Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

I was playing football with some lads from Mobberley recently who were saying he's regularly in one of two pubs around Prestwich and loves a cig with his pint too.

TBH he's been doing it since he started playing, why would he change now?

The club being fully aware of his lifestyle, makes the contract they gave him even more unforgivable.
And it seems to be a theme with him. Heard numerous rumours from the guys who live around those areas saying it's not the first time and won't be the last.

The fact he looks like a hobo disgusts me as well, if youve got that much cash you should look at least presentable, he cant even do that.

Easy call for southgate

Massive call for Jose.

What a total disgrace. He needs some Gordon Ramsay treatment from Kictchen nightmares. Deluded and in complete denial

I wasnt sticking up for Rooney at all. In fact I have said on many threads this should be his last season here. I was just pointing out a fact.
Looking at it, if your drunk on a saturday, how does that affect you 3 days later? Maybe he was injured, maybe Southgate didnt pick him, and used the injury so he wouldnt be asked loads of questions why he wasnt picked. No one knows but Southgate, Rooney and their entourages.

Professionals should not be drinking 3 days before a game.

Why is this a surprise to anyone though? Rooney has never looked after himself, its the main reason ive always disliked him. He's a chav who was lucky enough to be good at football, he's never been a proffesional.

I know but the point I'm making is the drinking bit is either just an excuse not to pick him or he really was injured . Cahill still played last night, and he was drinking at the wedding apparantly.

It's not about Rooney only though. I don't think Wilshere being caught having a smoke once in a while should have the kind of backlash it does either.

Damn girl you rim harder than Rimaldo. Wake up and smell the beer you daft twat.. Rooney is a fat drunken has been and it is a disgrace that he still features for Manchester United. He doesn't deserve to break the goalscoring record for this club because the truth is he hasn't merited wearing the shirt for close to 4 years.

Lord knows how this swine has managed to manipulate club and country to the extent where even stories like this are hushed hushed by the management when the guy is clearly taking the piss by being on the piss.. in the middle of some important fixtures for England and United.

You seriously cannot be a United fan.

This. He's come back from the off season every year looking unfit and notoriously takes several weeks of continuous play to get fit after the off season or any injury.

Yes he likely was injured, but getting drunk does not help with the injury. Is he going to be sat at home or the pub every night drinking, because he is injured? He is not helping to prolong his career. He will done shortly at this rate.

Would be pretty shocked if Mourinho picked him for the bench following this. You can't go out on a silly booze a week before the game when your footballing legs are almost gone

Calm down Raees.

Also the bigger issue has to be him wearing his football jersey whilst getting pissed? I mean first of all why? And secondly why?

Surprised he hasn't got the Captain armband on too.

So the knee injury was a hangover. Said time and again in many many Rooney threads, it'll come out that he has a drink problem.

I've completely come round to the idea that Rooney is a massive piss-head. There's been the perennial slow starts to ever season, the pints he was drinking while sitting in the exec box during a United game (when did you last see a professional athlete skulling pints, mid-afternoon, in the middle of a campaign?) the game where him and Gibson were dropped after apparently turning up unfit to train after a night out, then I heard a rumour from a friend who knows a "fixer" in New York that said Rooney went on a monstrous bender during his brother's stag (again, mid-season) and now you've got all the stuff from this week. All in the context of a footballer who is declining, physically, much younger than you would typically expect. I mean, join the dots. It's a real shame but he's got nobody to blame but himself. Funny Fergie put up with it so long, after the way he dealt with Whiteside and McGrath, but I guess you have to make exceptions for the really special talents in the hope they will eventually get their shit together. Looks like he was running out of patience at the end, though. How long before Mou does the same?

His attitude stinks, to be honest.

Recovering from benders gets harder with age. Even if he has always liked a drink and even if his whole family like a drink, he should now be cutting down considerably. Drinking until the early hours just shows he doesn't give two hoots about being in peak condition.

Not to mention his inconsistent first touch. For me no matter how much a player ages, first touch is usually the thing that stays with them especially a brilliant talent like Rooney.

When he was younger he could pull off sensational first touches but was quite inconsistent.. usual for someone of that age and style of play, but it has got worse with age and for me I would associate that with lack of concentration and sluggish movement.. things I would associate with drink.

This thread title needs changing to the Rooney bashing thread. Seriously I don't think he should be starting for us. But from piecing all the articles together it seems he was told by Southgate he'd be rested against Spain so what does it matter that he went a bit overboard? I'd need a drink if I used to be fecking amazing and now struggle to start a game.

People wonder why Rooney never made it in the top 3 footballers of his generations. It's because of this shite like this.
It makes me have even more respect for the likes of Ronaldo/Messi. These guy's look after themselves and respect the game as professionals.
Talent isn't everything. At 31 Rooney hasn't learnt that.

actually drinking could be part of the problem, you lose agilty and speed with the injuries he had but if you keep yourself fit, you don't lose much stamina in 30s, certainly not as much as Wayne, and people will shout this he's still working hard nonsense about him. No he can't even last one half without looking knackered, similar to Van Persie in his last season here..

Yes it's a bit unfair to judge him like this after leaked pictures in The sun or wherever but as much as I feel little bit sad for him, he totally deserves this and bigger part of me wants him out of the club asap so we can finally move on

maybe that's why you're not professional footballer, nonone should get smashed like this in midseason ESPECIALLY when you're struggling, when you're struggling you need to work even harder, alcohol is not the solution and of course I'd do the same as you I guess but that's also why I am not professional footballer

He was going to rest his captain against Spain. Don't believe it. He might have done it against a nothing team, not Spain. Also if he thought he wasn't up to playing against Spain he shouldn't be playing for England anymore. If he thinks Wayne was going to get overrun by Spain, how does he think he will do in a tournament.

Even if your claims are true, those players were up against players who also drank heavily. This is 2016, some managers go as far as cutting out condiments like ketchup, some cut out fruit juices, some cut out fizzy drinks. A professional athlete in this day and age that regularly indulges himself in alcohol is going into a gun fight with a water pistol.
Just to add to that, Guardiola banned late night sex because of the adverse effects it can have on players. The amount of small things players need to tweak to be at their very best in the modern game is huge, the idea that one night off boozing won't be too bad is just silly.

It's not his fault guys, move on

They don't get it do they?
How heavy should a footballer in decline, fghting for his place be drinking?
If he has anther stinker, these same hacks will not forget to mention what happened.

I wonder how he polices that.
