Times | Paul Tomkins' blog about Liverpool Football Club (LFC)

That it?

 Cheers.

Set a club record of 21 goals scored by substitutes in a season – previous record was 12. -

Ryan Babel became the club’s 2nd highest ever goalscoring substitute (with 8 goals).

Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick against Burnley to become only the 5th player in the club’s history to score a hat-trick in 3 different competitions.

Clutching at straws a tad there

sorry gents but while that %&@? is still manager i am spending my money on something else. i am on the dole right now and until LFC are straight and honest with me then I can spend the cash I have on other things

Surely not?!

Under-fire Roy Hodgson has blasted Liverpool's supporters for not supporting the team after his side suffered another humiliating defeat at the hands of Wolves.

Mick McCarthy’s Wanderers heaped further misery on the Anfield club after Stephen Ward’s goal condemned them to their eighth defeat of the season.

The home fans were understandably angry about the loss to the side who, before the match, were bottom of the Premier League, and made their feelings known during the game and at the final whistle.

Chants for Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish rung around Anfield and a chorus of boos greeted the defeat but Hodgson insists it is nothing new and asked the fans to keep supporting the club in the bad times.

He said: "I'm getting used to the negativity. Kenny [Dalglish] was a rival for the job and it was given to me. He's a Liverpool legend.

"But I don't like it. It's the Kop's way of showing they are not happy with what the team is doing. We've had to live with negativity ever since I came here.

"The famous Anfield support has not really been there – there were problems with the owners and they have been singing for Kenny.

"I can only hope these 'fans' become 'supporters' as well because this is a time when the club needs support.

"The negativity does affect confidence."

Hodgson revealed he was disappointed with how his players reacted after an extended break because of the winter weather disruptions.

"Disappointing is the buzzword at the moment. There is not a stronger word than that," he added.

"We came here hoping we would fly around the field and play well but we did the opposite. It's as bad a team performance as we've given, certainly here at Anfield.

"Rather than a disappointing 0-0 we let them in to score for an even more disappointing 0-1. That compounded the problem.

"Credit to Wolves, their gameplan was good. They won challenges. I don't think we had the tempo to our game to say we deserved anything more than we got."

Despite the lacklustre defeat the former Fulham boss insists his side are desperate to show the fans they can move up the table.

He added: "It's a sad way to end 2011. We were desperate to show the supporters we can move up the table and we let them down.

"They made that perfectly clear to us. I can only empathise – if I was a supporter I would be extremely disappointed.

"But I've seen times like this. I have belief in my own ability, the players are working hard to bring me and the club success.

"It's going to be picking them up after they didn't do the job tonight"

Oh god.

look...they basically have the same side....I mean they have retained their two best players...Torres and Gerrard.

Sure Roy as the manger is ultimately responsible.

But where is the fight? I mean at the least they should be playing their hearts out for Liverpool.

I could not believe what I saw just now.

it was not even funny.

still it was disgraceful to hear those boos...

A season of Tomkinsisms

2008-09
In 2008 recorded their highest points tally in a calendar year (81) for 18 years.

Liverpool won 9 successive home league games for the 1st time since November 1990.

Fernando Torres became the club’s 2nd highest ever scorer in his first 50 games (34 goals).

Ryan Babel became the club’s 2nd highest ever goalscoring substitute (with 8 goals).

Liverpool came from behind to defeat Manchester United in the league for the 1st time in 42 years.

End Chelsea’s 84-game unbeaten home record.

Became only the 2nd English team to win in the Bernabeu.

At Anfield inflicted upon Real Madrid their biggest ever Champions League defeat.

Steven Gerrard became only the 2nd Liverpool player to play 100 times for the club in Europe.

Recorded their biggest win at Old Trafford for 72 years. It was also the 1st time 4 Liverpool players had scored at United in the same game.

Led the table for the 1st time ever in the Premiership with 2 games to play.

Broke Bill Shankly’s record of 65 European matches as Liverpool manager.

Broke Bob Paisley’s record of 40 European wins as Liverpool manager.

Recorded his 100th league win as manager in his 181st game. It was the 3rd quickest ever by a Liverpool manager and 50 games faster than Alex Ferguson.

Equalled club record set in 1904-05 by winning 13 away league games.

Amassed their highest points total ever in the Premier League (86) beating the 82 set in 2005-06. Their highest in the league since 1987-88.

Scored at least 3 goals in 6 successive games in all competitions for the 1st time in the club’s history.

Finished the campaign with a goal difference of + 50 – their best for 21 years when they amassed + 63 in 1987-88.

Lost just twice in the league – equalling the fewest they had lost in a league campaign for 105 years.

Fernando Torres scored 33 goals in his first 50 league games for the club – the best by any Liverpool player for 52 years.

Pepe Reina kept his 100th clean sheet in the fastest time in Liverpool history (197 games).

Won 75% of all available league points – 2nd highest in the club’s history.

The highest number of points by any team which failed to win the league (38 game seasons)

Nice to see they won their cup final (even nicer that we won the league).

They havent given Hodgson any of the blind support they gave Rafa.........

Led the table for the 1st time ever in the Premiership with 2 games to play.

Oh Goodie. Didn't know they gave out trophies for that.

Also I love how he credits Benitez for some of the players' achievements. For example Gerrard playing his 100th game or whatever.

That was something like "at 2:59 PM, prior to United's late kickoff", too.

Staggering statistic.

And of course all of the record breaking European longevity might just be because of format changes, and their legendary early entry into the 2005/06 competition.

The most deluded of RAWKers crawl out in these threads...

Do we have a "Top 4" squad?

Can't see much wrong with that thread.

Most of the contributors say they don't have a top 4 squad. You get the occasional muppet saying they have as good a starting eleven as the current top 4 and the fair few using it as a way of bigging up Rafa, but most posters in that thread are saying they have the sixth strongest squad in the league.

I'd agree with that. That's about where they should be with the players they have. They are clearly underperforming under Hodgson.

This thread is fecking brilliant:lol:

The King

Here is one gem.

there's only man who can regroup us and truly united us again and that is king kenny!

i get pissed off about people saying he aint managed for 12 years, well he was 15 years ahead of everyone else then. so he'll still only be 3 years in front now!

this guy has won titles at 2 different clubs took newcastle to 2nd and a fa cup final after!! the 1st keegan revolution

this guy is a world class manager, but for some reason he's being treated like the fecking tea lady who's lost touch with the game

If (or more likely when) Hodgson gets the sack his pride may well take a knock but his bank account will be fine....he gets a £3 million pay off.
