I agree, it's come out of nowhere but the more I think about it the better it gets. He is a very good player and would be a great option from the bench and would also bring valuable experience to the squad. Could be a very shrewd purchase.

He's PL proven and gives you another dimension.

Chelsea are really failing in their business. Snoozing, like with Lukaku, and having the player taken from them.

Llorente is genuinely a good signing and so is Aurier. Still think they need someone on the wings.

Andre Gomes on load from Barca with a view to a transfer is a real possibility according to SSN. Don't know much about him TBH, any views?

I've heard the words "water carrier" used a lot when it comes to Gomes. Personally i've not watched enough to know much about him but there's been plenty of material suggesting the Barca players don't rate him. That could be just Marca being Marca.

All the Barca fans hate him

What do fans know lol.

Aurier deal completed.

Sounds like Wink's role we would have an awful lot of CMs if this happened.

The squad needs an injection of pace and invention, Llorente and Gomes don't change that. Aurier is a potentially brilliant signing though, half the price of Walker too.

Agree I'd like a pacy attacking midfielder but with Aurier and Rose coming back the pace will be there. Llorente will give us a great plan B which we have lacked for a good few seasons.

I've had serious misgivings about the prospect of Spurs signing Aurier but now it's confirmed all I can do is hope that he performs well on and off the pitch for us as there is no doubt that he is a very talented player. Walker sold for a fortune and possibly a better player coming in as a replacement for a big profit for Spurs. Sounds like fantastic business to me.

Really gutted about spurs signing Aurier. Think he could've been perfect signing for us. Yes very high risk,, but also very high possible reward.

The PR job reeks

Statement from Aurier,

Serge said: “This is a huge and exciting opportunity at a massive football club and I am determined to prove myself as a professional both on and off the pitch. This is a fresh start for me and I will do everything to make the Spurs fanbase, which is huge and diverse, proud of me. The fans are the most important people at any club and I am looking forward to showing them and everyone at Spurs the real Serge Aurier.”

Obviously worked on with the clubs PR team, but if he means this it's a great start.

Hate player statements. They obviously aren't involved in a single word of them.

That statement is ridiculous

I was half expecting to read something like "I am hoping to promote synergy within the dressing room in order to ensure we maintain and promote impetus to our project going forward" or some shit like that at the end.

All just words though, he's a promising player at a fantastic price, possibly great business by spurs and levy again.

I don't care for the Llorente signing. IMO last season's goalscoring form looks like an outlier and Swansea are cashing in on a player who will be 33 in February. It's not a huge investment from Spurs, but bringing him in and loaning Jannsen out does little for them.

The Aurier signing is good business. He should thrive under Poch as long as he keeps his head screwed on.

Llorente has done well in this league and is a great option. Gomes hasn't cut it at Barca bit Spurs is a different kettle of fish, He could be pretty good for them. Aurier is fantastic though, will be an upgrade on Walker in time.

Great deadline signings from Spurs. Money they can afford being spent on positions they need cover for and on players that have something to prove.

Impressive as always.

Aurier is better than Walker if he can stop a life of crime and get his head straight.
Llorente is a top drawer substitute center forward who will be able to keep Kane out of the team if he hits one of his purple patches.

If Llorente doesn't come and Aurier murders 3 hookers and a journo this evening can someone please delete this post. Ta.

Medical being done for Llorente with Janssen going on loan the other way which pretty much takes Chelsea out of the picture. Barkley still on the radar, what is going on at Chelsea?

Emphasis on 'potentially'. He's really talented but he's an absolute bell-end. Maybe being away from Paris will help him though.

I literally bursted out laughing when he stated the diversity of the fanbase. And who is the "real" Serge Aurier? Is there a fake one aswell?

The whole statement has really weird wording, which makes it come across as not genuine at all.

It was certainly written by the Spur's marketing department.

Last year, Barcelona acquired the left-back Digne playing for PSG (sub in Paris and loaned to Roma) for 20 millions of euros. Roma found the price excessive and he was a squad player for Paris.

Aurier is 2-3 times better than him.

Great and smart acquisition.

Now, I can vote yes for the poll

What?

We're already borrowing a lot of money to help fund the stadium. If we borrowed even more money to fund a spending spree on player transfers and higher wages, then the total debt would become crippling.

The lesson of football economics is that you spend money on players when you can afford to do so. You don't gamble with borrowed money that higher spending on players will bring success.

So Spurs already are using debt financing but it's not crippling. At exactly what point does the debt become crippling according to you? I am not disputing what you're saying btw.

Was that a written statement or did he say it out himself on tv?

Neither. He held up a series of placards in front of the camera, one after the other, Love Actually style.
