@Invictus I hate that snake
Orochimaru, because of well erm, you know. I loved the bit when he let his perversion get the better of him, and he was prying on Itachi, the usual be part of my body and whatever the sick fecker wanted, and he just cut his hand off. He reminds me of Hisoka, with the way he's strangely attached to Gon, but strangely I love Hisoka.

I was looking for some new anime to watch, i'll just work off @Invictus list.

Any good movies you guys can recommend too?

I thought the same regarding the comparison between Hisoka & Orochimaru.

Yep, both of them do give off some creepy, paedo vibes. :nervous:

Off the top of my head:

PS: Kinda hard to recommend movies without knowing what you've already seen.

Ah, crap. That was supposed to be at 5, ahead of Cowboy Bebop and Baccano! Love the anime, as well as the OVA (mostly Trust and Betrayal).
Suspected that something was seriously wrong! That blunder did make me remember Noein at #100, haven't thought of that one in nearly ten years, one of the first animes I saw, don't even remember if I thought it was good or not but probably not since I completely forgot about it's existence.

I'd recommended Wolf's Rain if you didn't forgot about that one too, a beautiful tearjerker.

These look great, thanks!

I haven't seen many anime movie's tbh except all the studio ghibili titles & akira. there are some random ones i've watched that happened to be on like channel 4 every now and then but that's about it, so any recommendations would be welcome.

Been meaning to watch Wolf's Rain for a while now. Started once - sometime in the mid 2000s, but the pacing and cohesion seemed a bit 'off' (for lack of a better term) - in that it was ponderous and abstract (not in a good way). Couldn't really get into it and dropped the thing at maybe 2 episodes in (when that mask dude made an appearance), but I'll give it another try since you rec. it. Plus, I was in my instant gratification mecha/ action anime phase back then (Gundam, Old Yamato, Fafner, Area 88), so maybe that's why I skipped it in a hurry.

Yeah, it takes a few episodes before it really starts off. Yoko Kanno's soundtrack is one of my favourites.

Paprika
Perfect Blue
Angel's Egg

Anything by Satoshi Kon or Mamoru Oshii (lots of these mentioned in the previous post - Paprika, Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue etc - and anything by Mamoru Hosoda - The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars in particular.

I'd rec. this too (essentially a movie version of Basilisk - based on the real life, but later fictionalized Kōg-Iga Ninja Clans in Mikawa Go-fudoki), except it might be too hack and slash.

Finally ended up watching Berserk. Wow. I expected it to be gorey, but didn't expect it to be so beautiful. Wonderful soundtrack.
You should definitely check out the manga if you have some time to spare. It's really, really long; and has been on an irregular schedule for the past decade (started way back in the '80s), but once you get past the initial chapters (which are kinda labored) to the Golden Age arc - it's one of the finest works of fiction across all mediums. Miura's masterpiece - great story, vivid details, deliciously brutal (moreso than the anime), and emotionally impactful.

PS: You might have to wait for closure as far as the manga and Guts are concerned. Still ongoing. :)

Amazing isn't it, loved the soundtrack as well.

You can hear that it's the same guy who scored Satoshi Kon's films.

Might just do that. I read that a sequel series is gonna air next month.

Such a unique score, haven't heard anything like it. Although I imagine if listening to it without seeing the show it wouldn't have the same effect.

Fecking Ninja Scrolls is badass.

Fist of the North Star has a similar feel to it as well.

Is Berserk 2016 a continuation of the 1997 one?

Also, I actually think the new trailer looks 50x better than the old one, I dunno what all the hate is about o.O

As far as I know, it's a continuation.
People don't like the animation style, I'm a bit undecided until i see it in action and have tried to get used to it, but i can see it putting me off as well.

Cheers. Yeah the 3D stuff sucks but the second trailer is a massive improvement on the first for me. From Reddit (left is the first, right is the second):

Looks better indeed, but the 5th picture looks horrible, that nose!

Finished watching Stein's Gate, it took a while to get going but ended up turning out really excellent.
Put this on hold a while ago, really need to get back to it. Think I was about 6 eps in.

My Hero Academia is the anime of the summer guys. Bones animating it. Brilliant stuff.

Guess it's worth continuing after episode 5 then. I felt like not much was happening honestly but I'll get back to it today hopefully.

It was the first few episodes that got me hooked on it.

Been watching Hunter x Hunter 2011. Was really enjoying until this ridiculous chimera ant arc. It feels like it's gone for 50 episodes, when it could've been half that. Constant narration, pointless events. I don't know what on earth has happened for the pacing to change so drastically.

 some people's favourite arc, some people's most hated. I thought it was really tedious after a while, but I went in hearing about how long it was, so I guess that effected my enjoyment somewhat. Still a good arc nevertheless. It's worth prevailing with.

Really? It left me disappointed. Didn't have anything that I liked in previous arcs. Long, tedious, slow episodes, gloomy..overall not a fun watch. For me the Heavens Arena and Greed Island were the best arcs followed by maybe Hunter Exam.

Has anyone read the manga?
What art said ^

Also, the very slow episodes

...the ones which took about 3 episodes to cover 10 seconds or something mental, were very well done IMO. And I liked the exchanges between Mereum and Komugi a lot, and especially the end bit.

I hated it really. Painfully slow, too much talking about things happening instead of things actually happening. And in the end

No one even fights. Oh, I'm poisoned. Now everyone's dead. The end.
It's a super power anime where the main villain is killed by poison from a bomb.
It's like Superman being stabbed by a pointy stick and dying. Or he picks up a urinary infection and dies.
You also have huge amounts of just wasted time. Gon's huge build up to the fight. Massive, massive build up to it and then it's over in five seconds and we don't even see most of it. The whole arc is just wasted. Wasted time, wasted effort.
Killua spends the whole arc doing literally nothing. I mean he enters one fight, for approximately 2 minutes and then runs out of power. And runs away.
The motivations barely made any sense as well. The only person who has a personal interest in the whole arc was Gon because Kite was killed. He knew Kite for what the total of two days, he was way too invested in him. The arc feels unimportant to the viewer because most of the characters just work for a sense of duty or pride. Its hardly engaging. Despite this, Gon's fight is totally anti-climactic.
Not to mention the show is about Gon trying to find his father. The chimera ants were just a stop he decided to make along the way. He and Killua didn't have participate at all.
