The MMA thread

He was a cock but for some reason I still wanted him to win. I thought Henderson was a bit out of order for saying that second blow when Bisping was clearly Ko'd was punishment.

I also thought Brock was a complete cock after his fight and I'd love to see him get knocked out.

The second punch was pretty shitty, but these fighters always get a few hits in when their opponent is on the ground and can't protect themselves.

Brock is just trying to get a bigger name for himself and it seems to be working. I will laugh when he gets knocked out. That being said he is a beast.

I hope this loss will shut Bisping up a bit. Always been talented, but my god does he talk some shit.

Yeah, I was a fan of him in all of his other fights but I recently caught a few episodes of the Ultimate Fighter the other day and he came off as a cock the whole time.

Bisping hasn't really done much when you think of it. He won TUF, fair enough. He lost to Matt Hammil (Hamill was absolutely fecking robbed, Bisping did not win that fight), lost to Rashad, beat Charles McCarthy who's 1-2 in UFC, then beat Day and Leben. I don't know why he thought he was in the bracket to beat Henderson.

By the way, Brock Lesnar is fecking scary. Absolute arsehole, but feck me he is quality. Can't see many people in the UFC beating him, I think the only one is Shane Carwin, who's never even gotten to round 2, and Lesnar could probably out-point him if he wanted. I think the person who could beat Lesnar is a deadly striker, like top-form Cro Cop, and hopefully he does get back to his best. He's signed a 3 fight deal with UFC the other day aswell.

I think Arlovski outstrips Cro Cop as a deadly striker, if he gets his training camp right. If he spends a good 4 weeks with Freddie Roach, I think he'd be a genuine threat to Lesnar as long as he can keep it standing up long enough to do damage.

Cro Cop, Arlovski and Carwin are the best bets in my opinion to beat Lesnar. Lesnar clearly struggles when hit, he even struggled for a couple of seconds when Mir hit him and kneed him in the second round. If a top notch striker like Cro Cop could avoid a take down and stand up for a couple of minutes, I think he could knock Lesnar out. He may get a title shot sooner rather than later after signing a 3 fight deal. Velasquez and Brock could happen within the next year also, with Velasquez being a top notch wrestler. I also think Congo could beat Lesnar.

Does nobody on here think that Josh Barnett would be in with a chance against Lesnar?

Carwin is fighting Valazquez at 104, winner of that is fighting Lesnar.

I've never really saw him fight. He's fighting Fedor soon isn't he?

Fedor vs Lesnar would be fecking amazing.

Yea, 1st August. Sylvia's also fighting in the same event :nervous:

That I did not know but I'd meant to check. Lesnar will have a massive break before his next fight so. I'm surprised they are not trying to cash in on him more. He seems to fight less than everyone else.

"Speaking on what’s next for the heavyweight champ, Dana stated that “Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez are set to fight in October, and the winner of that fight gets Lesnar.”

What did you all think of Hendersons second shot on Bisping? I was watching it with my Missus and a mate of mine, both of whom I had convinced to watch it with me, who both thought the sport was disgusting and barbaric beforehand, and seeing that in the second ever MMA fight they watched didn't help. Especially with what he said afterwards.

got sparked out by the grim didnt he...

also got sparked out by fedor...

if he came back to ufc id like to see him go a couple of fights without being sparked...

its a fact that after you have been knocked out you become easier to knock out and that was a hell of an overhand punch he jumped into off fedor

kongo would get taken down... his ground game is non existant... it would not be pretty and it would not go past the 1st round imo

yeah... but id make lesnar favourite...

barnet fights around 250... lesnar cuts to 265 and fights at approx 300lbs...

50lbs difference...

thats like bj penn fighting macheda (which he did... and unsurprisingly lost)

It was completely uncalled for. He was clearly knocked all the way out, and it looked like he was trying to kill him with that last shot.

yeah but n the heat of the moment you follown up because its what you train to do... look at the guida, sanchez fight... guida looked out after the kick to the head and sanchez admited he thought he had ko's him with that... if he had followed up properly it would have been over but instread he almost lost the fight when guida came back at him

i have much less of an issue with that than when there was a guy who chocked somebody unconsious despite him tapping twice because they had a bit of history...

sherdog rankings...

http://www.sherdog.com/news/rankings/sherdog-official-mixed-martial-arts-rankings-18558

woo yay... dan in the top 10... highest ranked of all uk fighters...

if ufc 105 comes to the uk it will be interesting to see if he fights there (i assume he will) and who he gets... with kampman vs swick and trigg vs kos at ufc announced for 103 who is left...

fitch and alaves are probably a could of wins away for dan id say
thiago?... that could be a good fight
condit... again that could be a very good fight as well

personally id fancy his chances against either thiago or condit...

a win against either of them (given that 2 out of kampman swick trigg and kos must loose) would put him in the top 5/6 imo...

though the top 3 are very tough fighters

i know its not ufc... but rather MMA...

what do people think about the carano vs cyborg fight
http://www.sherdog.com/pictures/event/pictures-carano-cyborg-meet-the-press-18541
im really looking forward to it...

i know some people have a problem with womens mma... i for one dont and have sparred with quite a few gals I know getting them ready for a fight... believe me they would take out most men in a bar fight... and besides grappling with some of them can actually be quite good fun

im rooting for gina... she just seems loverly... and is fit
yay gina

cyborg seems a little scary... and not very fit (though i wouldnt tell her hubby:nervous:)

Arlovski has a chin almost completely made of cake, Cro Cop would get taken down and pummeled, so would Kongo, Josh Barnett is a clever fighter, but like Ezee said he is like a lightweight version of Brock. Carwin needs to improve but could be very dangerous.

He'd have some time on his feet, and by the looks of Lesnar he can be knocked down/out. He really looked like he was struggling even when taking those few shots from Randy and Mir.

I didn't say Kongo would beat Lesnar, I think he could though!

Josh Barnett is a superb wrestler though. I think if he could withstand the early barrage from Brock, he could out-last him endurance-wise. Yes, like Ezee said he does fight at around 250, and having that plus another 50 odd pounds on top of you for 10 minutes does take a large chunk of your stamina, but people underestimate the effort it takes from Brock to maintain that position, he isn't simply falling on top of them and not putting any effort in (though it sometimes seems that way).

I think Cro Cop would have the best chance if he went early at Brock and hit him early. He has very good takedown defence but it is one think having good take down defence and another thing defending Lesnar's takedowns.

Lesnar should fight more. If Carwin and Velasquez fight at 104, it'd be probably 109 or 110 before Lesnar fights again.

In relation to Henderson, he was probably out of line, but I was not surprised. Bisping mouths off far too much. Although it's not an excuse, the ref hadn't stopped it at that stage. Put it this way, I think it was far worse what Babalu did. Anyway, Henderson was in the wrong, but I wouldn't blame him too much. I'd love to hit Bisping as well, but he'd obviously murder me.

having done some bjj myself i can tell you 100% it takes a feck of a lot more out of you when somebody is chest to chest with you and you are on the bottom...

plus brock lesnar has a pretty amazing wrestling record from his colledge days

Lesnar finished his amateur career as a two-time NJCAA All-American, 1998 NJCAA Heavyweight Champion, two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Ten Conference Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106–5 overall in four years of college.[16]

interestingly sherdog rank barnet 2nd in the hw category behind fedor...

though if fedor knocks him the feck out as i suspect he might it will leave fedor and lesnar as the obvious top 2 fighters in the hw division with no realistic chance of the fight happening...

carwin is imo quite limited... Velasquez is again 50-60 lbs lighter than lesnar... 60 lbs!!!!! thats like gina carano getting in the ring with macheda...

it will be interesting to see how brock would cope with a 4 or 5 round match... imo that is one of the differences between him and fedor... you just know fedor would carry on till the job was done...

but honestly outside of fedor im not sure there is anybody (other than say a big / lucky shot from somebody like the grim) that can match up to him... it really reinforces to me why there should be a weigh in on the day of the fight... preferably on the walk into the ring...

most champions only fight a couple of times a year though...

especially if they are cuttig the ammount of weight lesnar cuts...

anything more than 3 fights a year is too much imo for people training for 5 round fights... a fighter who is training for 3 rounds might be ok for 4 fights but after that they wont be in their best condition... but i think that 2 fights a year for a champion is not unreasonable... not many boxers defend a title 3 times in a year do they

personally i was a big fan of the old ufc format where they had 3 fights in 1 night but in truth if you want the best people fighting at their peak then i think around 3 or 4 fights a year is about right...

I don't know who made this, but I had to share it. Sorry, Bisping fans.

They've really gone to town on the poor bloke. He never should have agreed to be a coach on TUF.

There's strong rumours that he's gonna be going up against Wanderlei Silva when the UFC is back in Manchester later in the year. :nervous:

 Thats gonna end in disaster or death

wandeleri has lost 5 of his last 6 fights

3 of those he has been ko'd in and 2 of those fights he was ko'd in the 1st round...

its a fact (not a facht) that the more times you are ko'd the more lilkley it is you will be ko'd again...

the axe murder certainly aint as scary as he used to be... you know he will give you the chance to get a couple of shots off as thats his style and its been his downfall...

This is true but Bisping is no way near the class of CroCop, Henderson, Liddell, Jackson or Franklin.

I don't think he has the power to knock Wanderlei out and he certainly won't sub him.

It can only end one way IMO.

a lot will depend on how he makes the cut to 185... at 33 thats not going to be such an easy ajustment to make...

especially if he keeps on doing things like snorkel training...

could be as good uk card for 105 though with dan hardy, terry etim and paul kelly all about due another fight then as well

I hope I get tickets for 105

im undecided... had tickets for 95 a couple of rows back... if dan hadnt have been fighting though the rest of the card was not that good...

plus ufc 106 is only about 2 weeks later in the states so i imagine the better fights will be on that card as it makes more sence on the tv times for the ufc to do that as most of their ppv is in america...

if you want good seets though apparently they go on sale this week http://www.fiveknuckles.com/mma-news/UFC-105-tickets-on-sale-next-week.html

Yeah, but its still getting to see it live, I wasnt able to last time it was in Manchester.

And Yeah, just saw that link too, just had a like on the MEN website and theres no news

if you are after seets right at the front id recomend ticket master... they seemed to get the entire 1st 2 rows last time it was in london... i got our tickets about 1 munite after they went on sale and i was on row 3...

still a great view but it does seem ticketmaster have it locked down with the o2... persumably with men arena as well...

they cost about 300 for the floor seets and tbh its worth the extra as with the other seets you are so far away you would end up watching it all on the big screens anyway (certainly as soon as a fight goes to the ground)...

fecking hell... just saw the released pay figures for ufc 100

lesnar got $400,000 (not including any win bonus) frank mir got $45,000
