UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

'It's that building, the white building that's on fire.'

You mean the only building on fire on camera? Jesus, give this man some crayons and sit him down somewhere away from the microphone.

He's talking about the fire like it's a good thing. Marvelling at it.

I'm sure he's being told to dramatize it as much as possible.

Man with stick: "This is Turkish Kurdish area. They come to our shops and we fight them with sticks." #hackney

"Turkish and Asian people coming out on the streets to defend their shops and community in Green Lanes, apparently have told the police to use their forces elsewhere. That's the bollocks"

"Just got off the phone from my cousin in Whitechapel. About 400-450 Asian boys battered and chased 150-200 looters out"

A friend living in London has been invited along for 'vigilante action'.

Matthew Moore - Truly extraordinary speech by fearless West Indian woman in face of #Hackney rioters. Pls watch - Twitvid

This is absolutely pathetic.

I dont agree with vigilante action , it can cause more problems , but I can see why it is happening

no surprise, more and more people will do so especially if temples are being attacked!

For those that want more police action and powers, there have apparently been "333 deaths in police custody since 1998 and never a single conviction"

The reeves guy from the furniture shop was on the phone to sky earleir and had a go about the fact their reporter described the fire as a spectacle, which he found quite dissrespectful

Right, so...is it still safe to go to London Victoria tomorrow morning given that these spastics just seem intent on fecking everything up regardless of whether it achieves anything?

Get the fecking army in. Christ.

Just reading though the minute by minute reports on the BBC and it's like V for Vendetta, without any of the eloquence or cause.

Just too many angry people using this opportunity to get violent and greedy.

Does that make it okay to loot innocent businesses and set people cars and homes on fire?

You should have seen the BBC reporter on the phone to the same guy, he was asking him what he was going to do with his staff and ramming it down his throat that he had just lost his business.

'Oh, it's been around a long time hasn't it? You had staff as well didn't you? What will you do with them?' He asked at one point 'did they steal anything?' and the guy replied 'well considering we sell 3 piece suites I doubt that they were carrying those out on their heads otherwise I'd have noticed them.'

Like I said before, when he mentioned he was stood outside as they spoke I half expected him to ask him to look up and give the camera a wave for BBC.

with all due respect , wrong time and wrong thread

Why? Because people are angry enough to say the army should come in and shoot these people? I've said the police need to step up and take it to the next level, and these people are complete fecktards (a word I never used before redcafe)

But I'm just saying, the repercussions of sending the Army in may be felt in 20 years time.

Of course not. Don't confuse me, these people are fecking twats. I want more police not (massively) more aggressive police.

Most of them aren't old enough to vote. They just want the latest mobile phones and plasma TVs.

I blame Mike.

I really don't think a lot of the youn rioters are concerned about any of that. They're more interested in free stuff and the thrill of wrecking things.

Point taken, gentlemen. Allow me to rephrase then, if you will. In a happy society where people care about their community, would you see this many youths crapping on their own doorsteps?

Clearly my generation has been disaffected by something. I'm not trying to condone the riots - particularly not this mindless violence. What I am trying to point out is that this'll be blamed on the incentive to be lawless (electronics are pretty cool) as opposed to the real reasons. Personally I feel strongly about the current deputy PM having lied to us. Others will be angry about the way they police treat them. Others will be frustrated because there is seemingly no future for us right now.

Again, another angle. If this is owing to boredom, how is that the fault of the rioters? Surely it's the job of an efficient economy to keep them active? How can so many young people be bored simultaneously?

There are pertinent questions at the root of this but they'll all be glossed over, as they were during the tuition fee protests.

Finally, don't get me wrong, the free stuff would definitely be an incentive to loot but you'd have to be seriously messed in the head to go setting the homes of innocents on fire. Why are people my age that messed up?

I hope you guys can see my point here. The violence and criminal behaviour is disgusting and instead of just trying to brush it off and move on, we should look into why this is happening.

Apparently theyre heading to acton now. Thats where i live ffs :(

Not to sound funny or anything but I'm well surprised Ealing went mad before Acton.

These kids are not angry they are feral inner city animals - cull them.

Why , because people are angry and say things they dont really mean.
Nobody wants the Army to walk the street shooting looters.
But the Army walking the streets and maybe bringing some calm would not be a bad idea.
To be honest the repercussions of the past 3 days will be with us for the next 20 years

True, and I know. I'm just saying the counter argument because people have been saying about how the police have been culled of their ability to do anything.

If this was happening in Moscow, we'd say the World Cup shouldn't be held there.

Off to bed, I really hope this calms down tomorrow. Safe and peaceful night to all!
