Because away to City and Southampton is a guranteed 6 points.behind Liverpool by 6 points with 2 games in hand. That basically puts us neck and neck

Well put!I think it's funny reading about how every team fighting for the 4th spot is "terrible", "throwing it away", "doesn't want it", "trash", "painfully average" etc. In fact, it's very likely that the team in 5th will have the highest point total ever to miss out on the Champions League (the record is 72 shared by Everton in 2014 and Spurs in 2013). Teams 3-6 are abnormally good for the Premier League. 70 points is normally a lock for the Top 4, that's might not even get you top 6 this season.
The only difference is the names of the clubs - Manchester United and Liverpool instead of Spurs, Everton, Southampton, etc. The reality is that this is what teams fighting for 4th look like - they throw away points at home seemingly at random, they can't get on long winning streaks or keep momentum and the like. If they could do those things, they'd contend for titles, not for 4 place.
I've lived this song and dance for going on 10 years now. Pretty glad the last few seasons have seen Spurs finally step up one more level and stay slightly above the frustrating mess that is the fight for that last CL spot.
TBF, away games now are more favored in the league than playing at OT... City & Southampton games feel more assured to Chelsea, Swansea, CP gamesBecause away to City and Southampton is a guranteed 6 points.
Next season repeats.Arsenal are going to do it, Wenger will get two more years, the earth will orbit the sun.
Fully expect arsenal to collect minimum 21 points and reach about 75. We have to beat them if we harbor any hope of reaching the top, we all know they peak at this very moment in the season.
Well its arsenal, where did yesterdays performance come since they've looked pathetic for so long? This is what they're good at, flailing about in the early months, then dominating their way to the top 4.75 points is a tall order, they're also still in the FA cup. They have Utd, Spurs, Palace, Everton. Your expecting them to win 7 of their 9 games. They will deserve it if they manage that.

Us and City didn't cover ourselves in glory the last time we were there. If arsenal make the top 4 and city and united miss out ( although we have europa league) it will be a disaster for english teams in the ucl because spurs liverpool and arsenal will be useless in europe.
Us and City didn't cover ourselves in glory the last time we were there.
Very little evidence of that in recent years.Nither did Arsenal Liverpool and spurs, Still manchester clubs are better off in europe than north london clubs or liverpool.
I'm not giving up on top 4 just yet. Time and time again, those in front of us have shown that they are unable to capitalize on points dropped by us. Anyway, we're playing mostly away from home now, which seems to suit us better, and against quite a few teams who won't be parking the bus, which also will suit us better.I think we need to use the league games now to keep players fresh, sharp and give opportunities for players to get into the Europa team as the Europa is our best chance of champions league football. That's not to say it will be easy, it certainly wont be, but it's something that is in our hands and is something I think United are very much capable of doing.
Top 4 just isn't going to happen, we have shown time and time again that we are unable to capitalize on points dropped by those in front of us. Anyone that sits back, we are unable to break down and then even if we do break them down, we have no one outside of Zlatan that you can rely on to score goals regularly.

Only way we make top 4 is by getting results at WHL, Emirates and Etihad. Tough tough ask. Even if it was Chelsea who had these 3 fixtures list, I would have listed Spurs as favourite to overtake them. Jose's record this season against top 6 is very poor but in general he has won big away games many times in his career. Once you add the extra fixtures of EL in the mix, I seriously think we have no shot at top 4 in the league. If we had drawn 3 less games at home, those 6 points could have given us some buffer to lose points later on but it was not to be.
United have a very hard run in as well. As do Liverpool if you think about how they struggle against the bottom half.75 points is a tall order, they're also still in the FA cup. They have Utd, Spurs, Palace, Everton. Your expecting them to win 7 of their 9 games. They will deserve it if they manage that.
How are we still in this?
You missed the point. I was pointing out that even witha HUGE if materialising we would only be chasing Chelsea. If we had won certain matches, we'd be further ahead too. I think every team in the league has ifs. Means nothing if you don't translate it to reality.
I'd be happy if we started scoring just 1 or 2 right now.United should concede top 4 as unattainable?
Sorry, but that is plainly laughable.
We are behind Arsenal on goal difference, and behind Liverpool by 6 points with 2 games in hand. That basically puts us neck and neck, we aren't even trying to close a substantial gap. Even City are at risk now. It will go down to the final day of the season, that's for sure. We should start thrashing teams to bolster our GD. It would be insane to give up at this point. We are still in with a chance of finishing 3rd. All positions from 3-6 are very, very close.
Or you win the EL and Leicester the CL. I'm not sure if we can do it though...Liverpool really need to finish third.
They could end up getting the likes of Seville,Dortmund,Napoli or even PSG(if they finish third in France) in a qualifier.
If that scenario happens, does 3rd place in the league mean you have to play a qualifier? Or is it still automatic qualification?Or you win the EL and Leicester the CL. I'm not sure if we can do it though...

Coutinho a doubt for the weekend against Stoke too. Without both of them in the 2nd half against Bournemouth they drew 2-2 so chance they could falterhttp://www.skysports.com/football/n...and-miss-rest-of-the-season-says-jurgen-klopp
mane out for the rest of the season. Big blow to Liverpool.
I consider this to be unlikely although not impossible.Liverpool really need to finish third.

If they finish 4th, Liverpool would need to play the last round of qualifications (play-offs) which is seeded - 20 teams = 2 groups of 10 teams.
Although Pool's UEFA coefficient isn't great (34th), most of the teams above them will either directly qualify (e.g. Bayern, Chelsea) or not at all (e.g. Schalke, Leverkusen).
In other words:
To play against any of the team you suggested, there must be at least 10 teams with a higher UEFA coefficient than Pool. That's not impossible but unlikely.
Last but not least: In a clash over two games, everything is possible. Pool knocked us out last season, they can do it again against any of the teams you mentioned.
Would need to check but as I remember it, the Champions and the other section are relevant in the first rounds qualifications (1st to 3rd round to be exact) only and fuse in the play offs (qualification round 4). I'll check.Have they changed the format?
I think it's only 5.
The last few years the 4th qualifying round has two separate parts. The Champions section and non Champions section.
Anyone thought they would win the league last season? I meant even into February where they're very catchable. Nothing is impossible in football. Of course this is just unlikely.Leicester won't win the CL ffs, stop discussing that impossible scenario.
