See, like i said, TWO wonderkids....

Ronaldo's a convenient target for cheap point-scoring by those who deem themselves "better" supporters. I get the feeling people long for him to play badly so they can get some slating in and speculate on his departure Neil Custis style.

Ronaldo looked very good yesterday, his surging runs effectively turned the momentum our way, he also whipped in some dangerous crosses which must have disappointed the "Ronaldo can't cross to save his life" camp.

Was George Best right when he was speaking about Ronaldo?

"There have been a few players described as 'The new George Best' over the years, but this is the first time it has been a compliment to me.
There have been players who have similarities but this lad's got more than anyone else - especially as he is genuinely two-footed.
He can play on either wing, beat players with ease, put in dangerous crosses with his left or right peg.
Cristiano's first United game as a substitute in the season opener against Bolton was the most exciting debut performance I've ever seen.
I was watching (Manchester United in a pre-season friendly against Sporting) with a friend of mine and I said 'Someone's got to snap this kid up' - and guess who did?
The £12.4million fee might seem a high price, but I think it's a snip. You are talking about a lad who, if he stays injury-free, has 15 years ahead of him in the game."
well said by the man himself
Ronaldo is as talented as Rooney
both of them are wonderkids and are world class material

He said that in 2003.

Ronaldo hasn't lived up to all the promise he showed in the Euros in 2004. In some ways he's even gone a little backwards.

i don't know if you are watching the same matches as me but Ronaldo has improved leaps and bounds, he is less selfish and his overall awareness has improved. In short, he has improved all aspects of his game

Improved since a year ago, yes.

Improved since a year and a half ago? Maybe.

Rooney is still our most consistent performer.

He's only twenty and gone through the most trying time of his life. The potentials there, He may not fully realise it until he's 25. Who was Ronaldinho or Zindane at that age?

I hope he does.

he'll get there give the kid time... How would you be losing yuor dad then being branded a rapist???? That shit doesn't go away!

He was exactly what we needed last night, simple attack minded football! It actually was the first time in a while i saw him with confidence.

Agreed about last night, although to be fair Pompey were run ragged all ready.

If he plays like that for the next couple of weeks, I'll be ready to sing his praises again.

He can just be such a frustrating player. We're spoiled now in having Rooney and expecting every 20 year old to be like that.

And by the way I cannot believe someone could say Ronaldo is just a mere footballer.I wonder if such people watched him play against Chelski.Ronaldo has lived up to his expectations. The rest is about growth and maturity remember he's going to be around hopefully till 2011.
Am afraid some people will have to swallow thier words!

Love it, just love it. United are blessed with two amazing young talents, and the supporters fight over who is better or is one of them really that good. You lot can't just enjoy life, ever, hey?

Some people seem to have missed the point a bit.

It's not that Ronaldo's not superb - he is. It's fantastic watching him ghost past two or three defenders at a time. He's also pretty brave, got a lot of kicks in his first couple of seasons, rolled with the punches and got on with it. Though he does let himself down by cheating a lot.

I was merely pointing out that if you like watching him more than Rooney, you're gay. I'm surprised there's been any discussion of this obvious fact.

its debatable.watching ronaldo is entertaining and at times watching rooney is not.you can;t go wrong with his footwork and dribbles which are fantastic to watch

To be fair Plech he is is easier on the eyes than Wayne...

He´s a brave boy. Good to see him get up and on with his play after that tackle...

Different people have different tastes.

Some like rooney because they prefer players who work harder and have that english hardworking mentality.

Others prefer players with flair like ronaldo.

As for me, I'd like to be entertained, so when both these wonderkids are on top form, I'd take ronaldo over rooney.

I'd be interested to know how you measure flair.

i'd measure it as a 25 yard volley, a back healed through ball that puts someone through on goal, kicks ups flicking it over the defenders head and creating a chance out of nothing or ghosting past three or four players not only using incredible power but really kick feet and unbeliveable skill.

Any one who say Rooney is lacking in flair is pissed, he may be English (which some obviously don't like) but he is alot more complete than Ronaldo, both are unbelieveabley good and will go on to be world class players but Rooney has the edge

I long for him to play well because when he is on form he is a great site and has unbelievable talent and the potential to be one of the top players in the world, we have two of the best young players in the world, if not the two best and what people are saying is Rooney has a slight edge which at this moment in time he has.

You don't get much more naturally talented than Rooney

Ronaldo has talent, but you can tell a lot of his tricks have come from practice

To be able to smash in a swerving volley from 25 yards, or do a perfect body-swerve past your man and chip the keeper from the edge of the area, like Rooney has for us, is just raw natural talent

As for flair, they've both got it in abundance

And Rooney also has the advantage that if he's you're favourite player, it doesn't mean you're gay

I think Rooney's better atm as well, I like the way he marries good old-fashioned English grit and flair, thus making him the complete player. He's got astounding consistency and maturity for a 20-year-old whilst Ronaldo's game is more representative of players their age, what with the selfishness and inconsistency at times.

Still Ronaldo could use more support from Utd fans, I'd rather take out my suspicion and bias against gifted foreigners by bashing, say Arsenal ;)

Put it this way; a team of 11 Wayne Rooneys would have been one hell of a team. A team of 11 Cristiano Ronaldos would not.

thats a good way of putting it.

however i suspect that the rooneys could easily have 3-4 sent off when you combine their temperament with the non-stop diving 11 ronaldos would bring.

7 rooneys would still beat 11 ronaldos though

That's it exactly. Everyone's different.

Some people prefer things like Ronaldo over Rooney, shandy over beer, ballet over boxing, and men over women.

It takes all sorts. No-one's judging you.

Nah not really. Maybe it's a footbaling culture thing. Some like to see a crunching tackle as much as some brilliant tricks, but i don't. As well as being a United fan, i'm a neutral as well and like to be entertained, and for that purpose, when Ronaldo gets the ball it excites me more than Rooney, who may well be a 'better' player.

That culturing thing is bollocks. I've not met one person no matter where they come from that doesn't get more excited by Rooney. And that includes West Africans.

It's right. . . you're gay

A few of the misconceptions showcased in this thread:

That Ronaldo has "flair" whereas Rooney is "a hardworking English type"

That people who can see Rooney's better (or more succinctly, "straight people") hate Ronaldo and want him to fail

That people who prefer Ronaldo aren't, by definition, benders

Will try to point out more as and when they arise

The non English I've met love his fighting spirit as well as his skill. He's got the fecking lot hasn't he. The kid's an animal. A real man's man. Seen a lot of Bestie lately and he had those qualities. Not just flair and skill, but he could tackle and take a few challenges. Wasn't scared to get hurt. Quality all around.
