Confirmed that it’s being played in Wembley.

Their first game in the new ground will be on the 15th September v Liverpool. I gather the builder is under huge pressure, and with me being in that line of work, it’s not surprising and I’m sure the 15th September will still be somewhat a challenge.

The finishing date was always mid September, I don’t know why the fixtures couldn’t have been worked out differently, instead of using Wembley again.

Dembele of to China reportedly for £40M, sad to see him go but feel it’s a good move for all parties.

Good money that, any word on who you're replacing him with as you've been a much better side with him in it than not over the last 3 years

Very little solid links to anyone right now bar Jack Grealish, who I’m happy with at the right price, but we certainly need at least 2 CMs. Dembele was great player for us but his injuries are chronic.

That would worry me if I were a Spurs fan, replacing Dembele with a player from the championship when you already have Winks to fill that 'role'

I think Grealish will be more of creative player than a Dembele replacement. I didn’t think we would get many signings before the WC, expect much more activity as teams drop out and it wraps up.

Would love him and he has been mentioned but nothing concrete.

I think you've been linked to N'Dombele, Sanson and Grealish for the midfield position. Although it's a bit strange given that Sanson and Grealish look to me like Eriksen cover rather than replacing Dembele. N'Dombele is a bit more of a Dembele replacement but he'd cost a lot of money. You'd probably need another 10million or so ontop of that 45.

Levy said it was because the management team (aka Poch) wanted to have a home match in the first four fixtures and not open the season completely away from home - which probably would kill off a title challenge before it even started.

Chairman, Daniel Levy: “I am absolutely delighted to announce the date of our first match in our new home. Our fans have been hugely supportive and this has been much appreciated during a challenging but momentous time.

“I should also like to thank Richard Scudamore and the Board of the Premier League for having regard to exceptional circumstances, along with the Board of Watford for agreeing to reverse our fixture on Matchday 4 to an away game.

"We had always intended to request a few games away at the start of the season. The Coaching staff were keen to place a home game within the early fixtures so we shall have one home game at Wembley.

“We have held extensive scheduling discussions with Mace, our construction manager, and our lead sub-contractors. Our first operational test event will be held on 5 August.”

Manager, Mauricio Pochettino: “We are so excited to have the date of the first Premier League match at our new stadium.

“We discussed the timings and the ability to play away games and I think it is a good solution to have an earlier home game. Wembley was great for us last season and we are even more used to that than we are the new stadium. We are excited about the season ahead and making the new stadium our new home. I have stood inside the bowl and I know the atmosphere will be unbelievable – it will be well worth the wait.”

The creativity and drive from Spurs midfield comes from Winks and Dembele, with Dembele on the move it is up to Winks who is a bit of a sick note. If Winks is out injured, which seems highly likely, you have Dier, Wanyama, and Sissoko in that area, Sissoko doesnt seem like he does anything and the other two I rate as DM's but have almost no creativity.

Im still skeptical of the Grealish links. I got the feeling after Pochettino's 'be bold and take risks' statement we would see a bit of a shift in Spurs business model in regards to transfers. Grealish to me is 'business as usual' for Spurs, I was thinking they would be splashing some cash this window, like the Bale money window.

Yeah I see Grealish as Eriksen cover, would love N'Dombele but I am sure if he was to leave France we wouldn't be the only interested party.

Yep so far (very early I grant you) nothing has changed for Spurs, see the stupid asking price for Alderweireld

We will, its hard to sign any player involved in the WC.

City were interested but only as an alternative for Jorginho. Chelsea could go for him as a Kante replacement who looks increasingly like he might join PSG. Arsenal would want him but aren't in the CL and Liverpool might try him instead of Fekir (doubtful as I think they've pissed off Lyon). United have Fred and although we probably need another CM I imagine it'll be someone a bit more defensive as N'Dombele is too similar too Pogba.

Not sure about European interest, but i'd say your main competition from England is Chelsea and given the mess they're in you'd probably be the better fit.

Hope so, do you think Martial will be at United next season after the comments from his agent?

Now we need a CM who can receive the ball under pressure even more.

He's basically got 2 years on his contract left (1 year extension clause). I think £70m maximum. I'd be surprised if we got more than that and I wouldn't be shocked if we sold him for £55-60m.

To a PL rival? I would love him at Spurs, I definitely think Martial is the reason Toby hasn't been sold to you.

We always under sell our players and it's difficult to sell a player for a high price when they're unhappy. See the difference in Alderweireld is him coming out and saying he could happily remain at Spurs. Us on the other hand we have Martial who wants to leave. That puts us in a tricky situation in that if we don't sell up we'll have an unhappy player in the dressing room and it goes against what Jose said in the press not so long ago.

You're in the better negiotating position. Bayern might go for him as the replacement for Ribery though is my only thinking.

Martial's agent has said the exact same thing as Alderweireld has

"However, it is quite obvious and it is very important to remember that he is under contract, that Manchester United will have the last word and that we will respect the decision of the club, and he will fulfil his commitment to them"

Neither are banging any doors down to leave and both are seemingly happy to wait their current contracts out (and I expect throw enough money at them both will be happy to renew)

In that case it's pretty much status quo except Jose has put his foot in it by saying he won't step in the way of wanting players to leave.

Your stance is a refreshing difference to most others on here . I think as the dead line draws closer something could be done, while Toby says he could stay I feel Poch isn't overly happy with him.

Exactly. Think Alderweireld will leave for cut price and Martial will sign new contract.

Which is the same stance Spurs have with Alderweireld, they'll sell if the money is right.

That's just Jose media stunt. He is begging Fellaini to stay for months now, Jose won't stand in the way of player if the club gets very good offer and player isn't of much use.

Oh I agree, I think it's Jose trying to look noble. But it's a problem for the players who do want to leave when Jose goes back on his word. My thinking is if we really do want Alderweireld and Spurs want Martial, a deal will be agreed. But I think the same could be true with Bayern and Boateng.

I'll be surprised if we sell him to Spurs but I don't think it's an impossible scenario.

I just don't see us selling Martial to PL club.

Btw I believe what Jose says in press hardly matters, it's what he says to their face and their agents (What woodward says) really matters. He will say he won't mind player not leaving to press but he might say that he don't see any future for the player at the club on face.

Point is, what he says in press, especially regarding selling and buying players, I don't think it matters.

I guess my point is that it doesn't matter to the fans of the club. But if a player who is unhappy and wants to leave hears his Manager telling the press that he won't stand in their way but then does... well, it makes things uncomfortable in the dressing room.

I don't think we'd sell Martial for money to a PL club. But I do think we could do a potential player swap deal assuming we get a player that improves us. Those deals very rarely happen in football though, so logically we'll probably sell him abroad. For the fee we'd demand there aren't too many clubs that could actually afford him though so that automatically reduces his/our options a wee bit.

Yeah but it won't be Jose who will be holding all the meetings isn't it? All they have to say is if so and so offer is made, you can leave which makes sense. Also going by his agent, he won't mind staying as Manutd makes the final decision.

Im sure players gets very clear message about their futures. For all we know, the message to Martial is, he won't be sold as club counts on the player. Message to Darmian and Blind is to start packing the bags and search for new club.

Regarding player swap, don't think we will do for a 29 year old CB who had few injury problems. We didn't even sell Smalling to Arsenal, so don't think Ed will be happy selling Martial to Spurs.

Also I think he will sign new contract, which is what club also hopes. 2 years is a long time in football.

Selling Smalling would be an error though given he's been our first choice CB for the last few Managers. Fans might not agree, but Smalling is a very important player for United. Martial, less so given we've signed Sanchez and have Rashford both fighting for the same position.

From a Management point of view, Martial is expendable. We're after an experienced, older CB so Alderweireld/Boateng both fit that criteria. I think it's unlikely we'll do a Player Exchange deal but it's not impossible.

Anyway, this is a Spurs thread and we've taken it a bit offtopic. But it's nice to be able to discuss Martial sensibly away from the drama queens.

Yeah I agree, Smalling is our best CB and I was sort of tired making arguments against senseless bashing.

I don't think management view Martial as expendable. We paid big money for him and he is very popular among fans. Surely Woodward knows losing him will be disaster to his popularity (read somewhere that Woodward cares about what social media thinks and all that).

Spurs were interested in Martial since his Monaco days and even last season, don't think we will sell him and also don't think Martial really wants out. Looks like a tactic to put pressure on management. Think Woodward will give him big wages.

Will see how it goes. My gut feeling is both players will remain at their clubs this season.

Spurs will be a serious contender for the title this (next?) season.

Best Striker in the World is staying 100%. Dele Alli barring something out the blue is staying. Most importantly, Pochettino is staying.

New stadium. Money to spend to add to a brilliant squad. I think they'll make an exemplary signing too, maybe our own Martial.

If anyone finishes above them, that team wins the league

Hmm, not sure if serious, but can't say I agree with that assessment. I don't see them investing heavily at all, when you look at a 15m bid for Grealish seems about all that's happening at the moment.

Spurs should invite Sergio Ramos to their opening match against Liverpool and show him on the shiny new big screens throughout the game. Imagine the scousers' anger.
