Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing. Arsenal desperately need to buy some goodwill with the fans, and Hazard seems like the obvious choice given their flirt the last couple of years.

Hope it doesn't happen though, obviously.

Football premier-league: Lille slap

Will they pay that much for him?

Lille have slapped a €30million price tag on midfield star Eden Hazard as Arsenal step up their pursuit of the Belgian ace, according to reports in France.

The 20-year-old has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time and the Frenchmen is now pondering a bid following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and the likely sale of Samir Nasri.

Lille are keen to keep the Belgian international and L’Equipe claim they have responded to Arsenal’s interest by demanding that massive fee for him.

The Gunners have already signed Gervinho in an £11m deal from Lille this summer and the club’s president Michel Seydoux said after that move was completed that he intended to keep Hazard.

Seydoux said: “I am not sure he wants to leave anyway. He knows his status here and at a large club there is much more uncertainty."

Wenger will have no trouble matching the fee for Hazard having banked £35m for Fabregas and with Nasri expected to leave for between £20-25m but the doubts will persist as to whether he is prepared to spend that much on one player.

Instead, the Emirates boss will be hoping to persuade Lille to drop their asking price for Hazard, who is the cousin of Gunners’ centre-half Thomas Vermaelen.

I never knew Vermaelen was his cousin. Another fast, young winger... Fits the profile of an Arsenal signing.

They'd never pay that money though.

They're in a worse position than we were when we sold Ronaldo - all the clubs will know they have money so they'll be extorted, the difference is that they'll actually need to buy direct replacements for Cesc/Nasri where we didn't. You'd have thought they'd try to line up deals before the public knew that Nasri and Cesc were off.

Except for the fact that he's not a winger. He's clearly an attacking midfielder in the Nasri role. He's played as a winger a few times but it's definitely not his natural position.

He'd be a great buy for them. If Wenger isn't prepared to part with €30m he really is an idiot.

Not neccessarily - for all the bluster of clubs its only the very top clubs who can afford to keep their most promising players and hold clubs to ransom.

I personally think that once a player wants to leave, especially nearing the end of the transfer window. Clubs don't want unhappy players and plenty need, or would gratefully accept the cash.

Arsenal need more than a couple of players and I'd say they need to replace Fabregas and address the issues tehy've had the last couple of years, namely two decent centr halfs and a couple of solid, physical midfielders.

I personally think Gervinho can replace Nasri by teh looks of it so far and Wilshere is good enough to replace Fabregas and should be given his chance. Ramsey will come on as well.

If they are truly willing to sell Hazard for €30m (£26m) then I don't see why Wenger shouldn't do it. Losing Fabregas (£35) and Nasri (£25?) will give them a lot of excess cash. He talks about struggling to find quality better than they've got already, when Hazard will effectively replace Nasri's influence himself. Wenger needs to get some perspective because that's a fair price for a 20 year old with his potential. Andy Carroll went for £35m after all!

I hope he doesn't do it, because it would be the smart decision and a real statement of intent for Arsenal and their fans.

Well you can't say he's not a winger. From the little I've seen of him, I've seen him almost exclusively play in wide positions.

Top quality winger will sign for Arsenal IF they qualify for Champions League | FootyBunker.com

Eden Hazard will sign for Arsenal in a deal worth £23m should the North London side qualify for the Champions League group stages when they play Udinese in the return leg on 24th August.

Lille were reported to have slapped a £26m price tag on the Belgian winger however the valuation is indeed slightly less with the 20 year old winger keen on joining Wenger’s side. The issue does remain though that he is already guaranteed Champions League football with Lille this season and does not wish to risk making the move only for Arsenal to play a part in the competitions poorer cousin, the Europa League.

Whilst a deal has been agreed in principal, personal terms have not and next weeks match against Udinese could be the most important game Arsenal have played over the last six years.

It's an interesting one though. Obviously the CL final was a bigger game but even that's 5 years ago.

The final was a bigger game, but I can see where the writer is coming from. The winner and the runner up earn nearly the same prize money and tv revenue after everything is sorted, but the difference between CL money and Europa money....

And whereas winning the CL is a boost to your international standing, losing it doesn't do much harm. Falling out of the CL on the other hand is a big setback.

Though, of course, I'm expecting Arsenal to go through.

I can't help feeling he'll be an Arsenal player before the transfer windows closes.

Bold prediction.

It wasn't as much a prediction as a statement of annoyance. I rate Hazard very highly, and Arsenal will certainly be replacing Nasri with high quality, if Hazard manages to find his feet quickly.

Unless Arsene is willing to spend the £26m Lille want for Hazard he will remain a Lille player past August 31st

I think they'll sign Marvin Martin and not Eden Hazard.

Maybe so.

The cheaper option, but not the bigger talent. That's been the Wenger way for some time. Only big money up front will tempt Lille to sell Hazard so late in the Transfer Window. You wonder whether he has the will to make them an offer they can't refuse because I believe he would solve the Nasri problem.

I wish we will go for him rather than the Dutch fecker that has dominated the transfer forum. Younger, not so expensive, commands lesser wages and Fergie himself will love this sort of talent to work with

I'd swap Nasri for Hazard in a instant....so this'd be tremendous if it goes through at similar prices and well Hazard won't be on half the wages Nasri was demanding I assume.

Just replacing Fabregas the tough one. Can't be putting all that on Ramseys shoulders.

If Hazard was moving, it'd having been a start of the transfer window so that his club could find possible replacement(s) for him.It won't happen, he's too valuable for Lille right now, he's had a cracking start to the season

He may not be going to Arsenal but I can think of a few clubs that could get him if they offered good enough money.
