RAWK goes into Meltdown 2010/2011

The point was more that it was only literally last week when Webb gave Barton a yellow for an extremely similar challenge and it seems a bit bizarre to give Gerrard a red so soon afterwards.

There you go again, what's bizarre about it? There could be any number of reasons why the decision was different, but that doesn't change a thing with regards to today's game. Unless you are using 'bizarre' to hint that you think Webb did it today because he does favour United?

For what it's worth, I think both should have been red cards. Getting away from the whole Webb debate here, Gerrard's lucky he didn't break Carrick's leg.

You are right. If only you saw that from the start huh?

Depends on your logic really. If you go on the logic that you had two 50/50 ones, then yes, you merited one. It was the same in our game yesterday - we had two shouts(although Walcott has admitted one was a bit of a simulation) and we got one, which seemed fair enough in the end.

 To say the least.

Cheating gooner.

I'm not sure why Alastair is getting harangued here.

We shouldn't have a go at opposition fans just because they make statements that aren't congruent with our view of things. The quality of the forum would be diminished if we censored all the quality opposition posters.

That's not why I've engaged him in debate. Our views (now) on both decisions are the same.

Not surprising to find you in the thick of this debate Alastair, you used to say your apparently partisan interest in the scousers was a liking for Rafa but it's really a bit deeper than that. You maybe an arsenal fan, but seemingly more and more just pro anything contrary to United. Which is a silly reason to join a United forum.

Whether referees favour big clubs over smaller ones is a whole new debate.

From the start, I never said it wasn't a red. I didn't make it clear in my opening post on the matter, but I made it very clear hours ago that I personally thought it was a red.

Yep, it is also dimisnished by people who are only here to disagree. It's ok if they disagree, but not ok if they here to disagree... that's just WUMMING.

It could be coincidence, but Alastair has been very very pro Scouse since he was a newbie ... it actually was quite a shock at one point when he turned out to be a gooner.

He's getting harangued not because he has an opposing view but because he made a bonkers argument that because Webb could have been a incompetent twat and given Gerrard a yellow he has sympathy for the Liverpool fans who thought it shouldn't have been a red card.

It is possible to disagree with an important penalty decision United received without being anti-United. It's selective reading of my posts really - I mean, the other day, I said I really liked the look of Hernandez, and obviously, no-one bats an eye-lid, but that's a sign that I don't hate United at all.

I respect United, actually more than I do Liverpool, in general. But despite that being the truth, it's not going to be believed. I also take issue with being called a Wum simply for disagreeing with senior posters.

But the whole point is you came into this thread playing devils advocate on the back of two 'poor' decisions, one of which you now see was spot on. This is why it looks like you are wumming, because you are basically arguing over half a point that you could have made in the Berba dives thread.

My point was that Webb was, obviously, an incompetent twat last week in the Wigan game, but seemed to have corrected it for this week. Is it anti-United to say that it's a bit odd that he sees two similar challenges, and books one last week and sends the guy off this week? Webb got it right this week, I'm just saying it's a strange one.

That's not why you are being called a WUM Alastair. I'm not lying when we were actually a bit suprised that you weren't a Pool fan, and we spoke about it when you were in the newbs and you said it just got to you that rafa got such an unfair time. And now here we are.

Maybe.

For the 138th time. Odd that none of the other resident Arse fans tend to get involved in these discussions. Yet you can set your watch by Alasturd.

So let me get this straight. Reasons for me being a potential WUM.

1) Defending Rafael Benitez' record as Liverpool manager, and vehemently arguing he's 10X better than Hodgson.

2)Agreeing with various media that the penalty today was not a penalty, and that Webb was being a bit inconsistent given his decision last week.

3)Saying the Nani goal against Spurs was an absolute joke and should never have stood.

Seems a tad harsh to me.

I thought the same thing until tonight. I suppose we all can make a prick of ourselves at times, but the lack of any admission he's wrong shows he isn't as rational as I once thought.

But I suppose that's gooners all round ;)

Well, if that's the case that he is a handkerchief, I'm going to do a Max Bygraves here as say that I wanna tell you a story.

I'll try to keep it short and not go into details, but my father has never been interested in football, ever! His father was, and was a Liverpool supporter - they lived around half way between both cities. My mother obviously wasn't interested in football, but her father was, and so was his father who had followed United since it was Newton Heath, they came from central Manchester/Salford. Now, as it happens, I wasn't actually brought up by my parents, who lived in that place half way between the two - I was brought up in Salford by my mothers parents. I only used to go there at weekends. However, whenever it was my birthday, or whenever it was Christmas, my father's father would always slyly give me a present that had some connection to Liverpool FC. Now, my mother and her father had several arguments over it, but yes, I have been made to wear a Liverpool FC branded piece of clothing in my time, because obviously, you don't want to upset your granddad when you go to see him, or rather you are told that you have to wear it. Same shit with things that my grandmother used to knit for me and give me as presents and made me as itchy as feck whenever I wore them. It's a terrible experience being pulled this way and that, but it's not always that difficult for people to find themselves in such a position.

That said however, I've only ever been to Anfield twice, in the away end, and I've been in the Stretford end over 100 times, and thankfully to Sultan, in the North Stand once.

:nervous:

None of these things were the reasons initially, I think Rafa was still in charge and todays game definitely hadn't been played, you're just supplementing now and being bizarrely forgetful . This is not the thread for this though, I just wasn't a bit surprised to see you all decked out in Liver Birds fighting for scouse justice, that's really all I wanted to say. Have fun.

It's strange that a referee made a mistake last week, got criticised and corrected it the week after? Have you heard of something called learning from your mistakes?

I appreciate you're trying to backtrack from the original position but it was a 'strange', to use your phrase, point to make if you are not a rapid Liverpool fan or confused Gooner.

Webb didn't get much criticism for it, to be fair. This argument is going round in circles now - it was a red card, end of.

Nice story. Most of my family support West Ham (long story). But I'll be fecked if I'm going to join a Millwall forum to defend the neanderthals :D

Really? I remember seeing Arsenal-mania a while back and being surprised at how small it was - mind you this was quite a few years ago.

I also wonder what the (moderately) sensible LFC forums (or MCFC ones) are, and what they think of the same topics we go over a million times.

Its fine to laugh at the idiots on RAWK or its City equivalent, but you do wonder what the sane fans are thinking.

What's the Arsenal equivalent of the Caf, then?

Would have to be Arsenal-Mania. I think the one you were referring to is Arsenal-land, which is a real proper serious uptight place for discussion and is thus much smaller than Mania and the Caf.

Check out Arsenal-land if you want to see some more serious opinions (not all this we are the bestust, etc).

Arseholeland is full of utterly humourless twats who write crap 2,000 word essays instead of doing their homework.

It's definitely drab, but it can make for a nice change of pace compared to places like here or Mania...
