Entourage, serious business.
Entourage, the show, was hardly a critical success and they made 8 seasons of it so I doubt critical acclaim was their modus operandi.I'm sure they probably wanted at least some of the reviewers who've made it 33% and 31% on Metacritic & RT to like it. Or at least not to hate it so much to declare it an affront to everything holy and decent. But if they didn't, then yeah, they sure showed them!
Pleasing the fanbase is a low expectation?Well if you set the bar that low...

Entourage the movie was made to please Entourage fans and they succeeded (whilst also breaking even at the BO) so anything else is a bonus for them.
Fair enough, but that isn't my point. My point is that if the movie has been made to please Entourage fans, and Entrourage fans only, and Entourage fans think it's good, then it's a safe bet to assume it's a faithful reflection of the show. Which means the argument that no one who hasn't watched the show can have a proper opinion, doesn't fly, because if you liked the show, you'll like this, and if you hate this, you'll hate the show. Ipso facto, Kermode (or whomever) doesn't need to do dick to have an opinion.
This is now the second pro-Entourage movie argument that's contradicted itself (After the "It's just a light hearted brainless piece of fluff that you need to watch countless hours of to understand the context" one) Consequently I already hate it with a passion, and I've yet to see either the film or the show.
Ironically, this makes me want to watch it more.
Yeah, but I can feel this being an epically rant worthy subject. I've already managed to start a three page argument over something I've never seen. Just imagine how good it'll get when I've actually watched it!
Nah, I watched some more of his videos to get a proper consensus and the guy is an cnut.Kermode is a god though, just worth pointing it out again.
Cant say the same, I don't think about youAnd we now know everything about you.
The actual movie itself will be a tremendous letdown after this buildup. However, a good Mockney rant would be worth the price of admission.Yeah, but I can feel this being an epically rant worthy subject. He's just got a way with words. Good one to look up is Prometheus. A movie that I didn't really mind too much when I saw it, but after reading his rant I questioned myself as to why I didn't dislike it more.So what are these rants like then?
Should I go and trawl through loads of old rants to give this new one a better context then? I think it would be so much better if I do that...

@Pogue Mahone Fair enough, you don't like Entourage, but please tell me I'm not alone in saying that Locke is one of the very best character studies of recent years.
I haven't watched Entourage the TV show, but the movie was bearable as a 19 year old. Some funny moments here and there. I know a few people from Hollywood or nearby similar places in terms of economic status like Beverly Hills, and the people there do tend to be tasteless, snobby, and shallow. Obviously not to the extent the movie parodies, but the point remains.
Still, I don't like how every single character was repulsive. Not one left a good taste.
It's The Departed he really hated. Well, I don't think he actually hated the film, but still, his rant on that was epic. You got a link to the Prometheus one? Never read it.He's just got a way with words. Good one to look up is Prometheus. A movie that I didn't really mind too much when I saw it, but after reading his rant I questioned myself as to why I didn't dislike it more.Iirc, he felt the same about Interstellar, a movie that I actually quite liked. (edit: check that, he didn't mind Interstellar)
Absolutely. It's an open goal. You're talking about people who are so easily pleased they've stuck with the same tired formula for 8 seasons of ever diminishing quality. Serve them up any old mess of douchebag male fantasies with enough boobies, fancy cars and loud music and they're all good.
If the film-makers had a bit more about them they might have made a movie good enough to be enjoyed by people who weren't already fans of the show. I've never heard of any big studio investing that much money in making a movie with the soul intention of pleasing existing fans and breaking even at the box office. They'll have hoped to make a lot of money and win over a bunch of new fans. Judging by the reviews (and not just Kermode's) what they served up was so lame it achieved only the most basic of goals.
Currently has a 7.4 rating on IMDB so I'd consider that a fairly good reception from non critics.
As far as the critics go they were always going to hate on it purely based on what the show/movie is about. I give no weight to what they say or let their opinions sour my opinion of the movie. I liked it as an Entourage fan and thats pretty much all I have to say on the matter really. I honestly couldn't care less If you guys do/don't like it really, the only thing that matters is that I do.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to watch it etc. I'm just challenging criticisms that in my opinion were unjust.
Entourage came out like a month before TG.Terminator Genisys currently has a 7.0 ... give it time.
Terminator Genisys currently has a 7.0 ... give it time.
Actually, i'll use that to segue into
Terminator Genisys - Dumb as feck. Takes all sort of liberties, not only with time travel logic, but with all logic. Today it occured to me:
Who the feck uses a time machine to travel 20 years INTO THE FUTURE? I mean, why didn't they just... you know... wait?! And plan... and shit
Entourage came out like a month before TG.
So it went from 8 to 7.2. What a transformationIt's also been seen by a lot less people... also a month isn't that long.
IMDB scores always start high... takes a while for them to even out. I seem to recall Man of Steel sitting at an 8 or something for a while after it was released... now it's sitting on a (still proposterously high) 7.2

The show itself was never one to excel when it came to getting good critical reviews. I didn't think the movie would be any different because simply the movie was bound to be just an extended episode of the show, which it pretty much was. What do you mean?
So it went from 8 to 7.2. What a transformation
For the record as a movie Entourage wasn't that good. Even as a fan it was nothing special but because I am a fan I was pleased to see it. If it was just an ordinary movie without the show before it etc. then it would have been probably a 5/10. Because of the show I'd probably give it a 6.
