really enjoyed the night. not as show stopping as 92, but some really interesting results. i picked 3 out of 5 winners, which is more than i was expecting.
Nate Diaz disappointed me, and Clay Guida really impressed. i thought Diaz would make Guida look 1 dimensional, but as it was, the opposite happened. Guida kinda reminds me of our own Tevez in his positive attitude and relentless, bull like persistance. Diaz didn't look himself, he didn't impose ANY of his own will onto the fight. his hands looked good at times when standing. but, his BJJ was completely dominated by Guida's wrestling base.
Jon Jones did what i thought he would (potential future star) against Bonnar, except he didn't stop him. looked like he was going to a few times though! really impressed with Jones and can't wait to see him again. those suplexes, spinning elbows, and back kicks! man!
Dong Hyun Kim VS Karo Parisyan was an interesting one, because Kim looked so good in the first round and a half. kept going for the standing rear naked choke and his hands looked good. but he seemed to wilt. good to see Karo back after his problems, but Kim let the fight slip from him i feel.
Machida looks better and better every time i see him. rapidly becoming one of my current favourite fighters, and a fascinating fighter to watch. i'm really interested to see him fight against somone with fast powerful hands, and a good stand up game at 205. maybe Rampage? i think his next fight might well be against Franklin. i'd look forward to that, too.
and Penn VS Georges St-Pierre was way more one sided than i guessed. it's the only pick that i got completely right (Machida didn't tko Silva, he ko'd him!). but it totally shocked me how easily GSP nullified Penn. it wasn't just his size either, you could see him physically anticipating what BJ was going to do/where he was going to move. of course his fantastic physical base made it easier for him to control Penn. but, he was quicker too with the jab, way quicker in fact.
he just made BJ look average, which was surreal to watch. i'm a Penn fan, and GSP fan. but i thought BJ talked too much before the fight and got lost in his own emotions somewhat. he didn't seem to have any kind of plan b.
