Who is going to be the Next Prime Minister of the UK? | Be your stubborn best

So Leadsom was all for staying in the EU

"I think it would be a disaster for our economy and it would lead to a decade of economic and political uncertainty at a time when the tectonic plates of global success are moving.

"Economic success is the vital underpinning of every happy nation. The well-being we all crave goes hand in hand with economic success."

Leave Mp's in the Tory leadership do seem a to be very untrustworthy.

I am still in shock at the Gove betrayal!

I would say that it was a stab in the back and a brutal assignation - but it was more like the attack on Caesar than a simple stabbing.

Jesus christ, if Tory members give us Leadsom as PM, we are truly fecked as a country. In parliament for six years and the highest position she's held is energy minister.

Leadsom now seems to be the brexit champion. Never knew who she was till the debates . Seemed to smile a lot and have a very upbeat view of leaving the EU.
she did also lie her ass of in that debate ..... though they all did on both sides.

Hopefully this one's more accurate.

Leadsom is a bad joke. She has IDS and Boris behind her, which basically means that if she gets it she will be a puppet PM. She is clueless and out of her depth as a politician, never mind as PM.

I cannot believe I am in the position of thinking that Theresa fecking May is the least bad solution for the next couple of years. Unbelievable.

In a profile by the Financial Times Gove said that at Oxford he was Johnson's stooge. Payback time ? A neo-liberal through and through according to the same issue. I wonder what that will mean for the future of workers.

Christ, this looks incredibly grim. Just back from holiday and seen the latest odds for May. At least Boris would've been hilariously incompetent whilst being terrible. May will just be dull, and likely try to restrict anything that goes against her own narrow-minded views, if her record on surveillance/scientific stuff is anything to go by.

Which is why the "progressive/green" case for leaving was such a farce.

Yes but after a tumescent couple of years and the inevitability of worse EU terms than we have Boris can bumble in like a mad (drunk) old uncle to rescue us.
Yeah I think I'm seriously going to look into moving to Ireland / Scotland... or buggering off to China

Liam Fox eliminated after first round in Tory leadership

Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench Conservative 1922 committee reads out the results of the leadership ballot.

Theresa May: 165

Andrea Leadsom: 66

Michael Gove: 48

Stephen Crabb: 34

Liam Fox: 16

Liam Fox is eliminated after the first round.

May it is then. Andrea is nowhere near even if she gets support from Fox and Grove voters.

Looks likely but looking at the other votes Andrea could have a respectable number of MP's and end up winning with party members. Conservatives mostly voted Brexit and they might want a Brexit PM.

Think we should just stop members voting for leaders tbh, nightmare.

That would just lead to an even bigger gap between the public and politicians. It's already too far removed from real life, can't imagine how bad it would get if selection was contained in one postcode.

I'd rather a gap between the public and politicians than Andrea "Leadbanger" Leadsom as PM.

Think Crabb pulled out. Shame for Jon Culshaw who could've stepped up his career impersonating a PM.
Ledson and gove sliming up to the MP's and trying to buy support to get in the run off
I have to say at least the process seems a lot quicker than the Labour one last year which seemed to drone on forever

Didn't Leadsom try to get maternity pay and minimum wage rights abolished? Sounds like the kind of leader the working man/woman really needs.
A truly horrible woman.
Yeah, she proposed it for companies with three employees or fewer.

She shouldn't be allowed anywhere near Downing Street.

I can see the point of companies with less than three employees being given help, but opening that can of worms would cause far more problems than it solved.

Shes a bit of an idiot really.

She also wants the BBOFC to rate every single website on the internet and tell us whether they're suitable for children or not.

May vs Leadsom it is. UK gets its second female PM, both Tory (before Labour's even elected its first female leader).

Its fine, most party members would have been remainers. May will be voted in as PM and she will get some sort of brexit lite arrangement. The world will be saved.

I'm not sure. When 75% (can't find a decent figure) of tory part members voted for brexit, then we are in trouble

Think we're in trouble whoever we get . But at least May as more parliamentary experience.
