Shinji Kagawa

Get the feeling people are expecting too much of him. We need to give him time. I think he'll work much better with Hernandez or Welbeck.

I remember Silva looked pretty average when he first arrived in the league.

they don't come at you much harder and faster than the "desperate dippers" at theirs. He'll find his feet soon enough. No question. The boy's got talent and he'll be an influence.

The problem with the midfield yesterday I thought was that Giggs was often too far forward. They was times when he'd gone past Kawaga, almost getting in the way of where Kagawa operates. They also had a really slow tempo for the majority of the game. They were times when we speeded it up but on the whole, far too slow.

I think that's where Cleverley excels, he's always got an urgency to his football and I'm surprised he didn't start yesterday.

I'd have to watch the game again to fully look at the problems as watching the game live I'm struggling to breath half the time let alone analyse football!

Giggs tried to get forward and link up play, which in itself isn't such a bad idea. Trying to give Kagawa and RvP support from midfield is vital if we're to play through the middle more.

The problem was that while he got up the pitch, he certainly didn't get down as fast. We were overrun and outnumbered in CM, as Carrick worked his arse off to cover for the marauding Giggs.

Couple that with his inexcusable sloppiness and wastefulness in posession, and you've got yourself a shambles of a performance. Obviously improved when moved a bit further wide in the second half.

So much for experience.

Intentions are great but he left large spaces behind him and we didn't have a kick for long periods. I'm have much rather him sat until we got a foothold in the game and then we can look to link midfield to attack. To do that though we need to get the ball in midfield first!

They just didn't seem a good balance at all yesterday with the midfield 3 for me. A lot of that was our own undoing I feel.

He did improve when he moved out to the left, granted.

And this is part of the reason why Giggs simply don't function well in a 2-man midfield anymore.

He doesn't have the legs to play there, because he isn't diciplined enough to simply play as a holding midfielder, and if he did, it would be pointless as Scholes does that even better.

Really think he needs to up his game, love his defensive work as it's helping out the team but he seems so 'lazy' in his attacking game. Just saunters about and is happy to make the pass and not make the bursting run to give an option from that.

Not impressed so far.

You can't take a tricky one touch pass type player and dump him in the hole with no one to play with.

He needs the ball and good movement around him in order to get the best out of him. Unfortunately Carrick Scholes and Giggs are too static

Everyone is just standing around. Kagawa is the man that can make united play the way we want to but he needs like minded players around him. He needs Cleverley and Rooney on the pitch

Why do we wait until the edge of the box when he's double marked after fannying around our wide until we pass it to him? Useless.

He goes in and out of the game at times but the bolded part is completely wrong from what I've seen. He's always making runs, doesn't stand still for a second.

Still waiting for a midfield of Anderson-Carrick-Clev with him in front of them. With Rooney/Nani and RVP in front of them. He would flourish in such a team.

No wonder he doesnt do well with that midfield behind him.

Not helping the midfield or the attack in any way. He looks a talented player but he hasn't really earned an automatic start.

Yep. We have no clue how to get him involved.

Doesn't help that there is basically 2 miles of space between Kagawa and our other midfielders. The only way to get the best from him is press high up and give him support.

Yeah most likely to get subbed off for me. We can't keep blaming the way we play, it's up to him to adapt when we play like shit and try to find a way to contribute/change things. Otherwise all he'll be is a luxury player. Still early days though.

He looked so bright and full of movement when he first started playing for us. It's like we've beaten it out of him.

Get off his back. There's no movement when he has the ball. Doesn't matter if he drops deeper to get involved. He's a good player but he cannot solve everything by himself, can he?

Much better second half when the midfield started playing and got him the ball.

I said it before, we should try him on the left and give him the freedom to drift in-field like Silva does for City. His influence on the side is evident when we give him the ball and let him link up our attacks.

He had a great second half, we lost potency when he went off.

Bringing on Welbeck was almost as baffling as starting Giggs. feck it all.

That is where he plays for Japan. No harm trying it out.

If we let him off the leash as much as Silva we'd see Evra get even more exposed. At United a winger is expected to track back and help his fullback.

I guess he was tired. He hasn't lasted the full 90 too often.

Great player, we need to play through the middle more. Probably best for him to play out wide so he actually gets on the ball.

This! Why was he subbed off? Injured or anything or? I don't agree with that substitution at all, not with the way we've been playing before that in the second half, that sub slows down our play.

Is the left the best place to play him now? It allows Rooney and Van Persie to play together he did very well and with Nani on the right it allows our 4 most technically gifted attackers in the same side. Nani is also much better on the right than he is on the left and a top form Nani down the right is better than valencia IMO.

Got to say with both Rooney and RVP now fit I think it is the best way to go

I think he got subbed off because he was clearly getting tired. Getting pushed off the ball a bit too easy.

However, he is so dangerous in and around the box. Give him a sliver of space and he will make something happen most of the time. A shame we don't have a strong enough midfield to support him more often. He was absolutely misused in the first half with the way Carrick and Scholes were just standing around.

At least we know him floating from the left inwards, actually works quite well. At least against a team that is sitting back.

Now we can try to play Rooney, RVP and Kagawa together for the next home game. I don't know if we'd try it for newcastle away..

I expect that to happen a lot. The way Carrick and Scholes play is vastly different to the way Kagawa plays. If you want to have the game played around Carrick/Scholes don't play Kagawa, and vice versa.
