Westminster Politics

Well yeah, but at least the NHS is flourishing now that it's getting the couple of hundred million a week that was going to the EU before Brexit.

Honestly, as an outsider looking in I'm astonished how the UK public have allowed the current version of the tories to stay in power, they're rotten to their absolute core.

Because they've subverted almost the entire press. The "independent" / "leftie" BBC is run largely by people heavily linked to the Tories. We have a very poor system of checks and balances in our democracy and press that always relied on our politicians and business people having some level of shame - see the ministerial code that can be ignored with impunity by the likes of Boris Johnson. These feckers have absolutely no shame, starting with Osborne, Clegg and Cameron, who frankly look like saints compared to the people who have succeeded them.

As for Maticmaker, I take your posts with a pinch of salt. You've been shown to have some wildly illogical and unfounded views on here, even in the face of clear evidence against.

You mean I don't agree with you!

That's fine, for the record I think some of your views are a bit outlandish in many aspects, but we are all entitled to our opinions.

(PS I am not out to covert anybody...I realised the futility of that many years ago, although I did (for a long time) believe everybody should serve at least one year in the role of shop steward.... if only to find out which way is up)

Regarding your point about people serving one year as a shop steward in order to find out...
That was precisely the reason I became a shop steward. And like you it was a real eye opener into what was going on below the surface.
There was a range of political views at the working level. Particularly after the Labour government cancelled the TSR2 jet
But what was very clear was that the local shop stewards were being actively manipulated by the AUEW District Committee members into calling for industrial action for even the most mundane issues.
They were well aware that we were working on a particular NATO military jet programme, MRCA Tornado. And it was evident that they were looking for opportunities to delay it if at all possible.
But all of that we some 50 years ago and things have changed.

For what it’s worth I don’t think they expected or wanted to win this. It’s a shit policy that costs an absolute fortune per immigrant sent to Rwanda. Like millions each.

What they want is to have a public war over this so they can point at our legal system and say it’s WOKE and needs reforming so they can introduce new laws which gives them new authoritarian powers. They will also use it as an excuse as to why their immigration stats are so high - because lefty judges and activist lawyers are sabotaging it.

Isn't it time to call a general election when the government cannot pass a law?

Your mention of the TSR2 and Tornado projects brought back memories and reminded me of the 'Blue Streak' missile affair, I had a slight involvement as I was covering the Oldham area at the time as an AUEW (formerly AEU) observer.) That definitely had 'reds under the bed' overtones, although strangely it finished up with the main contractor, think it was Ferranti, having to pay back to the government around £5m ('chump change' nowadays) because of overpricing... last time UK armaments procurement office got something right ;)
50 years but... as they say, 'the more things change the more they stay the same' (or something like that!!)

I know this isn’t a serious post but it really isn’t that far from the truth (and it’s similar in the US too), which shows how far from real ‘democracy’ we actually are.

Eh, I'd say this is quite far from the truth, considering that the tories are too far gone. They've taken their shit to another level, and it won't be reached again for many years.

The US is miles from this and you would be surprised at the level of real democracy as well, the people have a lot more say than anyone in the UK does

Braverman: "The British people want to stop the boats, and so does this government."

Tories continuing to Tory. They have one tactic and that's to repeat the same phrases over, and over, and over, till they are meaningless. Stop the boats. Brexit means Brexit. It's hard to imagine I'd hate a Home Secretary as much as Patel but Braverman is trying her best.

 the wankers. Privatising the water companies was clearly a union/Labour effort as well. I just wish they would give the Tories a break if I'm honest, because unions have ruined everything. I'm positive that if the Tories had a solid 10-15 years in power, and were able to remove certain worker's rights and cut spending in the public sector, we'd be in a better position than the one we're in because of meddling unions/Labour/communists
Bloody Commies.

It's funny that Braverman knows what the British people want, because I'm a British person and the thing I want more than anything in the world is for Braverman to shut the feck up.

Speak for yourself, I want a lot more than her shutting the feck up!

The best and quickest way to at least reduce the number of illegal boat crossings is to do what she should be doing. And that is to agree to formal safe routes for entry.

It’s a bit like a boxing match. Rishi and Suella are just fighting off the challengers and are rightly trying to hold onto their belt.

Alternatively have a Navy that has enough staff and ships to do the job properly

Bingo. This is how culture war works.

“Stop The Boats” is Leaver-Slang for ‘Stop the brown people’.

They’ll never create safe routes for people. They’re ghouls.

@DOTA i’m not a fecking ‘bit of a Tory’. I am a floating voter based on the issues at election time. (Can’t reply in the sale thread, plus I’d probably get banned again if I did anyway :wenger: )
For a start anyone to the right of Corbyn is 'a bit of a Tory' to me but from the sounds of it you have recently voted for them? I can't imagine you're gonna convince me to retract this one

I'm looking forward to the war on woke gang campaigning for a boycott on Coutts.

The level to which these people ‘both sides’ everything is wild.

Coutts are very ghoulish. The Queen banks with them. Farage would have used this as a meaningless status symbol but it will absolutely be spun in a way that suggests woke victimhood inside a week.

The poors in this country that lionise a man that treads on them on his way to greater fortune are perhaps the only people that deserve this cost of living crisis.

‘Floating’ between Where and where? When did you last vote Tory?

 Wonder what their ouija board budget is?

Anyone that finds themselves “floating” over to the Tories is a cnut as far as I am concerned.

Anybody to the right of a hard lefty like Corbyn is Tory?!! I think I may have a hard time, yes.
I voted for Cameron, May and Johnson, mainly because I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Jezza or the creature comfort Wallace and Gromit guy before him. Previously I voted for Blair, and for Nick Clegg because I thought the country needed a change from the old red or blue. I can’t imagine Sunak will get my vote, but I don’t see Starmer getting his house in order either so who knows?!!

Labour to Lib Dem to Tory. I voted for May, and subsequently Boris as I couldn’t vote for anti-Semite Corbyn even though one or two of his policies were thought provoking.
The one who used antisemitic tropes in his books, employed self proclaimed antisemites as columnists and defended them, made strong alliances with the likes of orban in Europe, that Boris?

Yeah man you’re a Tory until you stop voting for them. You threw a coin in this well and poisoned it.

Fair go if you admit it was an erroneous vote, but if you stand by the votes you’re 100% right wing and a vote casting Tory.

All of this shit is on you and all that did the same.

That’s not condemnation of your character but 100% condemnation of your actions.

Anyone offended by antisemitism but OK with other forms of outright bigotry and racism is a massive hypocrite.

Voting conservative doesn’t make you a Tory. Most tories would probably look down on me rather than take me as their own.
I think I probably do regret it, but as I said earlier it’s based on the evidence at the time. Cameron should have had the balls to see through the brexit vote when he cocked up. Boris is a narcissistic pathological liar who can’t be trusted as far as you can throw him. Says much about UK politics that he was the best option. I’m certainly not voting for Sunak who is weak and forgettable while he stands by Priti Patel and Suella Braverman.
