Top 4 race 2016/17

Could do with Arsenal winning, knock Spurs out of the race and they'll all go on holiday.

During this unbeaten run:

We've dropped points on game weeks: 10, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 26, 28, 29, 33 and 34

And in comparison to:

City: 11, 14, 15, 19, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, 33 and 34
Liverpool: 12, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 29, 31, 33

By losing to Crystal Palace Liverpool have secured that third spot now and can open up a lead on it. Crazy league! The only thing remaining this gameweek is for Liverpool to drop points tomorrow, otherwise they're just party poopers.

Big winner this weekend are Liverpool, expecting to be 5th when all games were caught up but still 3rd.

We've won feck all until 3 points are on the board.

Yeah but its back in your hands at least for now. Can't think you'd of thought that at 12 this morning. Best set of results possible for you guys.

I kinda did, honestly. I said Arsenal were out of the top 4 race more than a month ago, and United's injury troubles & fixture congestion was always going to slow them down.

Still, we'll feck it up. That's why I said earlier today that the race isn't over.

So, a Watford win tomorrow and it's as you were...

Ridiculous couple of results.

Spurs are now mathematically certain of a top 4 finish unless we lose all of our remaining games + United win all of theirs + a huge GD swing occurs. Nearly time to call in the bet I made

As for the two other top 4 places, my money is still on City and Liverpool.

Not beating a team 17th in the table at home is a missed opportunity in making up ground, as usually the opposition keeper would have won the points for them, however Swansea were simply better and we were lucky to get a point, so in that regard cannot have too much complaints today, even if everyone around us are dropping points..

So you're not mathematically certain at all then :smirk:

We've won only 3 more than we've drawn this season. Terrible form.

From the remaining 4 matches, I don't think we'll got more than 7 points by any means, which simply won't be enough.

Liverpool and City are horrible but we'll give them top 4 with pleasure.

Well if the first two happen, the 3rd part is something of a given no?

Well, no. The current GD is +23 to Spurs. So we could lose all of our remaining games by 1 goal, and United win all theirs by 1 goal, but Spurs would still finish ahead by virtue of a +15 GD.

Even if lose all of them by 2 goals and United win all of theirs by 2 goals, the GD would still be +7 in Spurs favour.

I still don't see how anybody can say that top 4 is over or has been over since a certain date etc?

3rd-5th is 1 point. 3rd-6th is 6 (with a game in hand for 6th).

I appreciate the argument about strength of opposition etc that you have left but there is still so much potential movement left in the remaining 4 games for each club.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Man Utd finish either 3rd with a EL trophy too or 5th without it. But I can't see how you'd say either definitively (though I struggle to see you not winning the EL tbh).

It's amazing how so many people think Liverpool are just going to turn on the form in the last 4 games when they haven't strung 3 wins in a row together since 2016. They are just as likely to mess it up as we are.

So now it's Liverpool 66 pts (+28 ), City 66 pts (+28), Utd 65 pts (+26) with each side have only 4 games left

Liverpool will play Watford (A), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) and Boro (H)

City will play Palace (H), Leicester (H), West Brom (H) and Watford (A)

United will play Arsenal (A), Spurs (A), Southampton (A) and Palace (H)

For us to finish top4, Liverpool and/or City will have to do worse than us in the 4 remaining games. Which is next to impossible.

We'll get 7 points max from our 4 remaining games

Just 3 defeats.

But if we only managed to win at least 2 or 3 out of our draws we'd be 3rd.

Frustrating as hell.

Sign of champion is not about getting wins against top 4.

It's getting ruthless when we smell blood. Today's a good example of when fergie team capitulate by beating smaller team to take advantage.

At the end of the day 3pts is 3pts.

But somehow we seemed to have a mental block, whenever we had the chance to move up the table we tend to draw.

One of the worst "races" I've ever seen, everyone's running sideways.

Turn half those draws into wins and the other half into losses and we'd be comfortably 3rd with 72 points despite having 10 losses.

Worst unbeaten run ever.

It's not the worst and it's not the first. :)
But it could have been so much better. I only hope we can build on this run and win more next year with losing as few as this year.

We did that last season
Not so much winning at Goodison, but doing it at the critical end of a season and doing it when Everton look very good at home. That's why it's impressive.

Capitalised?

Moyes' teams capitulated

Absolute game over for United now, our run is absolutely horrendous, there's no way City/Liverpool are dropping more points than us.

Three straight wins in 8 days for CFC against Spurs eight consecutive wins - this is some psychological battle between Conte and Poch which makes it exciting for the neutrals.

On paper CFC have the easier run in yet their next opponents just drew with City and Arsenal who were expected to give Spurs a challenge just caved in.

As you Utd chaps know even without the Europa you still have the possibility of 4th spot through the league alone.

Conclusion, it's all still to play for!

Why do opposition fans think were not in form ?.
LAST 10 GAMES

Won 6
Drawn 2
Lost 2

Including wins over Spurs. Arsenal and Everton and a draw with City, also including 3 wins out of the 4 games against the lesser teams, 2 away,

This may not be title winning form but were far from out of form plus we have players coming back from injury this week.
