Southampton vs. Manchester United

De Gea should be playing. Sick of this goalkeeper rotation. No other top team would do it.

Surprised to see Ferdinand is fit to play. SAF kept that nice and quite. Good to see we have three CB fit now at least :)

Surprised at DDG being left out. I'm not really a fan of rotating the keepers, but I'd prefer rotating them than thinking that DDG is injured :S

It's a fecking horrendous decision, and will almost certainly cost us points, just as it did last season.

I seem to remember Lindergaard having a great game at St Marys in the cup last season

What is going on with Nani though?!

Post this again as many seem to have missed it, De Gea on the bench:

United Subs: De Gea, Evans, Hernandez, Nani, Giggs, Scholes & Powell.

Yeah that's the only real surprise for me. Nani seems to have done something to upset sir alex and there was probably some truth in the rumors of nani leaving because he would definitely be starting if this wasn't the case.

Why would he "definitely be starting"?

He was poor towards the end of last season (apart from the Everton game) and was abysmally poor against Everton in the only game he's played this season. Maybe he's been that bad in training too? Maybe he hasn't done enough to win his place back in the team? Maybe SAF is just looking to give him a kick up the arse and make the point that absolutely nothing is guaranteed?

As long as we win the game and Nani eventually comes back in in good form then it really doesn't matter.

Well Ash looks like you get your wish, let's hope it is enough, i think we are just handing Saints a chance to get at our midfield 2, with that line up.

If those 2 don't dominate their opposite numbers we will not get the ball to Valencia. Welbeck on the left is not going to provide much in terms of quality delivery, so all our eggs are in the Valencia wingplay basket yet again, unless Kagawa has a stormer.

Just don't like this 2 in the middle away from home. TC can't get forward as much now without leaving Carrick on his own. If he is going to have to stay deep then Anderson would have been a far more powerful alternative.

We will just have to wait and see. :)

If a central 3 of carrick clev and kagawa if we line us like that, can't dominate Southamptons midfield than we have big issues in general. We shouldn't need to play 3 midfielders and an attacking mid. Anyway given we've dominated possession against everton and fulham without carrick in the middle I don't anticipate this will be an issue.

Most other teams dont have a great backup who should be getting games too.

Fergie has been in football long enough to know how dropping/rotating affects players. If someone deserves game time, they get it.

Carrick started last season on the bench and Fergie said he would come into the team more in the second half.. Injuries rushed that, but it shows how Fergie wants to use his squad. If Nani is being benched now, its for a reason.

Good enough side. Hope it isnt too unbalanced.

Odd to see DDG not play after two very good games but it's fantastic to see Carrick in midfield.

Call Plech!

Wanting our best (or second best, however you feel) winger to play on the wings instead of a striker means I love him too much. I see.

When all available evidence indicates that he's off form, yes it does.

*Hides from Plech*

Why the complaining ? We are up against a team where the majority of their players are 6 ft 1 to 6 ft 3 - if there is a game where Lindegaard should play, it is this one.

Not the biggest problem in the world but rotating Goal Keepers cost us a stable back four early last season, have we not learnt anything?

Ando injured already? Would be odd if he's left out completely if he'a not injured. He's not gonna get called up for brazil so would have expected him to get some game time if he'a fit.

Dont like all the changes, we need consistency right now. Hope there is a reason for all that and I really wonder whats going on with Nani

I'm guessing Nani isn't 100% fit, alternatively welbeck is training very well and SAF thinks he deserves a start? Who knows, the outrage in here is amusing though

Going to be a decent game, clev, Carrick and Kagawa in the middle

But it's Southampton. Not Chelsea. What better time to give other players a game?

It's away from home. how about waiting till we are at OT to give others a game?

There has been enough uncertainty in defence for my liking, without fecking about changing the keeper for an away game. We need to get as settled a side as possible, get a bit of form and get a bit of understanding going within a favored system, rather than keep swapping and changing about game to game.

It was fecking about like this that cost us valuable points last season.

nani was shambolic against everton, and we dont see his preformance and attitude in training.
welbeck always puts in a good shift out wide

Lots of our players were shambolic against Everton. Valencia and Welbeck were rubbish too but they're playing today.

rio and vidic available and then de gea drops to the bench. when he is going to play behind this combo?. lindegaard is a good goalkeeper but i am not a fan of this rotation system.

DDG was trusted with Stoke away last season and passed that test. If we're going to drop him every time we come up against a big team then he's never going to learn and develop his game.

Ok sorry, I'm sure you know all the ins and outs of whats been going on in training this week

What could possibly have gone on in training to justify benching your keeper right after he makes a mistake in a game? What good could come of it? What could happen in training to make Welbeck a better left winger than nani?

The persistance with playing Welbeck on the wing is rather strange. He's not exactly great there. But well let's wait and see.

After the vidic, De Gea mistake last week the last thing a young keeper needs is to be dropped!

Absolutely stupid if DDG has been dropped for that mistake. Our best player in the first 2 games and he gets dropped? Absolutely ridiculous. This rotation didn't help him last year and I doubt it will now.

And Welbeck over Nani on the wing?

The team is strong enough to get a win at Southampton away DDG or no DDG. It's not Stamford Bridge.

Last game we conceded a freak own goal that otherwise would have been a comfortable 3-1 finish where the only goal conceeded came from us being asleep in the first 5 minutes. It's not like our defence is falling apart. Lindegaard can have a good game here and we'll see DDG back soon enough I reckon.

De Gea hasn't been our undisputed No. 1 for ages, until Lindegaard got injured he was starting virtually every game. No surprise to see him starting today.
