Shinji Kagawa

It's difficult for a coach to keep one of his best players happy while asking him to play in position he doesn't fancy. Rooney as a pure CM (instead of Cleverley for instance) could work but I think it's a risk Moyes won't wanna take. He'd be limiting Rooney's influence too, yesterday, he was playing in a position and way that suits the club so much. He could get back and help out defensively and still have enough freedom to create chances and have goalscoring opportunities.

Yeah I agree, I was more thinking towards the end of the game where he seemed to be to me noticeably deeper than where he was for most the rest of the game, for most of it I'd say he was effectively in the hole, but that last half hour he really dropped to the point where you think if that was a long term tactic than why not just drop clev/giggs and put Kagawa in there, as there's not really much benefit to having one of clev/giggs there if rooney is there too. I thought Rooney's influence as an attacker was limited when he ended as deep as he was.

As you said it would be contingent on him accepting playing there so unlikely to happen but then you never know if it's because the team needs him to do it short term till carricks back he might accept that, part of the problem last season may have been that he was being asked to play there seemingly because we didn't think he was sharp enough/fit enough to play up top.

Either way though I think if clev plays as he did then we won't need Rooney dropping like that, he's better off keeping in the hole than playing too close to the striker, but if the midfielders show more willingness to play the ball foward and execute it well as Clev did, and stay disciplined positionally then Rooney won't need to drop so deep except for where we need to go more defensive.

Welbeck taking his chances, that's all IMO. Altough I would expect few mins for him in second half.

Was it ever confirmed what was wrong with him?

He got his stomach pumped? Obviously he wouldn't be completely fit right after, and then with Welbeck taking his chance last week he obviously wasn't going to start. He'll start one of the next 2 games, with Hernandez starting the other.

He was in a good period before that little incident. Surely he's being eased back into things, seeing as we can't afford more injuries now.

I doubt that Moyes suddenly decided that Kagawa wasn't good enough. It wouldn't make any sense at this stage, right after a couple of good performances.

Yet another game on the bench. Worrying to say the least. We don't want to let this talent go. Karma will surely come back and bite us in the ass if we do.

He'll start the next game I think. Today was purely based on form all around pretty much.

He hasn't done anything of note to merit a place recently (in the games he played before overeating). But fanboyism is fanboyism.

Probably starts by default against Norwich if Young picked up a niggle as people have suggested.

A game we won without him on the pitch!

Has to start against Norwich really considering Nani and Valencia are both out and Januzaj might be rested.

No way we could have had him. Rafael was not planned and when we moved Rooney deep we needed a pure striker, then to protect lead Carrick was planned (though not needed) I think. No way Kagawa will have been part of Subs.

Can't see him sticking around this Summer unfortunately.

I'm at the point where I couldn't really give a feck if he left now, decent player though he is.

And let's face it, Kagawa couldn't score a goal as good as Rooney's today in his wildest dreams.

Yeah. Hopefully he can put in a good performance though.

When RVP got injured I thought this was his chance to prove the hype, he could get two months of continuous play in his favorite 10 position behind Rooney. But obviously his games on the pitch and whatever he is doing in training mean that he is probably now 4th or 5th choice for Moyes.

I wanted him to join us for while before we were even linked with him.

But let's be honest, his favourite position is where Rooney is right now - and between the two, there is only one winner.

What? He got ill for some unknown reason and other players like Welbeck and even Young have had a couple of good moments in his absence and maintained their places in the side. There's no "4th or 5th choice" about it, it's just the current circumstances. Moyes rates him highly and has made that pretty clear.

Myabe use him in the transfer for Reus. If we're not going to play him it is useless to keep him. I really would like seeing him make the grade at United.

It's up to him to prove himself. Moyes has been very fair with everyone so if he doesn't take his chances it's his fault.

I agree. He can't really complain at a lack of opportunities. When he gets a chance he needs to take it.

You don't miss so many games for over eating. This was his chance, a one and only chance actually, and he isn't playing.

You rustle up his dinner? You dont get your stomach pumped due to over-eating.

This forum is fecking crackers today.

That is what Moyes said so I'd rather go with that than unknown reasons

He isn't playing because Welbeck and Young are scoring goals. This is not a big deal.

He isn't playing because Adnan Welbeck and Young are offering more to our game than he does not just goals, that makes him 3rd choice even though his favorite 10 position is and has been available, and wont be available once RVP returns, that is a big deal.

Well I completely disagree with you on the first point as far as the left side goes, Adnan aside. His favourite position has been covered by Rooney, who is playing better, because Welbeck is scoring goals. I'll say it again, this is no big deal. It's simply sense and pragmatism from Moyes. If Welbeck is scoring you don't dare take him out. He will play on Saturday. There is no absolute list of preference in the eyes of Moyes at the moment, other than Rooney. The others are selected on what makes sense at the time.

I love Kagawa and I really want him to do well for us - because if he does, we'll benefit, simply because he has the abilities we lack like penetration through the middle - but I have to admit he's been underwhelming. I don't think he has much to offer from the wing and I have to say that despite some good moments, he hasn't been that brilliant playing behind the striker, either. If we're going to play with something similar to a midfield three like we've tried at times, I've love to see him getting some chances there. But Rooney is untouchable and Welbeck won't be moved now that he's scored some goals. Unfortunate, but I don't think anyone can complain.

He was okish

Its frustrating, gets knocked off the ball quite easily and doesnt seem to find the right final ball often enough.

But he did pick the ball up a lot in promising areas.

Faint praise, he needs to be doing a lot more. Welbeck and Januzaj are a considerable distance ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment IMO, even Young and Valencia are impacting games, something which he completely failed to do today.

He has his work cut out to form a decent career here, I hope he does.

nothing much special from kagawa, again unfortunately..

he is a good player no doubt, but apart from some spinning and turn, he has failed to live up again, even when he is playing as the number 10 early in the game. he has not played much recently , but chances are not going to come often when you got the like of rooney and a few more players playing in that position as well.
