Swansea City vs. Manchester United

Still wanting to see:

de Gea
Jones Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Nani Rooney Young
Berbatov
--
Lindegaard; Evans; Fletcher, Giggs, Park, Valencia; Hernández

Other than Giggs not starting, I think that would be our most 'creative' side. I can see Fletcher starting this game though, or even us going 433 but I think a lot of people would see that as too negative even if it's Giggs behind Rooney. Most of the team should be fresh, although quite a few would be coming back from injury (Cleverley, Young, Giggs) so I'm not sure if they'd all be thrown in right away. It depends how long they've been training at full whack, which I'm sure we'll find out on Friday.

Assuming it might be too early for Rafael, but I could see him starting with Jones on the bench, or Fábio getting in the side. Expecting Welbeck and Anderson to be left out more as a precaution than anything else then return for the Champions League if fit enough.

Giggs and Cleverley, let's see them in central midfield!

Giggs has been great this year, tore apart Leeds and had two vital assists in our draw against Basel, and our only goal against Benfica. 4 starts and 4 assists, and of course 5 sub appearances. But he's only gone 90 minutes twice, so his minutes per assist is probably best on the team.

I hope the boys from the media and press are doing finally their job tomorrow and they ask Fergie about the injuries of Giggs, Anderson, Young, Welbeck, Cleverley and Smalling!!!

Owen and Macheda are injured.
Rafael and Gibson aren't in the squad against Swansea after 90 minutes today.

Would like to see Welbeck in there instead of Berba, otherwise that would be my favourite team.

Cleverley out until Christmas.

I think Carrick will finally start a League game - but will it be Fletcher or Giggs with him?

And yeah Red Pavan, but I think Welbeck got injured on international duty. I believe it was only minor and more precautionary, but I can see it being enough to keep him out of this. He'll probably play in the Champions League game if he doesn't make this.

MATCHDAY SQUAD:

de Gea, Lindegaard
Evra, Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Vidic, Fabio, Rafael
Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Valencia
Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Diouf

Many of our players got a 2 week rest during the international, that's very unusual. Rooney, Rio, Evra, Vidic, Berbatov, Park, Carrick, Anderson? and Young who had time to be fit again after the injury.

Manchester United shirt warning for Swansea City game

Swansea City have warned fans they will be refused entry into the home end of their ground if they wear Manchester United shirts for Saturday's game.

The Premier League champions make their first visit to the Liberty Stadium, with the game a 20,520 sell-out.

The ban on United clothing was welcomed by the Swansea supporters' club.

The Swans, who have made a bright start to life in the top flight, are urging supporters to wear the club colours of black and white in the home end.

Swansea have told fans on their website: "Any supporters wearing Manchester United attire attempting to gain entry into the home sections will be refused entry, and will not be relocated to the away end due to Manchester United selling their full allocation."

Phil Sumbler, chairman of Swansea City supporters trust said the difference with seeing shirts from top flight clubs in the home section is that the Swans are now in the same division.

"I think it's been one of those generic observations that over the course of time it's not unusual to see Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea shirts at matches," he said.

"The difference is this season they are all the opposition.

"Swansea, like any city, has got a decent amount of Man Utd followers and you are not always going to get the chance to get to Old Trafford and they might see this as an opportunity.

"I'm sure anybody who is in the home end and wearing any Man Utd merchandise would be told by supporters before they are ejected."

Swansea City have enjoyed record sales of the club's shirt for their first season in the Premier League.

Its initial allocation of 6,000 shirts sold out on the first day alone when they went on sale in the summer with fans having to wait until September for the next batch to arrive.

And after 30 years in the lower leagues since their last top flight game, Mr Sumbler said people were "once again proud" of supporting the Swans.

A Swansea City spokesman said: "It is club and stadium policy that we do not encourage away shirts in the home stands for any game, not just Manchester United.

"We cannot currently satisfy the ticket demands for Swansea City fans, who are our priority.

"Away clubs receive an allocation of around 2,000 tickets for the away section. Any away fans in the home section deny Swansea City supporters the opportunity to watch the game at the Liberty Stadium."

I would use one of Pogba/ Morrison in midfield, we need fresh ideas in midfield.

its about time members had to sit a footballing inteligence test before being allowed onto the main forum. comments like this should lead to instant banishing to the newbies.

seriousley can people stop coming out with outlandish and down right fecking rediculous statements....im sure some do just to start a debate.

i realise this is a discussion forum but surley we can have sensible debate

Have Carrick and Anderson played a single game together in midfield this season?
Carrick and Anderson started the Community Shield game. We were 2-0 down at half time and Carrick was replaced by Cleverley, we won 3-2. However, we dominated the game just as much in the first half, the 2-0 scoreline was so unjustified.

Cleverley got injured after 7 minutes against Bolton. We were 0-1 up already. Carrick came on and played the remainder of the game with Anderson and we scored another 4 goals to win 0-5.

They both started the Champions League game against Basel, we started well and were 2-0 up. However, Anderson had a bad game IMO and was subbed off towards the end I think due to injury when we were 2-3 down. We got the 3-3 draw after that.

They both started the 0-2 away win against Oţelul Galaţi and played the whole 90 minutes. Although, we did need 2 penalties to win.

Since then, they've both had somewhat niggly injuries throughout the season, more so between the International breaks it seems. I'm not sure if this pairing is good or bad yet, we need them to play more together to find out. Is Swansea away a game to test it more?

I wouldn't mind seeing Carrick & Giggs as it has worked well in the past even against Chelsea's strong midfield. However, I can see Fletcher starting this game as well as the main ball winner.

Thinking this now. This is a game where we might need to keep the ball more when we win it off them. We've not been doing that as well this season, so I hope Berbatov's hold-up play will be effective. When Swansea tire, Hernández can come on to hopefully pack that lethal punch and burst of pace. While the creativity of Giggs could be useful, or the energy and drive of Anderson, Park, or Valencia will really put Swansea on the back foot in the last 20-30 minutes if all goes well.

Going to miss this game due to work now :( but hope it goes well for us.

I'd say Nani will be rested given the Portugal qualifiers, kept fresh for the Benfica match.

Carrick is also always kept for CL games.

Did Valencia and Park play internationals?

I'll go

De Gea
Jones - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Park/Valencia Fletcher - Anderson - Young
Rooney Hernandez

Right, going by Fergie's press conference, hopefully we'll see this:

-----------------De Gea----------------
Jones---Ferdinand------Vidic--------Evra
Nani------Carrick------Giggs-------Young
----------Rooney-----Chicharito---------

Evans might come in for Jones who might also be rested.

Has Evans ever played Right Back? I think it'd be Fábio or Valencia there if Jones is saved for Benfica. Evans will likely play against Benfica anyway due to Vidic's suspension.

I'd like to see Jones - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra for this and Newcastle. While Fábio & Evans come in for Benfica. I can see either Jones or Ferdinand having to basically play all three games though which could be problematic due to Jones having played internationals and Ferdinand's injury history. We'll see what Fergie decides to do.. Personally I'd like to see the load spread by subbing Jones off here, then subbing him on for Ferdinand against Benfica so they can play basically two games or thereabouts each, rather than one of them having to play all three. Starts to get a little silly but if we're in strong positions in each game I think it'd be the best option.

My team
Starting XI:

274204_Manchester_United.jpg

Bench: Lindegaard, Jones, Evans, Fletcher, Giggs, Nani, Hernandez

My predicition: 0-2 (Berbatov, Rooney)

De Gea
Fabio, Rio, Vida, Evra
