United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

It doesn't seem like a done deal, i think it's very close, but not as the papers make it out to be.

I'm not worried though, he wants to come and he has no better options, if we want him we'll get him, if for some reason we changed our opinion, then it means we've got ourselves one of the top guns.

The sooner he comes in to rebuild us the better. We need a complete tactical overhaul as well as about 4 new midfielders with all the current ones leaving.

This is what people said when he was the first to tell us Vidic was joining Inter.

 He has got some right indeed. He does throw a lot of shit and hopes it sticks though.

This will be done tomorrow it seems. Nothing official though just a few on twitter. One of the telegraph articles said it was imminent too. I know they said they same last week but with the season over there's no reason to hang around.

I'll decide within the next week. I think the managerial situation will be sorted out in the next week. [I'll] think of my own position and decide what I am going to do.

Goes with what the journalist have been saying. Announcement next week.

Any idea how reliable Sunday Times is? This would be my ultimate perfect scenario. Not so much because I'm dutch, but because after the world cup there is very little time to prepare. We need someone who knows the club, the league and the players very well, like Renee. And Van Gaals English and knowledge of United and the PL is alright, but he's got a lot of things coming for him taking over with so little time, Renee would be a perfect assistant to him, help him get settled and organize everthing.

But I was afraid Van Gaal would be to stubborn and wanting to 'invent the wheel himself', which he sort of tends to like to do, so if he would choose Renee it would surprise me, but it would also be his best move possible.

I'm not sure about Jonathan Northcroft, James Ducker usually reports on United and most of the time he's spot on, but I doubt they would run a story like this based on nothing.

Sounds very good then, hope too see Renee and Giggs on our coaching staff next season.

The Shaw bid and Cole's international retirement has already overshadowed City's title win so van Gaal can hold off a couple of days.

Add to it the fact that the media was all rooting for Liverpool to win the title, they will not mind reporting other news if they can.

There can only be two reasons why they are delaying the announcement. Firstly they are waiting for Giggs to make up his mind what he wants to do

Renee would be brilliant as LVG's number two, if he's prepared to accept it. However this is all about how best to fit Giggs in. If he decides he would like to be number two then I suspect the club will insist upon it happening. That means that Giggs is already the chosen one for the next succession in three years. Oddly I don't think LVG will mind although I'm not sure picking someone so unproven and virtually rejecting other potential candidates so far in advance may not be in the clubs best interests long term. Anyway, for goodness sake, get this appointment done so that the task of getting United back to the top can begin.

“People say he is so ambitious and demanding that he keeps setting new tasks and pushes the envelope further. Invariably, people become exhausted, the team slows down and after year two or three things go down altogether like at Barcelona and Bayern."

Pretty interesting point from Maarten Meijer.

 Tancredi is not fecking reliable.

There are a load of Van Gaal quotes in that article, but I can't seem to link directly to it to post them, worth a look definitely, unless someone can post a link directly to them?

“He says, ‘I have a philosophy that has to be applied,’” adds Meijer. “Some people say he’s overbearing, but he’s rational about it. He says that’s the way he works – it’s the only way he knows how to be successful. If someone doesn’t fit the system they have to go. It’s not personal.

“He has an almost uncanny perception of people’s abilities – recognising their strong points.

“He’s a genius in that way. He looks and sees this guy can do this, this guy is in the wrong position and has to go there.

He is phenomenal in this. That is why I think all that talk about possible formations etc. is so premature. There will be a lot of surprises.

What kind of surprises are we in for? Players sold or formations?

It certainly sounds like there could be a big shake up - even more so than many people were expecting.

I'm very interested to see how he rates our youngsters and whether some of them jump ahead of the current first team in terms of making a particular position their own.

Really don't get why we are stalling in the announcement, just bloody get him in so we can concentrate in transfers and the World Cup.
The season is over, get it done

The longer it goes on, the more worrying it gets. I don't understand the reason behind the delay. Is it something to do with the stock market or just an issue with contract negotiations?.

Does anyone know when Holland get together for the WC camp??

Feck the stock market! Just sign the guy and allow him to bring whoever he needs already!!!

I feel a sudden urge to shout out loud "Typical dithering United". Seriously, it feels as bad as it was in the days with Kenyon () as chief executive.

didnt Val Gal say that the deadline he set was Wednesday? Its the day he starts pre WC camp with domestic players.

Ryan Giggs set to remain at Man United as Louis van Gaal says he'll keep one coach

The chances of Ryan Giggs being offered a prominent role by incoming Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal have increased after the Dutch veteran revealed how he likes to retain one member of the staff at each club he joins.

Giggs oversaw his final game as United interim manager on Sunday as his team drew 1-1 at Southampton. Now he must wait to see what, if anything, he is offered by Van Gaal when the current Dutch national coach’s position at United is confirmed later this week.

But in outlining his existing philosophies, Van Gaal has offered some hope to Giggs.

Asked who was behind the development of Thomas Muller at Bayern Munich, Van Gaal said: 'When I go to a new club, I always want to keep one coach from the existing staff.

'At Bayern that person was Herman Kerland, who is still working there now under Pep Guardiola.

'I wanted to know who was coming through the youth system. I always want to know that.

'He is the man who said to me: ‘Muller, Badstuber and Alaba. These are the players.’

'So I let them train with the first team, I observed them – and then I decided where they were going to play.'

Van Gaal is currently in Holland preparing the Dutch team for a friendly with Ecuador this weekend.

Former Dutch defender Ronald Koeman spoke about how he expects Van Gaal's Holland to line up at the World Cup with a 3-5-2 formation, which could provide a clue as to how United could play next season.

Speaking to NOS.nl, Koeman described how the system works: 'Three central defenders, your line is high, there are two midfielders who play for the defence, a real number ten and two strikers up front.

'You can really put your full backs forward. They can play really deep. And there are always two strikers in front of the goal

'Moreover, you can play with a real number ten and you always have three defenders. This can also be very important in Brazil.'

He is set to be named as United manager on this week as the Dutch have a gap in their schedule, but he will not hold a press conference at Old Trafford.

Perhaps no room for Scholesy?

You'd be mad to turn down the opportunity to have Scholesy as part of your coaching team surely? Even if it's just for the Under 21's.

Im not worried about this, just impatient. There has to be a reason for the delay but I dont necessarily think it is a problem that is going to derail the deal, I just think they are finalising details, probably relating to his backroom staff. I hope the deal comes today or tomorrow, but it seems like he wants to come and we want to have him, so Im sure itll happen. Hopefully the details will be ironed out, I think this will be announced today or tomorrow.
