World Cup 2018 & 2022 bids

Q. Can Russia build all of these roads and airports and stadiums?

A. Well yes, as after all they have pulled of great feats like putting a man in space and beating the Nazis.

Considering the big economic story at the moment in Europe is questioning whether or not the Portuguese Government will need a multi billion bailout or not it would be questionable to say the least.

Exactly. We don´t need to waste our money on things we really don´t need. We already proved in 2004 we´re competent enough to organize big events with great success. Politicians will be praying for it to happen though as it will keep people´s minds of the economical problems for a while.

America hosted a World Cup in 1994, it will be unfair if they get it again. I hope it goes to Australia.

England and Australia are the two sensible and fair choices, but that's not what it's about is it?

Qatar and Russia are "fair" in the sense that they've not had it before (or anywhere nearby), but I don't think either is sensible... one is too big and cold and one too small and hot.

USA and Spain-Portugal could dot he practical side, but the feckers just had it and can wait their turns!

The ozzies don't seem to have lowered themselve into enough political arse-licking to get it. England have, but at the same time there's been such a series of own goals that it's largely nullified.

Everyone knows the snow beat the Nazi's.

I do think the Iberian bid is unbelivably cynical. Lumping Portugal in to avoid the you had it in 1982 line.

Personally I'd like to see Holland/Belgium get it if we don't. I realise they have no chance though.

Qatar bid would be a feckin joke.. legacy?

It's fecking ridiculous, what are they going to do with all of those stadiums afterwards? It has a population around the same as Merseyside!

Have you not seen their bid details?
They say they are going to dismantle the stadiums and ship them for free to developing countries who need them! Mental!

Considering if England picked three or four cities in London we would have been lambasted - if one city or microcountry could host a world cup it is London, a microcountry like Qatar is just novel.

The legacy is, they're giving the stadiums and buildings to other poorer countries. Thats a dam good sell.

Great presentation by England. Becks (and his grandad) is a legend.

Funny how the film highlighted the giants of the premiership...and Citeh ffs.

" and the upper tiers of the stadiums will be disassembled after the World Cup and donated to countries with less developed sports infrastructure."

Nice idea, but no way they should host it.

Announcement delayed 10 minutes for some bizarre reason apparently, no expected at 15:10

Portugal is a bit of a puppet here anyway. Out of 18 proposed stadia that's 2 from Portugal and 16 from Spain. Both these stadia are in very good shape (Luz and Dragão) and we're not bad in terms of accommodations infrastructures. Only thing that can use an improvement is ground transportation (trains mainly) but that's going to be done regardless of WC or no WC.

I don't think this will be very heavy financially to Portugal.

That said I have no idea why Spain wanted to join with us for the bid, it probably just decreases their chances if it's true that FIFA is not fond of shared organizations. Specially if they're only giving us something like 20% of the games or less.

italian coach new stadia is why nothing more oh and maybe that argie bastard:lol:

Talking of an italian coach - where the feck was Ancelotti? Must be proof the bloke is getting the sack shortly or Abramovich bought him off. Should have replaced him with Ray Wilkins.

Meh, no world cup history.. no contribution in general to the game of football throughout history.. and more importantly the country will not produce a legacy for itself, fair enough it'll help other countries..

watching FSC in the states how pathetic they are in seattle singing

The United States presentation I thought was very shallow, it was good in projecting figures and achievements but failed I believe to convey any passion or emotion in the United States or within the bid itself. Even Clinton seemed pretty flat. I also found it funny how they manifested their support from the Federal Government - 'we have our Attorney General, Eric Holder here, who can answer any questions.' They sure know how to generate excitement.

If we sent Dominic Grieve and Ken Clarke that wouldn't to me say a masterstroke.
