Sadio Mane

I've seen all that, but there's nothing official there fella. This pre-season Sky were as bad as the tabloids. It's all just glorified paper talk. As I say Koeman himself said there had been no bids.

I think it was official, The Telegraph also reported the bid and managers lie all of the time. Believe what you want though.

Wouldn't say no at this point. Perfect sort of player to have a go for in January too. Not CL cup-tied, not so high profile that there'd be tonnes of pressure on him, and not such a big deal that he'd expect to be instantly played or be likely to clash at all with current players. Would be especially good if we're already in a strong position at that stage, adding legs and options just when we might be at risk of flagging.

Hypothetically, would people move Mata into the middle and play Mané coming in from the right, or keep Mata where he is and play Mané centrally? He seems more appropriate for a wide position than Mata on paper but at the moment they're both shining in their current spots.

Adding Mane to our upcoming collection of future stars, namely Depay, Martial, Pereira and Januzaj would be amazing.

Maybe LVG wasn't that stupid. Keep playing like that against the top teams (ran us ragged until ran out of steam) and we won't only be the only team after him. LVG has his targets and I'm guessing he'll be back for this one should another dip at Bale fail. Time will tell but this one isn't going away.

Hey remember when people were questioning LVG for wanting to sign him? Maybe, just maybe he knows what he's doing.

I was one of them. Well, not LVG. Just didn't really want him. :nervous:

In a way, tbf, he strikes me as a much better January signing than a summer signing. When you sign players like him in summer, the media basically gives them the chance to explode into life instantly, or spends the rest of the season pouncing on every opportunity to call them a flop. If you sign them in January, especially if the team is in a strong position, they only have to make a contribution here and there to be deemed a 'shrewd buy' etc.

On the other hand I think if the team was in a strong position, we would be less likely to pursue him, and not to mention there would be no chance Southampton sells. I definitely see us continuing this next summer unless another target becomes available. Mane strikes me as being 3rd choice behind Bale and Reus.

he is amazing

ok i've only watched 1 game of his

Dare I say it would be like signing Antonio Valencia in 2009? A transfer that proved very astute.

Was brilliant today, electric at times. Still a huge question mark over whether we would give him the freedom to play as he does for Southampton where he can move quite freely along the forward positions behind the striker.

PaddyPower voted him the ugliest player in the Prem so I guess, in a way, he is the black Wayne Rooney.

At least he doesnt fit Real Madrid's policy, ugly and they wont spend big money on black players.

There's no chance that he'll be sold for anything less than 40M pounds given the amount of interest there will be in the summer. Added to the fact that Sot'n don't need to sell, I wouldn't be surprised if the fee were closer to 45-50M pounds.

I remember people losing their shit when he was a reported target over Pedro, same people want him now.

Dont be stupid. He may have managed Barca, Ajax and Bayern Munich, but I have yet to see how impressive his post count is.

Was happy when we signed Martial because it was a sign of ambition from the club even if he didn't work out. Signing Mane in January would be another fantastic buy and he could play in the CL as well.

It will be way cheaper if we just pick up all the Southampton scouts. Where the hell do they go and find all these players? Mane, Tadic, Pelle

Yep you were wrong Brightonian lol and on a side note who cares what the media think? We need to send Scholes around to your house to toughen you up a bit buddy. Have you never watched Sunday supplement? Someone is rubbish then he scores a screamer or has a good performance and the whole narrative changes. Mane would be a fantastic addition to the squad as he could cover the full front line with the potential to be a starter. It would also let LVG tinker or rest Depay/Martial or move Mata/Rooney depending on the price it's a no brainer imo.

How much better would we look taking out Rooney for Mane. Our attack would be full of blistering pace. Depay, Martial and Mane coming at ya with Mata pulling the strings.

I was in two minds about Manè when we were linked with him at the start of the season but after watching him single handedly dismantle yesterday we should replace Rooney with him.

His value will sky rocket after this season, they wanted 30 million last season and I expect them to hold out for more if he continues this form.

Clearly, price tags don't bother us. We'll get him if the management wants him.

Caught my eye when I was in Austria watching Red Bull Salzburg. Glad to see he has made the step up.

power, pace, directness.....would be great on the right with Mata pulling the strings at 10 and Rooney making the half time cuppas

Mane was well known at Salzburg and the best player in the league, not special find really.

Pelle had a great season at Feyenoord before the move and Tadić at Twente. Given that Koeman was Feyenoord manager it is not a special find to recognized the talent of your player or the player in the same league you were the manager.
