Westminster Politics

Surely the Tories are going down at the next GE without the cult of personality that surrounds Johnson?

So presumably one the dist has settled he can quietly rescind his resignation?

Honestly, I've never know anything like this.

Wouldn't surprise me.

He'll probably manufacture some sort of national emergency, and claim he has to stay on for the good of the people.

Last few pages have made for fascinating reading. Question: do your ministries not have career staff who can man them in case MPs step down?

No. By tradition all ministers must be members of one of the two houses, usually Parliament i.e elected MPs. Gordon Brown started putting his mates in the House of Lords and appointing them ministers that way, but its not common.

I don't think it's legally a requirement, but it's never happened and is an unwritten rule.

Nah, nobody gives a shit. Tory 'till I die, just like it's SNP 'till I die up here. Your quality of life, your public services, your income and taxes, nobody gives a shit. We support who we support and there ain't nobody gonna change my mind!

Well done everyone! Shit, devisive politics in every corner of the UK! What a cracking bunch of wankers we are!

Surely the Tories are going down at the next GE without the cult of personality that surrounds Johnson?

I don't think so. That cult of personality has probably done more harm than good for their popularity recently. They'll get a new leader, distance themselves from Johnson, claim they've changed and people will vote for them

BBC headlines changing from 'will stay on' to 'wants to stay on'.

I can't believe the tories will let him stay.

Is there a chance of Rees-Mogg becoming Prime Minister?

As much as I feel sympathy for the decent half of Britain, that would be fecking hilarious.

I get the same feeling of dread that it could happen that I did back 7 or 8 years ago about Boris becoming PM, so yeah, that doesn't bode well...

Except with JRM, somehow, it's an even worse outcome. I'd 'happily' keep BoJo over him.

I'm still hoping for a Mike Bassett "four more years" turnaround from Boris.

We've spent hundreds of years telling the world the Tories are cnuts. Now they're proving us right all on their own!

shame i’ve done my hammy otherwise i reckon i could get a run out in the cabinet.

No chance, he won't have enough backing from the party.
For people like Rees-Mogg, Priti Patel and Nadine Dorries won't be part of a future government. Their careers on the front benches are over, and they know it.

What is the point in having a Deputy PM if they aren’t installed in such situations?

No way he can continue until Autumn and absolutely no need to do so for that length of time. There’s literally no ministers left so don’t even know how that works and yet again would be an example of not doing what’s best for the country in the here and now. It’s always about the Tory party.

So glad such a corrupt, facile, awful man who has dreamt all his life of being Prime Minister, has his dream end like this. In total failure and ignomy.

Beautiful.

"I am your new leader!"

has anyone thought of how many ukrainian soldiers will down tools now that their hero and saviour, bojo, is going?

statement at midday. must need 90 mins to rip the copper out of the walls on his way.

I keep refreshing this thread and it doesn't disappoint. Trying to follow all that's going on while at work literally means I'm not doing any work.

I'm fairly sure that puts me like 4th in line to be next PM
