United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Van Persie is probably the only genuine (based on merit, and not hype) outfield star player left besides Mata. Plus the fact Van Gaal will never pick Rooney over him to lead the line weighs into the decision.

Oh dear.

Van Persie's schexier anyway regardless of ability, performance and all that other nonsense. Van Gaal's Silver Fox captain fantastic.

I love how some posters are like 'hmm don't fancy Robben'... a) he's one the world's greatest footballers just below Messi Ronaldo in terms of quality, and b) like he'd want to leave a team like Bayern to a team which isn't in the champions league.

He'd want to if we gave him a nice contract at the age of 30, which would be a mistake in my opinion.

The hint being they're airing the friendly between Holland and Ecuador.

Which does seem a little strange I must admit.

If we fail to sign Van Gaal, it'll be much worse than the Herrera situation last summer.

Aye - Ogden, Ladyman, Ducker and Taylor. They've been right about a lot this season. Not to mention Mitten, but I suppose he works in a different way.

And yes, some of this stuff almost smell like briefings more than leaks. This last thing, though, is surely not a briefing - if it's even true, that is.

What's the point in being more open with the press, when the public still have no idea what had come from the club and what is made up?

If he wants to be more open, then the only way he can do it is by talking directly, on the record. If the club wants the fans to know something, just say it!

When was the last time MUTV aired an international game - let alone a game without even England playing. Not to forget, it's not even in England.

This is the unveiling lads. Remember who got the first images of Mata when he first arrived? MUTV.

This is it. After the game- Van Gaal and Woody shake hands.

More of a Showgirls Elizabeth Berkley fan myself! :)

Tough choice! I quite like the blonde that is in both movies (plays a dancer in both, don't know her name).

Don't think I ever remember them doing that.

Sorry, but much as I think Rooney is a dick who doesn't deserve the captain on any moral basis, from a purely footballing point of view the above is bollocks. Of course Rooney is a genuine star player, and he did add much or more for the team this season, taking into account birth players' injuries. Not only that, but the way his attitude on the pitch and style of play make him much more suitable captain material, compared to the talkative aloof RVP.
There are good reasons not to want him to be captain, so let's not make up silly ones.

To be fair it wasn't really the fact we didn't sign him that created such a hoopla. It was the whole Ballbag 'impostor' story which made it absolutely ridiculous.

It's not actually listed on mutv...?

I remember seeing Olympiakos vs Panathonikos earlier this season live but thats it. No internationals etc.

This is pretty much it. Expect a MUTV interview and all that....

This is done bar the announcement, not worried about it. More worried about our potential transfers.

Cyprus - Northern Ireland in March

the V in van isn't capitalised because it's Dutch for 'of' or 'from' so really it's Louis of Gaal or Louis from Gaal and Edwin van der Saar is Edwin the Saar.

Edwin the Saar, what a brilliant name!

Would RvP be Robin the Persie then? What about Ruud the Nistelrooy?

Exactly. Persie is actually Persia in English. It's an old historical empire. So it would be Robin of Persia.

Sar is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning Pain so it would be Edwin the Pain haha.

Edwin the Pain makes him sound like a village idiot who annoys everyone. Robin of Persia however...

Absolutely. In fairness, though, we don't know if Woody is purposely leaking info to the press - it just, sort of, looks like it at times. If he is - well, it's a very strange form of "openness" indeed.

It's not just about informing the public though, is it? It's about establishing a good relationship with the press so you get some leverage over the slant they take on certain stories.
