Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

I could see the board approaching Zidane around December if the Mou meltdown is in full force.

So you think he should only manage PSG, Juve or Bayern?

I think he has no business downgrading from Madrid to United. Whatever he can hypothetically do and gets offered from United, Madrid will match and he’ll have far more resources at his disposal with Real. United can’t keep up with them and we’ve always been the little brothers to them who pluck away at our team.

...plus he said he’s not looking to go to any other club. He literally said he’s stepping down because he can’t see them maintaining their success. Why on earth United fans even fathom he’d want leave them to come here is beyond me hahah

Right move to go now in fairness on a high that may never be repeated.

And his call to go as well.

Anything but a 4-peat not done for over half a century will be seen as failure at Madrid

United will give him as big a budget and be more than happy with SF

It would be a surprise, as ZZ would be a big gamble and Ed wants to avoid gambles. He is looking for sure things, now.
We previously tried bringing in a manager who likes to build a team for the long haul (and that failed).
We then went and got a World Class manager, who had never managed in England and had not managed a club side for a while (that failed).
Ed then went and got Jose - proven World Class manager who had won the league 18 months earlier, in England. A serial winner. We wanted trophies, so we got Jose.
ZZ would be someone who has never built a team from scratch and someone who has never managed in a competitive league, where it not inconceivable that you can lose to the side who is bottom of the league.
As long as Jose is winning (or coming very close to) winning trophies, he shall remain as manager.
I'm happy with Jose for all the reasons you've stated but I feel that there are too many people who will be unhappy with him if performances don't improve. I know Zizou has never built a squad but with his name and our money, there's isn't really anyone who would turn us down, player wise. It's easier to build a team when you get all the players you want.
Plus, I think we'd see the best of Pogba with Zidane in charge.

Cause our ambitions would match his. You think we are happy with just the FA Cup?

Ambitions are just ambitions, I’m sure they’re no different to Chelsea’s or City’s or Liverpool’s.

Zidane is the ultimate winner. You really think he’d want to inherit United how it is now? Not a chance. If they show some signs of life this new season sure but as of yet, our football heritage since SAF left is poor.

I’m pretty sure our ambitions are higher than Chelsea or Liverpool.

It depends if he wants his squads handed to him or if he wants to build his own.

Since when has a manager left Real Madrid without getting fired ?

Legend of the game. No matter how you look at it, 3 CLs in a row is just something else. He realised he can't take the team any further and quits on his own terms. Respect.

A lot of big clubs with new managers next season. Should be interesting.

Good decision for him to walk away, his record in the Champions League is incredible, can't see it being matched.

Don’t think so. I’m certain all 4 clubs ambitions are to win the league and win the CL. We are limited in terms of resources compared to Madrid so yea it literally makes no sense for him to join us unless things drastically change for the better and there’s light at the end of the tunnel (such as winning the league for a start but then again, that would only mean José stays and if we don’t win it and he’s sacked, again why on earth would he come here?).

Pretty sure he just wants to win. He had a squad handed down to him at Madrid. He could’ve built it his own the next couple of years as the board would back him without doubt after the success he’s had but decided he’d rather back off and leave with his gains. Goes to show his winner mentality. The audacity of him to make such a decision after winning 3 straight CLs and having the same world class squad going forward. God like.

I’m not sure Real do have more resources than United, although they do have advantage when it comes to Iberian and S American players due to the weather and the language.

Anyway, Jose isn’t going anywhere, so it’s a pointless debate

Madrid will always have the bigger pull being the bigger and better attraction.

...and not really. José can easily get sacked mid season if things are really bad or at the end of the season if we don’t put up a close fight/win the league after spending another hundred odd million £ on signings. Thing is, even is José does get fired it’s just more reason for Zidane to not come here. Why on earth would he want to come here on a failing side? Logically it makes zero sense.

There can be many reasons, he may want to actually build his own side rather than having a chairman do all the signing. He could be tempted to win it everywhere like Jose was.

Another Champions League win has hidden it well but they have an ageing team that finished third, 17 points behind Barca. I'd fancy doing a disappearing act as well.

My suspicion is whoever is manager next season is getting sacked and he's made sure that fate won't be his.
Navas 31
Carvajal 26
Marcello 30.... Hernandez 20
Varane 25
Ramos 32.... Vallejo 21
Casemiro 26
Modric 32.... kovacic 24
Kroos 28
Ronaldo 33... isco 26
Benzema 30
Bale 28

Chuck in
asensio 22
Viniscus 17
And who knows ogegaard is still only 19

So basically they look pretty sorted to me especially as they will probably give a new manager the funds to get players like neymar Kane and Allison or de gea...

I think the demise of this team is overrated.. . They look solidly one of the best teams in the world for the next few years without additions but for sure they are gonna add to the squad as well

Takes more than being one of the best teams in the world to keep your job, at Real Madrid, though.

I don't know why I feel like he was sacked because of RM's poor showing in the league and they just want to make it look like he stepped down to save face....

strange, everything about it. For what he has achieved, he still remains very unconvincing or under appreciated to the wider football public. Pep was revered for what he did at Barca, I don't see the same adulation for Zidane. It's almost like people think the team won and would have anyway regardless of the manager. I think that's a bit unfair. He may not have been the most astute tactician, but he knew enough. One thing his team had was the ability to win games by digging in and grinding out victories. You look at the road to this last CL, tough group, then PSG, Juve, it certainly wasn't handed to them. Good luck to him.

Have a lot of respect for that decision and what a record.
Who will they get next though? They've gone through so many managers there can't be too many suitable candidates left, unless they give people a 2nd shot......

Pep revolutionised football like nobody else has or ever will> To put it into perspective, football was in the dark ages and Pep is the renaissance.

If you watched Real Madrid then you know some of those guys don't have enough level to claim anything on the starters, and haven't shown anything that suggests they will in the next two years, bar Kovacic and Asensio.

Achraf, Theo, Kovacic, Llorente, Asensio or Isco were starters in the cup game they lost vs Leganes, that's a burden they'll have to carry for some time now and that's why Zidane said it was his worst moment as Real Madrid manager, I think he expected more from the next generation of players that should take over after Modric, Ronaldo and Marcelo, yet they fell short, maybe that's the moment he didn't saw a future on this squad, or he felt he really couldn't believe in them.

Do you worry Ronaldo may leave Madrid since Zidane left? I’m shocked as I’m sure everyone else is as well

Really strange decision, the CL win has papered over a shockingly poor domestic season in reality. Still 3 CL's in 3 seasons and he leaves (maybe was pushed). Unreal. Hope they appoint Wenger.

Bet Ronaldo's going hate all the talk and publicity focus back on Zidane..

Surprised at the decision but clearly a good one. Leaving on top rather than risking a sacking next season. It'll be hard to imagine someone repeating his achievement, and definitely not at the rate of his success. 3 CL in a 2.5 years career is just simply ridiculous!

Hope he never manages a club again and preserves his perfect CL record
