The MMA thread

Unfortunately not, although I am a little disappointed about selling my tickets, I'm still be watching on the tv.

Ezee, you've got to get a Margarita from the bar half way through the night - the place gets pretty hot & those go down like a dream, although they do cost a tenner a go.

Here's a picture out of my Hotel window from last years visit, its not in the nicest of area's.

Right, what are your predictions for what should be some decent fights?

Joe Stevenson v Diego Sanchez

Dan Hardy v Rory Markham

Nate Marquardt v Wilson Gouveia

Demian Maia v Chael Sonnen

Josh Koscheck v Paulo Thiago

I'd go with the same apart from I think Joe Daddy is going to beat the nightmare.

Wanderlei Silva dropped down to 205 today, should make the division a little more interesting - A Silva v W Silva or Hendo v W Silva would be very good fights.

yeah i said a few weeks ago that this would happen... silva silva looks like a great fight but i doubt they will give him a title shot straight away

Dan's been all over the news, have you seen this interview with Jimmy Wallhead?

http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/other-sports/2009/02/16/UFC-Wallhead-on-Hardy/gnid-40560/

hadnt seen that...

but he has been looking super sharp when ive seen him in owens class...

his striking is frightning at the moment...

he also mentioned about dropping his left in the last fight as a tactic to stop gono shooting...

should be a proper fight at the weekend though... could be fight of the night looking at how much they like to trade punches

isnt his next fight all tied into the tuf thingy?

Yea he will fight Henderson.

But I'm sure Wanderlei will have a fight around the same time.

Then maybe Bisping v Wanderlei for a shot at Silva.

It really depends on how Bisping and Wanderlei do in their next fights.

Yer, I don't like Franklins chances though.

I don't know. Franklin isn't exactly accustomed to losing very often. Wanderlei was savagely knocked out is his last fight. I think Franklin could quite well knock him out.

Well I just feel that Franklin lacks a little bit to compete with the top fighters. Anderson Silva wiped the floor with him twice. Ok maybe not fair seeing as he does that everyone anyway.

Do you think Wand is a spent force?

No not at all however I like Franklin. As Joe Rogan points out regularly, if you have been completely knocked out a few times (as Wanderlei was against Rampage and Mirko), it becomes a lot easier to be knocked out. If Franklin lands a decent one on him, you could see him winning. I think it'd be a great fight. It isn't easy to knock Franklin out either, although his losses to Anderson Silva seem to prove otherwise. But as you said, the Spider wipes the floor with everyone.

What do you think?

Yeh, that is a good point actually. He has been a lot more susceptible to a knockout recently. The last 3 out of 5 fights he has had have ended in him being KO'd.

I still think he can turn it around though, he was impressive against Jardine and he still has the tools to trouble a lot of fighters.

More I think about it, him fighting Franklin will be a huge fight!

was a great night...

tons of fights on the bill so there wasnt too long hanging around between them even though quite a few were stopped pretty quickly...

dan did the business... terry etim looked good as well...

it will be interesting to see who dan fights next... not including the fight he was disqualified in (which was a complete fecking joke) its almost 3 years since he lost a fight and hes won 10...

he hs 2 fights left on his 4 fight deal with the ufc so i think its time to give him a decent opponent...

You're not wrong.

That was a cracking performance.

I've only watched UFC 95. I was impressed with Hardy. Great knockout. Great to see Kos getting his ass kicked as he can be a right prick sometimes.

Maia was again phenomenal. He BJJ is as good as anyone in the UFC.

Also, I just watched UFC Wired and they showed GSP v Sherk. What a great fight for GSP. He completely dominated Sherk who had a record of 33-1-1 going into the fight.

It also showed Anderson Silva v Rich Franklin (1). Silva was absolutely outstanding. His display of Muoy Thai in that fight is probably the best ever seen in the UFC. He completely dominated Franklin who himself is a fantastic fighter.

Anyway, Anderson Silva & GSP, the two best pound for pound fighters in the UFC in my opinion. (although it's a fairly obvious choice)

Some great fights coming up over the next couple of months. Spider will annihilate Leites.

im not too fussed about jardine vs jackson and im a bit underwhelmed by the rest of the card as well for ufc 96

97 will be good because its always interesting to see silva fight... rua vs liddell... congo and cane on the bill as well (though obviousley not against each other)

98 looks like being a good night with the long awaited serra hughes match and lesnar mir 2...

silva franklin at ufc 99...

then its ufc 100!

gsp vs alves and bisping henderson already confirmed for that one

I thought I heard rumours that UFC 100 would be all title fights, doesn't seem likely though. GSP vs Alves will be the main event it seems.

I can't see that happening because it would make a lot of the cards before and after a lot weaker. There should be some great fights though.
