Television The Caf' Anime Thread

The long wait between info dumps and character appearances makes them all the sweeter.

Fighting in the manga does nothing for me tbh.
Same here. I'm a fan of fighting in the anime though.

Not gonna lie, the use of music in the anime lately has been shite, and music is like an integral part of anime for me.

Same here! Love it when Oda takes a myriad storylines and weaves them together in a single chapter — whetting our appetite for clues and setting the tone for subsequent arcs.

Really interested in finding out what went down between Coby and Law at Rocky Port as well. Low-key suspect Coby will be the one to either eventually take down Akainu in Raftel, or given his James Gordon-esque idealism - lead to a shake-up of the Marines as a future Fleet Admiral (superseding Aokiji in the process).

Doubt he'll be the one to take down Akainu, but I think it's pretty clear he's going to be at least an Admiral one day.

I'm so pumped for The Reverie. Please show yourself, Ryokugyu.

Yeah you're probably right, mate. Not very plausible considering the vast power differential, and even EOS might be too much too soon for Coby - even though he's been trained by Garp and shōnen progression isn't always linear (e.g. Coby could power up by inheriting Aokiji's Hie Hie no Mi if the latter is killed). It's just that I can't think of a better character to defeat Sakazuki in terms of both — the narrative (apart from Luffy and Sabo, obviously), considering Akainu and Coby's previous impasse, as it were, at Marineford:

tumblr_lhvpmc0y6B1qclke2.jpg

And the symbolic change of guard - with Coby emerging as the Sengoku/Garp type figure of his generation by overcoming Akainu and ushering in a new era for the Marines. And that includes Kuzan - mostly because even though he's also philosophically opposed to Akainu, he isn't as significant to Luffy's overall storyline (or the future of the One Piece universe) and wouldn't be as big of an underdog (with a point to prove) as Coby.

I'm just waiting for Wano Kuni, Mariejois and Zoro's Arc. Maybe a week or two away in One Piece time, but at least 3 years away in real time at Oda's current rate. :(

Can't wait for the Fishman Island Arc to finish. Not a fan of the antagonist.

I tend to believe Reverie would be a sub-arc like PH so it not would be that long maybe just 10 or 20 chapters i hope. Wano is the next big arc i think. That would be Zoro time to shine. I'd love to see whats he got to clash with 3 disasters Kaido.

Hope so, mate, and to be fair, Oda did say that Wano will start in 2018:

But back in 2015, he said it'll start in 2017 — so who knows, and I'm always a bit skeptical about his proposed time-frames as a rule of thumb.

I cant read that letter. :D
I think that because WCI arc dragging too long beyond Oda expected i guess. At some point in previous arc i sense it too much to served, as when Luffy fought Katakuri, that was too long.
But then, One Piece has already too long beyond Oda expected aswell. I remember Wano supposed to begin last year but here we are.
I want this to be straightforward, after RA announce war, Luffy liberate Wano and fight Kaido, it should be arc about Red Pone and BB or Luffy meet Shanks. Its about time to conclude this manga. Well, maybe this would come in next 7 years later.
But i enjoy it so far. One Piece is the only manga i still follow till date.

I always had skepticism about live action adaptation from anime or manga. There's always something off about it. But will watch it btw. Kinda sad that Bleach was a letdown after Aizen arc

Fate/Stay night heavens feel going on my second screen. Always feels good to have more from the nasuverse to watch. :D

I can't wait anymore, no clue where the actual chapter is but has anyone read the latest One Piece spoilers? What the feck o.o

Strawhat?

New chapter will be out in few hours time, maybe in morning European time.

Its about time to reveal WG's secret. I would imagine D hold massive influence in void century. Some theories even said that One Piece is actually the Strawhat. We barely just know the surface. Nefertari Cobra come to Reverie with intend to ask WG about his family doing in void century and all the secret came with it. It expected to be short arc but held massive influence in upcoming storyline

I read the spoilers, but I need to look at the manga to understand the meaning fully.

I was thinking of watching Attack on Titans, it's that good ? I don't watch much anime tbh, just some gems like Hajime no Ippo, Code Geass and Hunter x Hunter.

Season 1 was good at least for me, beyond that i dont know, you dont watch one piece at all?

I always heard great things about One Piece but it's gonna be a hell of a job to start it now with this crazy number of episodes.

I want some thing that's in the range of 150 episodes max and has already ended.

One Piece is entirely worth it, it's just a matter whether or not you have the time and are willing to make it through the first few hundred episode slog. That's how it was for me at least, but once the ride got going it was so worth it, it's so easily my favourite anime series now.

Attack on Titan is worth it for a short series, but if you are impatient like me you might want to wait until the entire thing is finished before you get into it. Otherwise give it a shot. It's a fantastic anime, beautifully animated, awesome fitting music and nicely written from what is out so far.

To be fair, One Piece only ever tends to feature one world building chapter between arcs and they are massively impactful, so a whole mini-arc of this is majestic for me.

Only take 14 and half days to watch it all. Chin up mate. Its not gonna finish either in another 10 years maybe.

Yep. I never found anyone that said bad things about One Piece, it's the problem of time. I may start whenever I get a vacation and have nothing to do in it, but at the moment I can barely watch 2-3 episodes a day at best.

@Twigg things you said about Attack On Titan is encouraging. I'll give it a shot for some episodes and see how it'll go.

Punk Hazard was hard to get past but man Dressrosa is epic!
I'm approaching Punk Hazard now ... on 574 dubbed meaning I'm 5 episodes away. Really hyped for Dressrora if it involves what I think it might

One piece was too slow. I gave up after 80 something episodes with story progressing very slowly.
I'll just ctrl+v a previous post regarding this:
It's just so bloody slow. I watched 80+ episodes before giving up on that.
Ow, you were just about to reach Logue Town, and the starting point of the Alabasta Saga - which is where things kicks up a notch. Plus, two critical characters of the One Piece story-line will assume prominent roles in the following arcs:

Episode #90+ is the real turning point in terms of the tone of the story, IMO — take out a few fillers from Sky Island, and it's prime One Piece: Skypeia, Jaya, Water 7, Ennies Lobby!

Also, if you reckon things are dragging along, you could always try One Pace: http://onepace.net/#/

Can't recommend One Piece enough. It's a fantastic world created by Oda, the guy is a genius. Don't be discouraged if you're starting now, just enjoy the ride you have all the time in the world to catch up.

For all of OP's wacther, do you watch Sub version or Dub version? Maybe because i'm an Asian i much prefer Sub version because stay true to original version of it makes it more fun to watch. I cant get passed one episode when watch dub version tbh.

Was that 4kids by any chance? FUNimation is really good

Dunno about the others, but I'm majorly attached to the voices of Mayumi Tanaka, Hiroshi Kamiya, Hiroaki Hirata and co. after initially, and briefly, watching the godawful 4kids rendition. Reckon One Piece loses a lot of its juvenile charm and quirky humor in the dub — considering all the nuances of the original version as regards diction and delivery can't be adequately captured or replicated by the English voice actors.

I dont remember what version it was but indeed it was awful.I never watch dub version after that. And yes, the charms its in actor's voice. Wonder how dub version recreate when Luffy singing.

Yeah. Having dropped it, I'm just finding it difficult to restart this.

Currently progressing through Gin Tama now. Lovely series!
