The MMA thread

For anybody that is interested, Affliction Banned is on tonight at 7pm on the Fight Network. I'm guessing most people will be watching the football though.

I'm just after watching Affliction: Banned. I know it was from last July but it only got shown over here. I am suprised Setanta didn't get a hold of it.

Anyway, what were the UFC thinking in messing Andrei Arlovski about and then letting him leave. He is absolute quality. That was a fantastic performance against Rothwell. I see that he was scheduled to fight Fedor in January but Fedor got injured. He might be one who'd give Fedor a decent fight. I just cannot see Couture getting close to Fedor.

Anyway rant over. Bad business by Dana White letting him go.

Definitely agree with you on Arlovski. He was real marketable too. Even more so after his last two demolitions he's put on Rothwell and Nelson.

saw the Ultimate Fighter last night. Junie is a grade A cnut. I was hoping Nogueira would stretch him.

Hardy put in an excellent performance against a tough opponent, congrats to the lad, he cant half take a punch. WTF was that entrance from Gono all about, was pretty funny, though.

All round was pretty disappointed with the night, started and finished too early, no knockouts, the fights didn't flow - in London there were more fights & the time in between fights was much less, the toilet/bar situation was a complete joke.

However, I had possibly the best night out ever in Birmingham, some cheesy 80's bar, Birmingham went up massively in my book after last night.

hardys got 3 fights left on his deal... 9 and 1 in his last 10 and the loss was a spurious disqualifications... a couple of good fights and hes got to then bee looking at fitch, serra, hughes, alaves... or even gsp!...

i know hardy is your boy... but do you reckon he has a chance against gsp?
( apart from a punchers chance, which anyone has... as serra proved )

well... dan thinks hes got a chance!...

he thinks people show him too much respect and let him get them in a clinch...

i dunno... for me gsp is great, however as serra showed if you clobber him he does not like it... and dan has heavy hands...

i think gsp would be favourite but i think dan would give him as good a match as anybody out there...

im biased but id say yes hes got a chance... and i think he would do a lot better than most people expected... but the ufc is a jump again in fitness from cage warriors... give him a year to get better at his clinch wrestling, to practice with eddy bravo some more and to carry on training at leicester tigers to get that pure explosive power and then i think he would be ready...

it's good he thinks he has a chance otherwise he shouldn't get in there

yeah as he says the fitch match showed that hes not quite superhuman... if hughes was 5 years younger then i think he would be right up there as well... and thiago alaves is a hell of a fighter as well...

plus who knows what will happen after the gsp bj penn rematch...

i actually have a sneeking suspicion that penn will move up a weight... and then gsp will move up a weight to fight silva... who will then move up to light heavy...

it would certainly generate a lot of ppv...

but the 2 guys dan realy wants to fight is hughes and gsp... i guess time will tell but its one of the most competative divisions and he is going to have to have a couple of good fights to get the shot

i haven't seen much of hardy... only the clips you posted, but from them his thai stuff looks top class

Hughes only has the grudge match with Serra left. He's stated that numerous times and since he now old and a little bit shit, I believe him.

possibly...

it would be good to see him go out with a win... and it would also be nice for somebody to go out on their own terms... but with the money on offer its got to be tempting to have that one extra fight

EZee, you think Dan is going to fight in Dublin?

dunno... ive not spoken to him since the fight...

wouldnt be surprised though... its plenty of time for him to get back in shape and i expect there will be a lot of uk fighters on rotation...

erm... :nervous: ... put it away...

 Didn't even remember posting that, drinking & posting is almost as dangerous as drink driving.

Cant believe that Cote's knee collapsed - I thought it would have been given as a no contest, not a TKO - Anderson was almost embarrassed accepting the victory. He's such a good fighter, they were talking about how good Cote done (even though he lost both rounds points wise), just goes to show that the Spider is on another level.

yeah... for me the "ultimate fight" would be GSP vs Silva at 177.5 lbs

Cote did better than anyone else against the Spider, too bad his knee blew out....

He was doing well although Anderson probably won both rounds. Anderson wasn't as clinical as usual. I don't know, was he showboating a bit or something?

Thiago Alves was class.

I'd love to see how good Bisping really is. I'd love to see him up against Thales Leites.

Anderson Silva wants to fight at UFC 91: Couture vs Lesnar

Following his fight with Patrick Cote, Anderson Silva was visibly disappointed. And he had previously stated that he wanted to fight up to 6 times a year. Now the UFC’s middleweight champ is “flipping out” because he wants to fight as soon as possible.

Dana White talked to Yahoo Sports about the situation

"He's flipping out. He wants to fight again, like, on Nov. 15. He's (upset) about his performance and he wants to fight again immediately.

Anderson Silva is tipped to fight former UFC light-heavyweight Chuck Liddell at UFC 95 in London at the UFC’s 205lb class. But who can he fight between now and then? It would appear that UFC 91 is the perfect card for him to fight on, with the next fight after Couture/Lesnar being Joe Stevenson vs Kenny Florian. Keep locked to MMABAY to find out when Anderson will be fighting next.

It'd be great to see him fight again. He is the best there is.

I presume you'll be going to the UFC in London? Silva v Chuck would be class.

MICHAEL BISPING says Anderson Silva must face him before calling time on his Mixed Martial Arts career.
Brazilian Muay Thai master Silva, 33, has revealed he intends to quit the sport when he turns 35.

But 29-year-old Bisping has urged The Spider to shelve his retirement plans and fight on.

The Lancastrian said: “He’s calling it quits a little too soon. I read that he feels there’s nothing left for him to do.

“Personally, I disagree. I think there are a lot of good fights at middleweight for him – me being one of them."

But the Brit conceded it is vital for a fighter to end their career on a high rather than carrying on past their prime.

Bisping added: “To be honest, 35 is a very reasonable age to say ‘I’m going to call it a day’.

“Anderson is the pound for pound best in the world – an unbelievable fighter.

“He improves with every fight, shows a different game every time and is a class act.

“It’d be great for him to leave on a high and think you do have to set out a point when you are going to call it quits.

“It’s always such a tragedy in boxing, for example, when great fighters stick around too long and aren’t remembered for the great fighters they were in their heyday.

“But that said, I want to get a pop at the guy before he retires.”

Bisping notched his third win in a row by beating American Chris Leben at UFC 89.

And he insists he is ready to fight the best in the division to get to the top – but reiterated his desire to one day challenge Silva.

Bisping said: “I don’t want to beat somebody by default to get the belt – I want to beat the best guy out there.

“Let’s say Silva retired and I took the belt off someone else – don’t get me wrong, that would be amazing.

“But people would always say ‘well if Anderson Silva had the belt...’

“He’s calling it quits too soon. There are a lot of good middleweights out there that he hasn’t fought yet.

“But right now he’s unstoppable and fair play to him.”

It would be amazing to get tickets for that - think I would have to sign up for a membership to be in a position to be guaranteed tickets for this - but its still only at the rumour stage, I hope Chuck returns because he owe the UK an appearance.

Regarding Bisping calling out Silva, is he mad?

I think Bisping believes he is far better than he is. I don't think he would last more than the first round against Silva. He needs a hell of a lot more experience. I don't think he'll get a shot though. He hasn't beaten any of the top contenders. He'd have to beat at least two I would think to be considered for a shot. I would like to see Bisping against Okami or Marquardt.
