Stoke City Vs. Manchester United, Premier League, 24/9/2011

So from what Fergie has said we could be looking at:

De Gea
Jones Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Anderson
Nani --- Rooney --- Young
Hernandez

If we play Carrick then we don't need Berba height as much at set plays. We have 4 six footers in the lineup above plus Rooney is half decent at defending corners. Lets tire them out with our football.

I wouldn't play Berba purely for his height anyway.

However that's why I would favour carrick over Fletcher. Even though they're a similar height (I think), Carrick is better in the air.

This.

Going to be difficult this one. Stoke have improved this season and look strong enough to really trouble the big clubs. Just look at their results against Liverpool and Chelsea, even the Carling Cup result against Tottenham.

But, Hernandez fit to play. Get in!

I'll go along with this

2-0 United

We have a knack of winning there. I think we'll do it again.

Won't be easy but our quality should see us win the match. The key will be on how we defend set pieces from them.

I'm only speculating but do you think theres any chance we'll line up in defence with the following to combat Stokes height and threat from set pieces, and to protect De Gea in what will be quite a big test for him.

---------------DDG------------

Smalling---Rio---Jones---Evans

The rest of the team hopefully:

Nani---Fletcher---Anderson---Young

-------------Rooney----------------

-------Hernandez/Welbeck----------

Smalling is a doubt for the game. Otherwise I'd have had him in my team too. After Vidic he's our best defender when it comes to dealing with high balls.

I was debating this at first, but Evra was rested as well so I think he'll play. Evra's played rather well so far to be honest, he had an average season last time so it's nice to see. I'd still play him.

A lot depends on who's back from injury.

Jones - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra

Is the most likely back four at the moment, if Smalling and Vidic haven't recovered - but if they have, I reckon they'll both start in favour of Jones and Evans.

Other question marks are Fletcher or Carrick, and Hernández, Welbeck, or Berbatov. It's good to have so many options, especially against a team like Stoke who are one of the few sides outside the top four where you would alter your style slightly to face them.

I think we'll get a narrow win in a similar vein to the West Brom game.

3 months out i see fergie seem to think, damm. :(

He said nothing like that. He said Robson was once out for 3 months with a calf injury, because they can be troublesome. He then said he hopes Vidic won't be as bad.

As long as we keep the ball on the ground, we should beat them quite comfortably.

Cue ESPN tributing an hour of pre-match analysis to De Gea's weaknesses only for them to drop it convienantly once he has a good game.

Thinking a score draw 2-2 or we might just nick it 3-2.

Rooney,Hernandez,Huth,Shawcross

Carrick apparently has a groin strain

a snippet just found, DDG has the best shots/saved ratio in the PL according to one source. Not definitive but maybe indicative.

I hardly hate anything, but god I hate twitter. What the feck is that supposed to mean? Is that where we are now as a society? Decoding ciphers from tweets? Please someone crush twiiter.

Jones out-hamstring.

Leaves us with Rio(if 100%) and Evans.God help us if one of those gets injured

If you're referring to the Mirror news, they meant Kenwyne Jones and not Phil.

Whoever will play, my impression is this will be a very difficult game for us....

Of course that's what I meant;)

I never even considered that big lout....completely forgot.Jones is such a rare name:lol:

Well, evidently, Rooney is out because he is busy watching a Beyonce DVD

The confusion is more because the squad travelled to Stoke yesterday!

I think an early goal is vital today. Let Stoke get into a rhythm and they'll e tough to break down. An early goal to force them to change their game plan should hopefully create space for us to exploit further. I'm pretty sure we'll concede at least once so I think we'll go into the game with a high tempo from the start.

Yeah, he is now behind Carrick and Fletcher in the pecking order.

Given the start he had to the season and the way SAF reacted to his injury I doubt that. He will certainly be given another opportunity to cement his first 11 status.

When is he due back?

De Gea will be in for some aerial bombardment. But see us comfortably winning this 0-4
