Healthcare, cost of living, struggling to pay bills? Nah feck that, let's talk about degrees,

Makes no sense. The problem with getting a job fresh out of uni is that you're trying to convince the employer you're better than the competition. The competition for jobs is therefore the issue because only one person gets it regardless of degree quality.

What I think Sunak wants to actually do is increase entrepreneurialism and ergo create more jobs but that would require improved schemes and/or loans making it so you don't need a rich daddy to give you a leg up. There's only a finite amount of those.

But he knows that – the whole Tory party do – and is just being a fecking cnut as usual.

Apprenticeships are a nice idea admittedly but only if they pay well and have good career prospects. Simply adding more is not an indicator of that.

Boosting apprenticeships yeah? That’s why loads of apprenticeships have the same funding per apprentice as it did in 2013. Even ones that have recently increased have barely been bought in line with 2013 funding once you take inflation etc into account.

The government is a fecking shambles.

I know a lad who's just finished his 2nd year at college training to be an electrician. To be able to continue he needs to find an apprenticeship, but of course there's nobody willing to take him on so he's looking at having wasted 2 years and starting adult life with just a handful of GCSEs.

For a relatively small investment, the gov could give him every chance to earn a good income and pay taxes. As it is, he's increasingly likely to join the ranks of the unemployable.

But of course it's the tories implemeting it, so we won't need to look back in 5 or 10 years time and see that it failed to make a real difference. It will be setup to fail. It's just another promise they can brag about in the short term.

Bloody hell. How old is he? Do they not want to take him on because he’ll need a higher wage than a young apprentice, or are they just not hiring much currently?

I did my first year as an electrical apprentice and my boss stuck me with some waster who used to skive off and smoke weed at lunchtime. Of course me being 18 thought this was quality.

Ended up not continuing it because I couldn’t live off £80 a week, was already having to pay my mum rent etc. I dread to think what wage I could have been on now. Certainly would have saved a lot on the house I’m renovating

He's 18. He'd take any amount really. Certainly to start with. There's not much work around here anyway, but especially for shy kids.

That’s mad. You’d think companies would be crying out for someone who’s already been studying. When I did mine I’d barely used a pair of wire cutters before.

Hey that’s not fair.

You should include the who and the why and then determine that we’re a silly country.
Hang on. Wait. I thought you were one of us

Edit: Sorry, saw the context, you are one of us and this is a silly country. Sir fecking Shaun fecking Bailey.

Oh feck off you Cnut.

Given you need £1m in investments or £3m in savings to be eligible for a Coutts current account, I would hardly describe it as denying someone access to a basic service.

Basic from where Rishis sitting.

I mean, if you don't have a £1m investment account do you even need a bank account?

He's right though. Free speech is the cornerstone of our democracy. We should march on the streets in protest against this... oh.

First they came for the rich racists, and I did not speak out.

Because the rich racists had legislated that my right to protest was no longer legal.

This is all the Tories have got, they haven’t got anything else. Shall we make the Tories pay for rebuilding Ukraine due to donations from the Russians or maybe I should send them an invoice for my extra mortgage payments.

There's an election around the corner, let's drag this ghoul out because Johnson is washed up and we need to drum up a culture war to keep the establishment parties to the right.

He is a "globalist" btw. Man is a millionaire jet-setting, former investment banker. That's what a globalist is.

It's amazing how quickly this government can spring into action and look at changing bank licenses when one of their own is "cancelled", but when it comes to banks and businesses fecking over everyone else it's just met with a shrug and "we understand this is tough but we have difficult decisions to make blah blah sowwy"

This is a story about a threat to class status. No wonder Sunak, himself a social climber, has taken the time out to comment. Which just underlines how politically inept he is. I mean really, if you really want to know what a bad politician he is, you couldn't have chosen a better way to remind people how rich and out of touch he is.

I guarantee few people are as acutely aware of the British class system, and its in and out groups, than an immigrant's kid put into a public school.
Yes that’s a beautiful example of social mobility. A boy who despite his tough start in life attending Stroud Preparatory School and Winchester College managed to earn a place at Oxford University and somehow battled the odds and found himself among the upper middle classes.

I have a single tear in my eye, lump in my throat and courage in my heart after writing that.

The guy can't even use a fecking contactless debit card and needs to pose with someone else's hatchback to come across as "one of us". The only thing he knows about working class people is that he doesn't like them.
