Stoke City Vs. Manchester United

Premier League
Britannia Stadium
Saturday 24th September, 1730 BST
Live on ESPN

I think someone should steal all the towels in the Britannia so Rory Delap can't take 87 minutes of the match up by drying off the ball for a throw-in.

I long for the day when Stoke are beating a top side in the 89th minute, defending desperately, cheating, trying to break their opponents' legs, time wasting, drying the ball with a towel etc. and the 4th official holds up a board with a big number 17 on it to make up for all of it. The outrage would be fantastic.

-----------------------------De Gea-------------------------

---P.Jones------------J. Evans----Ferdinand----------Evra---

---Nani-------------Fletcher-------Anderson-------A.Young---

--------------------Rooney-------Berbatov----------------

Prediction:1-2 WIll be a tough scrappy affair. Think Berbatov's height and trickery might be neded to undo Stokes defense.

A lot of the Stoke 1st team played 120 mins Vs Spurs last night as well as a long trip to Kiev last Thursday, while United will probably play at least 9/10 different starters to last night

Can only be a good thing

Berbatov wont play at stoke IMO. Owen scored 2 last night as was all over a better performer than berba last night. I think if hernandez or wellbeck arent fit that owen should get a chance.

Team should be....

GK: De Gea

RB: Jones
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Fletcher
CM: Anderson
LM: Young

CF: Rooney
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Fabio, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Owen, Welbeck

I'll go with 0-2. Hernandez scoring.

If Vidic and Rio are back obviously they should play. If not then the back 4 picks itself.

Other than that I'd again have Fletcher and Anderson in midfield. Nani and Young on the wings but I'd start Welbeck up with Rooney.

What's the news on Chico's injury, or was it just bruising?

I'd like to see Owen take part, I think him playing with Rooney & Nani & Young providing top class service, they could really run riot here.

Just a bruise, luckily, a week or two is the estimate I believe.

Our first major test of the season away from home. They've done Spurs and the Scousers at the Brittania already this season, so it's likely to be quite a tough one.

12-0 United

----------------De Gea-----------------

---Valencia - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra---

-Nani -- Fletcher -- Anderson -- Young-

----------Rooney-------Owen---------

1-4; Nani x2; Rooney; Owen

I'm worried about DDG in this fixture. Stoke City are know for their physical approach and for blocking keepers during set pieces and throw-ins. I think it will be 3-2 United.

Won't be easy to be honest. But we're playing them at a good time, they should be tired :)

they play over 120 minutes and penalties shoot-out against spurs, hopefully they be exhausted.

I always see this as a difficult away but our record against them is absolutely faultless. We should win this given their fatigue, form etc but I certainly won't be taking this for granted.

Fergie's press conference should be interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smalling is favoured over Jones, Welbeck over Hernandez and Carrick over Fletcher due to their greater ability in the air.

They're coming off the back of a 4-0 hammering in the league and a penalty shoot out defeat in midweek.

Our big guns have all had a big rest, so we're in good shape. Injuries are clearing up slowly too.

Re the De Gea debate, we have to play the lad. Dropping him would be a real indictment of our trust in him. If we think he's the long term fix in goal, then we have to play him. He's going to have to do it at the Britannia at some stage, when better than when he has the insulation of a brilliantly performing team in front of him.

you'd think he'd play Welbeck with Rooney. He looked very energetic and ready to go at Leeds but might run out of steam - in which case he could bring on a just-about-fit Hernandez for the last 20. All of which means he'll actually do the least expected and play Owen.

I agree with those who say he pick a side packed with maximum aerial power. That means Smalling if fit, and hopefully Rio. I'm guessing Vidic is still out? Then we're looking at Carrick in midfield and Welbeck up to (though Berbatov is also decent in the air).

He may, of course, just think 'feck it', and play the side he wants, in the knowledge that we should out football them.
