Swansea City vs. Manchester United

What's there record at home thus far in the league?

I reckon this will be quite tough, their fans will be up for it. The club will probably hand out free scarves etc.

They're Wesh for feck's sake. You don't get anything for free in Wales :smirk:

The future is mentally ill.

Have Cleverley and Carrick played together this year? On paper they look like a pretty good combo.

This is a joke, right?

Cleverley's first game in central midfield for United, in Chicago [I was there :D], but they looked fairly poor. It was as much the attackers fault as anyone, Diouf and Obertan didn't make themselves available and neither did Berbatov till about 30 minutes in, so they could only go backward, I felt bad for the guy.

But Cleverley never gave up or let his head drop and made some good passes towards the end of the half, I was impressed with his resolve if nothing else. But Carrick didn't help much, didn't make much effort to make himself available either, a bit too happy to play it backward.

Giggs looked amazing in that game in central midfield in the 2nd half, just walking past players with his amazing ball control.

Was thinking about this game this morning.

I've always maintained that we couldn't have played Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Bolton at a better time (random fact, Bolton have conceded more goals so far this season than any other top flight team in the last 40 years ) and our only real tests have been against Liverpool and City. Neither of which we passed with flying colours (to put it mildly)

Sure it's "only" Swansea but I think this is the next most difficult fixture we've faced this season. A comfortable win will make me feel a lot more confident about our prospects this season. Anything else, well, let;s just say my glass will definitely be half-empty...

I won't be surprised if we drop points there. Draw would be a good result in different circumstances but given the fact that we are already 5 points behind City and they are at home for their next game if I remember correctly, I think it's absolutely essential that we win there.

If we are on our game defensively, like we have been of late, I cannot see the swans having enough quality up top to score against us, They have some good playes and play good football, but no real claas in my opinion. That leaves us to score and we have not been setting the heather alight with our attacking play of late. Us to scrape another 1 nil win. Vida to bullet a header from a set piece.

Couldn't put it any better.

However, despite playing those teams at decent times, the way we attacked was still magnificent and we'd have scored multiple goals against any opposition I reckon. Our defence has been somewhat lacklustre all season (most likely due to no Vidic, we've only conceded once while he's been on the field and that was a huge DDG error), but probably since the Stoke game our attack has just become so slow, predictable and almost boring. I'm not sure how we can switch this up with the current team. But I'd probably be looking to the likes of Giggs, Cleverley, Nani, Carrick and Berbatov to perform. Nani is a bit out of sorts despite playing, Giggs and Cleverley have had injuries along with Carrick and Fergie's preference to play him in the Champions League. Berbatov has just fallen off the radar but if we want some imagination in our game I fancy these five to be the most likely to provide it. Along with Rooney and maybe Young too.

Bottom line is, a win here is obviously a must regardless of how we get it. But if we don't win somewhat comfortably and perform well, I'll have the same view as you. Glass will be half empty.

would love to go out there and find a performance and smash em 3 nil. Would bring a lot of confidence to the side because its going to be tough considering their home form.

I just want a performance from the lads where we can for the first time in weeks walk away and say we earned the 3 points and 100% deserved it. I dont think we can honestly say that in the league for a good few weeks now.

This might actually work...

They are surprisingly a very good team this season so far. And they're at home. We definitely cant play 3 up front for this one.

A 1-0 win for us will be a very decent result in my opinion.

Could you try mine out and let me know how it goes, similarly on football manager? It might not work as I doubt the programmers will have come across it before as its so unusual. I can't really see any weaknesses though.

have our expectation gone low and that we have to be happy with 1-0 win now? I think we can play better and score more goals.

Given that we have been pretty shitty over the last month and Swansea's form this season, especially at home, for a newly promoted side, all we need right now is wins. No matter how they come or how much we score. At least that is the case until we get our full strength team back. Then winning 1-0 is no longer the question. Then we can worry about why we don't score more goals.

Looking at these early posts, and I've got one thing to say...

United have never beaten Swansea away from home..... (mind you they've never beaten us at OT either).

It's always nice to break that sort of sequence.

cut it out lads, it wasn't a completely over the top comment. Its fair to think that the Champions should be able to overcome Swansea by more than 1 goal.

However, I dont agree with his opinion. If history has taught us anything, we should never underestimate our opponents. These are the kind of games we come unstuck in (i also have a nasty feeling about QPR away). I'd be happy with 1-0 and 3 points in the bag. We need to remain in contention at this time of year

Really looking forward to this, and as others have touched on - we'll see if we have moved from our away day debacle's of last season 'cos Swansea will come at us.

Euro away

Me, the wife and a few friends saw Scott Sinclair and Danny Graham in Nandos on Wednesday. One of my friend's approached Sinclair and asked him for his autograph for her nephew who is a Swansea supporter and then asked Graham "Who are you then? You famous as well?"

I cringed.

feck sake that Sunderland game seems like such a long time ago.
