Who would you have as our new manager

Rumor on the playground is that Martino will step down from Barcelona this summer. In which case we should move for Klopp now.

Screw it, just give him the £150m for himself!

Times would be seriously bad if we failed to attract people to manage Manchester United, only Barca or Real would be a 'bigger' attraction surely.

I'm on this Klopp hype ting.

Its funny that you lot are talking as if this is a realistic option. It doesn't matter how David Moyes performs for the rest of the season or even over the next year, he will be given 2 full years to have a crack. There is no way we would go back on our philosophy which we adopted when we appointed Moyes, otherwise we would appear fickle/rash and ultimately the same as everyone else, when actually a managerial change is the right thing to do. The reality is he is going to be here for a while yet and its going to get a lot worse before it gets good again. The trouble with that is we are sinking fast and there is a long way to go with the rate we are falling.

Ultimately a new manager is needed but I guarantee we wont be getting one for at least 18 months.
Are you one of the Glazers? Otherwise I don't know how you can guarantee it...

I don't know if it's just me, but I find this quite arrogant.

We are like everyone else. Manchester United are a modern football club, likewise, Aston Villa are a modern football club. There should be no discernible difference when it comes to the major decisions both clubs make. We have goals and financial targets we should be meeting every year and for us that should be Champions League football and if under the current management those targets aren't being met then serious questions need to be posed and acted upon to protect the club financially.

I don't think it is 'fickle' or 'rash' in the slightest. Actually I would say it's the polar opposite and that the club are acting with common sense, opposed to the reality currently happening that we are blindly following a unproven manager at the top level who hasn't got one redeemable quality in his favour with how our season has gone. Our 'philosophy' is based on sentimentality and old school traditions, founded upon us possessing a once in a lifetime manager and arguably the greatest manager of all time.

If the Glazers are the hard-nosed businessmen they are made out to be, hopefully they will show some ruthlessness and sack him at the end of the season - preferably before then.

...and you're Crackers.

Said it plenty of times on here but it's sheer arrogance to think Klopp will come to United. He simply isn't leaving Dortmund this Summer, regardless of how hard to turn down some people believe United to be.

Would we all take Klopp with no money to spend over giving Moyes 100m? I know I would.

It's not going to happen. Unfortunately, he's an ambitious guy who seems to intent on making his stamp at Dortmund and not giving up on them.

Well we could've got Mourinho last year, so we do have a fair bit of pull still.

:(

Surely life is just like a video game though.

Just offer more money.

With the majority of those in football it is. However some have loyalty and Klopp appears to be one of them. Think it's 2016 he has said he will stay to and I'd be surprised if he leaves before that and amazed if it's this season.

I'd take Klopp having to sell players for 50m over Moyes spending 150m

yes

Yeah because if true Klopp probably doesn't know yet.

Get on it Moyes, I mean Woodward.

Some of the suggestions like Martinez and especially Pochettino are laughable. They pretty much have the same drawback that I saw when we appointed Moyes, i.e. never having managed at the level of United. Not to mention that Pochettino is yet to complete his first full season in English football.

If we do get rid and go for someone else, it has to be someone who is pretty much the anti-Moyes. Someone who plays good football, has atleast been involved in a title race and has experience at a bigger club than Everton/Southampton.

Surely he has a price, surely we'd be better off with Klopp than Mata and Fellaini right now.

He's not after money though. He is a man of his word and has said he will stay at Dortmund. He turned down money in the Summer and will do the same.

I still think everybody has a price, perhaps 5m a year isn't enough to tempt him, what about 10m, 15m, 20m?

I'd rather give him the 300k a week than Rooney.

I think he views Dortmund as HIS project and don't think money, or more money, is overly important. Similar to Wenger really, hasn't be always been rumoured for Madrid and in more recent times PSG?

Van Gaal would be a good appointment, he would get United playing good football and pretty much argue with every person who he sees eventually though. Be entertaining though.

Wenger never had us or another team in the league pilfering his best players though. Well, not until recently anyway.

I'd agree that's it's unlikely, but I struggle to see how it's arrogant of us to ponder the possibility. We need someone with the personality and mentality capable of managing a club as vast as ours, Klopp is one of the few that fit the bill.

Arsenal's been selling their best players for a few years now. Its arrogant in some cases because some seem to assume that if United want him, he's theirs.

Conte is about to win his third Scudetto in a row with Juve (including an unprecedented unbeaten season), and has also won 2 supercups and been named Serie A manager of the year twice. Juve are currently the favourites to win the Europa League this season, with the final being contested in their own stadium.

He's shown himself to be very astute tactically, and rarely seems to makes mistakes with overall strategy. On the occasions when things aren't working, he's very adaptable, and frequently alters the course of games with a clever change to his personnel/system. Conte also seems to have mastered the art (in common with the likes of Mourinho, Ferguson, and many other top managers) of finding a way to win, even when his side aren't playing well. He looks to be a good man-manager/motivator as well.

The reservations about their lack of experience are valid, but tactically they are way ahead of Moyes, and notably their approach to the game is tailored towards working with top players. I also saw it mentioned that no-one would have suggested Martinez > Moyes prior to this season, yet I'd counter that anyone who knows about football would have done. Without doubt, Martinez will end up at a top club - I wouldn't be surprised if he takes over at Arsenal when Wenger retires.

For us, it's probably too soon for Pochettino and Martinez, but the notion they are laughable is just wrong.

ESPN journo on Twitter saying we've made initial contact with Louis van Gaal, now that idea of firing Moyes has been raised.

Do you believe it? Trouble is, there is never any comeback on these journalists when it doesn't happen.

We need to get Van Gaal before he goes to Spurs.

Imagine Spurs getting him and us getting stuck with Moyes. Moyes would do nothing against Mourinho, Wenger, Pellegrinni or Van Gaal.

Why can't people separate two concepts that are easily separable?

Klopp should be our number one target. No one is assuming we will be able to convince him but it is criminal not to try. I doubt the board members sit there and tell each other "Oh but Klopp won't come, forget about him." You discuss these things, make offers, try your best to get the man, and if all fails then you move to the second best name on a carefully selected shortlist that you have come up. Klopp should be on top of that list till the club has tried everything they can to get him and failed. Is he guaranteed to come if we want him? Obviously not, it is quite arrogant to suggest otherwise. Is he guaranteed not to come? Well you won't know until you try!

My shortlist would be:

1- Klopp
2- Simeone
3- Van Gaal
4- Conte
5- De Boer
6- Montella

Start with Klopp and go down that list. The list starts with proven managers and descends into really promising ones. I personally think we have a strong chance to bring one of the first 3 in. Everyone on that list will have us move away from the archaic football that we've been playing.

Van Gaal for 2-3 seasons to be replaced by Guardiola when he gets bored with Bayern. Win-Win and more.

I dont like Van Gaal. He's a good manager but he's too argumentative.

I still don't see why we are arrogant in trying for Klopp. Madrid are pretty much arrogant in every player and manager they go for. Some people on here still don't really grasp 'who we are'. (My girl told me not to post that)

Yeah bit of a loose cannon but then again thats why we picked Moyes over Mourinho. :(

Saying that, Id rather see Van Gaal spending 150m then Moyes. The thought of Gollum raiding Everton again still haunts me during the night.

He'd demand the highest standards, which is what this club is about. He's not the long term option but he'd get us back into shape and competing again. And most importantly, he has big club experience.

Most definitely Klopp.....

If only we could go to Chelsea with tail between our legs and hand Roman a suitcase with 50 million inside

Van Gaal doesn't really like spending. In case Modric becomes available, he probably would say, Cleverley is just as good, we don't need Modric . And yes, I'm serious. Bayern basically forced Robben on him, because the team was playing incredibly shit. When rumours about Madrid offering a lot of money for Schweinsteiger came out, he said in an interview that Bayern should sell him, his clubs always made money with transfers and were successful anyway. When the rumours about Neuer appeared, he stated publicly that he doesn't need him, Kraft is just as good.

I'm really thankful for what van Gaal did at Bayern, he made all our players better, teached them basic tactical concepts they clearly didn't know before. But you can't let him make all the decisions regarding transfers on his own, I can't think of a top manager with a worse record. His signings at Barca were shockingly bad, the players he brought to Bayern were sold within two years. The mix between the players, Hoeneß/Rummenigge signed, and the youth players he brought into the first team, was brilliant. He knows his stuff, for example he said in 2010 that Alaba will be a worldclass leftback and that we shouldn't sign Coentrao. But at a big club, he definitely needs a director of football, who isn't afraid of telling him he's wrong, someone who understands the game and brings in a few top class player at the right moment.

the glazers will absolutely love him
