Brilliant, thanks

Lots of second guessing here so I'll join in. We've made the offer, there's no dithering, just LVG taking his time to let us know his decision. He knows we want him and have few other options at this stage and is taking the opportunity here to let us know who we are dealing with. I think that a lot of this talk of him just being some kind of interim fix is enormously disrespectful and that this is him setting his stall out.

Either that or he's in a room, right now, with Woodward. He's barring the door and his bollocks are out and they're not going back into his Dutch y fronts until we give him a 4 year deal.

It's a little strange that Mark Ogden (who is considered pretty reliable) got it wrong, saying it would be yesterday/today.

He wasn't the only one who said it. A reporter is only as good as his sources. I think the club briefed a few journalists that the appointment would be made right after Hull and for some reason it has changed. Could be nothing more than a delay in order to do it after the season ends, for whatever reason.

Hopefully Woodward isn't waiting for the CL final to see if afterwards he can convince Simeone or Ancelotti!

Make an announcement already FFS!

This is the bit that interests me. Clearly what you said is right, but what is this reason? It goes against what LVG said he wanted, it goes against what the club were obviously telling journalists they would do, so why did they change their minds?

There must still some sticking point that needs to be finalised. Not something that is going to derail the process necessarily, but something that havent been able to agree on yet.

I think it's a done deal. I can see the reasons why the club wants to wait untill the season is over before announcing LVG as the new boss.

I'm almost certain he will have spoke to Woodward about transfer targets. Just up to Woodward to deliever on these transfer targets.

Maybe the club wants to make a double announcement, announce LVG and a signing. It wouldn't surprise me if we announced the signing of Luke Shaw and LVG, this could explain the delay as Southampton don't want United to announce Shaw before the end of the season.

Perhaps they want to announce whats happening with Rio evra giggs and the coaching staff at the same time and its taking longer than expected to finalise things?

Yes, I was speculating about possible reasons this morning and that seemed the most likely one to me - specifically Giggs, because what the players decide shouldnt have too much bearing on anything. Once Van Gaal is announced the first questions are going to be about the rest of his management team so maybe they are waiting for a decision from Giggs on that before they announce it.

Negotiating a position for Giggs is the most likely reason, I think. Just hope we don't fall between the proverbial stools if this is the case. Let LVG decide if he wants Giggs and co and in what positions.

Rooney said after penning a new deal that it was 'done a long time ago'. The interviewer was asking him if he was relieved to finally put an end to all the speculation.

I know it's frustrating to follow these things from the outside, but we have to stop being so solipsistic about it. I'd be surprised if Van Gaal cared about the media narrative or how impatient we are.

It could be that this too was done a long time ago, and the official confirmation is delayed because of a triviality.

I'm impatient so they better have a good reason for this delay
is a bit infantile.

I think this too, Giggs said in his presser he isn't sure if he wants to play another year, if he wants to be a coach or manage somewhere else.

Van Gaal is probably a done deal, they probably want the Assistant manager(s) sorted out, Kluivert and Blind are not going to be his assistants it was reported, so I would guess it is the appointment of the assistant(s) manager(s) that is the only thing holding up the official announcement.

Sky Sports' Gary Cotterill, reporting from the Dutch training camp believes it could be the middle of next week until Van Gaal's future becomes clearer - and understands United are not his only suitors.

"My sources from here in the Netherlands say it's quite correct that there will be no announcement this side of the weekend regarding Louis van Gaal going to Manchester United," Cotterill said.

"There won't be any announcement on Monday, nor - by my understanding - on Tuesday. The earliest any announcement will come is Wednesday.

"I also understand that no deal has been done, despite reports. Other clubs do remain in the running to sign him up after he finishes on Netherlands duty after the World Cup - both in the Premier League and inernationally

Absolutely rubbish. He's on record as saying he only wants to work in the Prem otherwise he's retiring. The Prem is the only thing left to go on his CV.

Only other club that would be in for him in the PL would be Spurs, and that's a no contest. It's a done deal. Sky just trying to keep people glued to their channel.

I will be absolutely furious if Giggs gets the job! I also read Giggs said a couple of days ago that United shouldn't hurry to appoint a manager :wenger:

Its 100% van gaal. We are waiting till end of the season.

Don't know why some still think this is in doubt....its only ever been van gaal! Ignore all the Woodward PR nonsense of other names being mentioned, he's been after one man all along.

Sky and their reporters don't have a clue what's going on. They're always hours/days behind actual journos.

I think they're just waiting until the end of the season so that it's not like disrespectful to giggs, even though it's not a huge deal. Just when it's official someone else is taking over its a different feeling with giggs there still. My take on it at least.

Oh FFS. We are going to cock this up aren't we.

Thiago-esque.

We will end up with Fat Sam.

Talksport are now reporting that the deal is done, will be announced after the end of the season and that Giggs will be part of the coaching staff.

Ogden also confirms on the Telegraph website that van Gaal will be announced next week.

Useless.

They whole channel is just an advertisement of what they are showing live.

Just got that faggot James Cooper literally dribbling what other top reporters have said.

People still use that word? Wow

You're right though in that SSN is just a promotional tool for their live sports rights.

Hopefully it means the deal is close to being agreed or has already been agreed.

Louis van Gaal charm offensive commences. Forget blowing smoke up my arse, just do it on the pitch, you head-the-ball, and you'll be A-OK in my book.

he doesn't need a charm offensive though, we're bent over, lubed up with 'Welcome Louis' shaved in our back hairs in Dutch.

What has Moyes done to us :(

I think even if van Gaal (is it a small "v" or not? Confused) had been appointed last year, some people would have been excited. I just hope he's not past it and there's more heartache down the line...

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt he's not homophobic and just blurted out something (if you can do that by typing) without thinking. The bluntness is what got me.

Yeah fair enough.

On topic: I wonder if they'll be a video of this interview?
