Ah, the improved deal is on the way then.

Some are scared that Smalling "magnificent in the second part of season" and the new Duncan Edwards will both end up warming the bench next season just as when United actually had two world class CBs in the team
Let's assume we persist with Smalling and Jones. Next season when we don't have De Gea to cover their arses, people will see that they aren't exactly special. Let alone being better than Ramos, as some are suggesting

For real?

José Ángel Sánchez tried to rebuild bridges within the club, asking for the hostile environment to be minimised and that the player's entourage put an end to the rumours. The disagreements will no longer be broadcast. Both parties agreed to continue talks in a calmer manner.

All that's been said is that talk resume in a calmer manner, not that things have been resolved.

I think the club is playing this pretty well, actually. We're not in a strong negotiation position with De Gea's contract running down so we can't really demand a lot of money for him - we're not going to get that. So I think it's well played to say, you can have him, but only if we get one of your best players. Under normal circumstances Real would never sell Ramos to us but they're desperate enough to get DDG right now. I think it's pretty clever from the club but if we pay 45 million for a 29-year-old who's not Ronaldo/Messi then it doesn't look very clever anymore.

Pretty much how i see it too.

That is the sound of inevitability.

The thing is, the article states that Ramos and Madrid met yesterday and tension "fell".

However, this is also the same meeting I presume where all the other media outlets reported that Ramos told Madrid that he wants to leave.

Marca are known propagandists for Madrid. So wouldn't at all be surprising if they massaged the truth somewhat.

Surely we just wouldn't bid 32m for him without assurances? Woodwood has learned after the Fabregas shite right?

Is there any solid evidence that we've even made a bid? as in, any reliable sources reporting it?

Why are people taking Marca's word as gospel? Besides, they haven't even said he's staying, just that the mood was lightened slightly.

Dunno, but when you get one source going against the grain, then you have to think they have some sort of inside knowledge I suppose.

I cant honestly tell what will happen next season. For all we know your scenario can happen. Having said that there's a realistic chance of Smalling and Jones stepping up and be counted. My point goes beyond that guess. What I am saying is lets keep Smalling and Jones however let us add some quality competition. If they do well, they will surely defend their place. Fletcher was able to do so against 5 internationals most costing us a fortune (Hargreaves, Scholes, Carrick, Ando and Giggs). With so much competition for the top 4 spots we simply cant afford taking risks.

Fabregas must have given us the go ahead too. Stayed mum during the entire month as well and came out with the "it's my home, would never think of leaving" shite after the window closed.

I don't think we've bid anything. We are being used as a name again to get a better deal. The whole point of the fallout is Ramos isn't happy with the new contract offer.

We have been quick to squash rumours in the past mate, there is definitely something in this from our part IMO.

We should stay well away from such cnuts

Just sign Otamendi, Scheniderlin etc and be over with it
