United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Does he have a piece, though? That is an important question, given our club's history of hair.

I mean a hair piece, yes.
No syrup, his hair was weird when he was young.

 That interview is incredible. He called us the biggest club in the world, verbally attacked a journalist, ridiculed another into submission and received an apology for doing so, gave death stares, stated he wants to be our new boss, and all but confirmed he's on his way. All in the space of 2 minutes.

Christ on a bike, this guy's intense.

Did anyone else read that he's not actually called Louis - his actual first names are Aloysius Paulus Maria.

i wonder if he was considered last year at all. its starting to feel very right, and i was not immediately warm to the idea

Yes his full name is epic, just like his reign at Old Trafford will hopefully be.

Here is another perspective of that infamous "stupid question" remark by Van Gaal, and no, it was not filmed by a potato.

EDIT: Look at his eyes, they stare into your soul and rip your heart out.

Not really reading much about the media or anything behind this. But how fecking dumb are these journo's these days. Pestering people that can't answer questions into getting some sort of sound bite. Completely ridiculous and telling them in blunt terms that they are dickheads and to buzz off.

It must be infuriating to have to watch your words in matters such as this. Knowing that anything misconstrued will become a major headline/talking point with no way to set the record stright. Buzzards the lot of them.

Those questions were so inane it was horrendous to watch.

I'm not convinced about Van Gaal though at all. I reckon this swashbuckling autocrat with zero PL experience and a history of falling out with players is really set up for failure.

That's not to say it will be a disaster - it might work great. But it's hardly certain.

The funniest part was after claiming he knew everything about United but he didn't know what Carrington was. Still was a class interview. Looking forward to him standing on the touch line next season.

I'm a little confused over the clubs stance re not announcing it until after Sunday, Everyman and his dog know he's the next United manager, unless we are holding out to see what happens with Madrid/Ancelotti and Dortmund/Klopp.

Just hope we don't go full City/Chelsea.

Spending 100-150 mil is standard.
1-2 British players in squad max.

I've always been proud of the way the club's operated I wouldn't be "proud" of what Chelsea and City do.

At least we can then look forward to some hilarious Geoff Shreeves interviews :D

I don't know that he's the next United manager. The club haven't announced it yet.. Every man and his dog 'thinks' he is. Because football fans have developed some bizarre obsession with scrounging every piece of information available then making a bold presumption without really knowing anything at all.

It will be interesting to see what happens though, especially with his pedigree. I agree with alastair above that it could be another bit of a 'roll the dice' appointment in the other direction.

What Van Gaal and Fergie do is unsurprising.

In the period of time they were there, their words twisted and were falsy quoted

I would the same.

I think that's exactly the personality we need right now. A Mourinho, Van Gaal etc. who won't take any shit.

Take him over anyone except Klopp right now, who isn't a sure thing either. He ended up falling out at Barca and Bayern, but look at the strides they've made as a result - and they both give him huge credit. Just before he joined, Uli Hoeness said that 'Bayern will always play a flat 4-4-2 system with two strong CFs' - look at them now.

This guy is badass,

I like how he didn't wait to use the "biggest club in the world" line. A nice response to Ancelotti using that line for his club when he talked about the United job.

He is not going to take shit from the press. This is the kind of personality that needs to be managing our club. Our club is not for nice guys.

There's no way he has that interview and says what he said if he's not 99% certain he's got the job. 2 weeks a go I wasn't certain but now I'd put money on him being at United next season (if the odds weren't shit).

I can understand some of the trepidation about his appointment, but in all honesty I think the only worries will from some players; the fringe players and Rooney mainly. I don't see him being a gamble, he's the sort of manager we should have looked at last season rather than the romantic experiment we saw play out this year. He's of a handful of managers who has the confidence not to phased by the magnitude of the job.

Ancelotti only called Real "the best club in the world", which is relatively evasive and ambiguous.

But I agree that it's a big thing that van Gaal called United the "biggest club in the world". The fact that he's already peddling the party line is significant, imo. Considering he's worked for Barca and Bayern, he wouldn't be saying something so definitive unless he had the United job in the bag.

I'm excited. It might go completely tits up again but it'll be worth the risk after having to endure 10 months of Moyes.

I can't tell if van Gaal was being clever with Carrington or he didn't really know. No big thing.

Does he get into rumbles with opposition managers? Mourinho is safe because they are close friends, but I wonder if he'll get into it with the others?

So if Schteve went there and tried a Dutch accent, does it mean LVG will try a Manc accent.

What cracks me up is Gary "sorry" Cotterill laughing at the Beeb reporter getting it. Like a schoolboy watching a mate get busted by teacher.

He did so well till the end where he didn't know what fecking Carrington was. Still my choice to take over unless we can get our hands on one of the fab five.
