How are they going to get laws signed on this if both sides aren't even sitting down to discuss it?
Like how the GOP passed the tax bill after bipartisan debate and compromise?

They aren't, and it's not going to be because people got angry during a meeting. It's going to be because the GOP have no desire to allow anything resembling "common sense gun laws" to pass. As always. How are they going to get laws signed on this if both sides aren't even sitting down to discuss it?

The Independent said:A Trump White House official reportedly said coverage of the mass shooting at a Florida high school last week has given the administration “a reprieve” from having to deal with bad publicity.
“For everyone, it was a distraction or a reprieve,” the official told the Washington Post. “A lot of people here felt like it was a reprieve from seven or eight days of just getting pummeled.”
The official said there was a similar calm in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 dead and hundreds more injured.
“But as we all know, sadly, when the coverage dies down a little bit, we’ll be back through the chaos,” the official reportedly said.
This NRA chick is hot
Why do you think they hired her. The alternative was to have some obese, middle aged white guy with four chins go out there.
She wiped the floor with them. Kind of depressing really.

Rubio looked pretty bad here.

The NRA lobbying isn't wrong. They have the right to petition the government just like everybody else does. What's wrong is that Rubio and co !listen to them over their constituency
Look at what they do, not what they say. Applies to everything in American politics.
She wasn't asked a single difficult question. She answered the more direct questions with ease and made the questioners appear unprepared and amateur. The town hall was just a mess of emotion and will Be forgotten in a week.

The sheriff was as amateur as the kids. The point is that kids won't achieve anything here as the coverage will shift. Does anybody hear anything from Sandy Hook folks anymore?
Unfortunately you are spot on. Much of the main news media is already drifting away from the subject. CNN have been focused on this subject for a week but they are moving back to the Russia investigation and the daily commentary on Trump.
Like it or not the NRA playbook and GOP have managed to shift the narrative to mental health and not a single significant thing will be done about gun control.
My point is that politics here is tough and uncompromising and a bunch of emotional kids and teachers will achieve nothing against powerful, professional lobbying groups with senators and congressmen in their pockets. That's simply the reality. It may be cynical but it's true. What's sad is that these kids think they can make a difference. Politicians won't do shit for them because they are irrelevant to the day to day business of Washington which is focused on money and influence. Something these kids don't have.
The only thing that can save this country is a total political revolution and that ain't happening.
That's not sad in any way. It gives me a little hope for the next generation.
What would really be sad is if it got to the point that young, idealistic kids thought they could never make a difference. Now that, dear gooner, would truly be sad.

I doubt this will be forgotten soon since there is a massive march planned in DC in a week or two. That will springboard into a lot of other converging sentiment about Trump and the MeToo movement going into the November election cycle. The GOP are already in bad shape on the generic ballot to where they will likely lose the house and barely retain the Senate, so they are going to be walking a tightrope for the rest of this year.
We have seen so many movements come and go. They get their five minuets in the sun but news is all about now and the media move onto the next big thing. A few thousand anti-Trump MeToo marchers are about as relevant as Trump supporters at a rally when it comes to moving the needle.
I doubt this is a few thousand marchers - its more like a movement that will rival the Tea Party in terms of its seismic effect on which party will control the Congress going forward. Even Steve Bannon correctly understands that MeToo is the biggest threat to Trump and the GOP will have in the coming cycles.
Its on the radar but history suggests it will fizzle out. Occupy was significantly bigger and more high profile and ultimately it had little impact. The annual Earth march gets massive numbers of attendees but it is a one day event then its forgotten.
MeToo is a threat to Trump because he is a dirty rotten scoundrel and is vulnerable to their messages. I just can't see that movement staying relevant very long. It needs fuel and they are running out of celebrities to step forward.
