Lille have slapped a €30million price tag on midfield star Eden Hazard as Arsenal step up their pursuit of the Belgian ace, according to reports in France.
The 20-year-old has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time and the Frenchmen is now pondering a bid following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and the likely sale of Samir Nasri.
Lille are keen to keep the Belgian international and L’Equipe claim they have responded to Arsenal’s interest by demanding that massive fee for him.
The Gunners have already signed Gervinho in an £11m deal from Lille this summer and the club’s president Michel Seydoux said after that move was completed that he intended to keep Hazard.
Seydoux said: “I am not sure he wants to leave anyway. He knows his status here and at a large club there is much more uncertainty."
Wenger will have no trouble matching the fee for Hazard having banked £35m for Fabregas and with Nasri expected to leave for between £20-25m but the doubts will persist as to whether he is prepared to spend that much on one player.
Instead, the Emirates boss will be hoping to persuade Lille to drop their asking price for Hazard, who is the cousin of Gunners’ centre-half Thomas Vermaelen.
