True. For a manager with such a big reputation and of his quality, it is a poor record. Although he was in Italy during the time of the scandal.

Very good point too, even though it is not much of an excuse as Milan were busted for cheating as well during Ancelotti's term there! I like him by the way, just think the hype of him has gone beyond insanity since the Bayern match. Suddenly his reputation exploded way beyond reality and facts. He is one of the very finest cup managers out there but still not quite a league manager one would want for an absolute top team.

When Atletico and Barcelona dropped points and left everything in RM's hands they went out and drew two. Really is history repeating itself for Ancelotti who constantly comes top 5 but never go all the way.

Winning Leagues is the toughest thing a manager can do. That is why Fergie so magnificent. David Moyes almost lucked his way into the semifinals of the CL this season(with all the chaos). That is why I do not value CL titles over league titles when rating a manager. The League is the true test.

P.S Bayern winning the league this season does not count. Mr. Bean could have won the Bundesliga with this Bayern side, while taking a nap during every match.

I agree. The league is the real priority every year and the CL is always a big lottery.

I suppose you could also say that he has worked with poor owners a lot in his career too. I heard at Milan that Berlusconi used to tell him who and how to play at times which would never be a good situation to be in as manager. If you lose you get the blame and if you say the owner picked the team it makes you look like a weak man. At Chelsea too things were going great until Wilkins was sacked. Chelsea were flying in the league and were hammering a lot of teams and when Wilkins was sacked the team seemed to lose its way completely. If he does win the cl then he will be in a unique situation where he is the only person with three cls but also has relatively few league titles. It would be hard for anyone to question him then but he would then be the most sought after coach for teams that are desperate for the cl.

Very good summary mate, perfect fit for RM at the moment who are hunting that tenth.

Bit of a misleading YouTube title to say he 'lost his temper'. He was clearly annoyed but handled it quite dignified. Reminds me of a few "angry" SAF interviews where he just ends the interview respectfully.

This was actually a joke. They were acting.

He did a good job.

Aye, just got this wall post from @Kanu in the newbies (interesting username);

Hi, I'm in the newbies and can't reply on the main forums, but could you inform the people in the LVG thread that the Youtube vid of him "losing his temper" isn't real? It was just a publicity stunt and it annoys me that people think it's real.

Hope it's okay to post comments from newbies. inb4 ban ... sorry Kanu for not realising it was a joke.

One of the most ridiculous and hilarious things about Van Gaal is that he wrote actual poems and read them dead serious at a press conference (not ironic like Cantona's seagul metaphor), it was his way of communicating how he felt about a new job.

I believe he did it when he became Holland national team coach in 2000 and also at Ajax when he returned as a Director of Football in 2004. Tears in my eyes laughing everytime I see it, although you might have to speak Dutch to fully comprehend how ridiculous it is.

Van Gaal The Poem

Translation:

Here, at Ajax, lays my heart
A club, fascinating, always apart (different)
Called by many, God's sons
For me, the cradle of football icons
My memories go back to 'De Meer' (old stadium of Ajax)
There also was a special atmosphere

I'm going to follow my feelings now
And will be DoF in the Arena somehow
In my life-phase this is a new chance
And my old love gets an extra stimulance
That's why from my mouth it will convincingly sound:
Today, the circle really is round (things have come toghether)

Liverpool fans/RAWK would've loved him! :nervous:

Just the sort of character we need to boss the dressing room.

Hopefully he'll get us playing some progressive football again.

I do wonder how Rooney will take to him though. There's no way RVP isn't going to be the spearhead in a LVG side.

I really wonder what the Dutch people think about Van Gaal. I have seen quite a bit of hate towards him from Dutch people on the internet. Even one of the comments on that youtube video of his interview is from a Dutch guy who says that we should not return Van Gaal to them!

Huh? We all think Van Gaal is absolutely brilliant and most likely our best trainer ever. I absolutely loved him since i was a child. But its his press conferences which gives him so much negativity. I find them hilarious, because 99% of the time its spot on. He just says what he really thinks.

If a journalist asks him "so who will win the world cup?" he answers with "Why do you ask such stupid questions? How could i know?".

And maybe old Feyenoord/PSV supporters dislike Van Gaal due his Ajax career..

But nope most find him fantastic.

He's completely bat shit crazy ain't he? I love him already.

As an aside, I found it absolutely hilarious that he couldn't just say 'world cup' in that interview  He kept saying things like world championships or world league. Brilliant.

World Championship Cup League was it?

SSN have a reporter standing outside OT where they know nothing is happening.
haha... we are united, we do what we want. Even it's the close of season and we are getting no trophy, we still are the focus of the media.

I cant wait for the imminent VG vs Mourinho spat.

Is it just me?

That's the typical 'diverting the limelight on others' sort of interview which allowed the manager to slip away from discussing his club matters by pointing the fingers on trivial things. I can't believe that the journalist fell for it.

Like others have said, I love him already. Obviously takes no shit whatsoever - he's just what we need.

Gonna be the perfect Klopp-gap till someone more permanent becomes available in a few years.

Robin van Persie is confident of a much-improved campaign for United in 2014/15. "I'm sure we will compete again next year," said the Dutch striker. "We'll be back, trust me, we will be back."

LvG confirmed

Why's that? They are great friends.
That tends to go out of the window sometimes in competitive situations.

It's actually interesting that many people here used to think FSW and Mancini were nice chaps before they started competing with us and their managers started saying the stuff you do when you're competing (and more in the case of FSW and without the competing).

Why's that? They are great friends.

They are both bad losers with big egos and who just love mind games. SAF and Mourinho respected each other but that didn't stop them from having a fight every now and then. I am sure that we will see fireworks.

Not sure mourinho would like to rub LVG the wrong way, mourinho as it is has a good relationship with him and has always been respectful towards united. Also LVG is one guy that can give it back and then some in a way which will eclipse even Jose.
