Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

This whole Hazard thing smacks of wishful thinking.

Is that really anything new though......Sanchez(and possibly even Sneijder being closer to a transfer than we ever really were) last year, Ozil before that, Benzema year before that.

We love to fall for it.

Forgot PIG, probably get £1mish for him and release around £30k a week taking wages to around £70k extra rather than £100k.

PIG's going on a free I believe; contract running out this summer. Word was that he refused a move (Rangers? Celtic? I think it was Scotland anyway) last summer due to wages, so £30k might be about right as I can't see many clubs being interested in paying him United-levels, £30k might be a good balance between what we might pay him but others wouldn't be able to stretch to.

So SSN have taken to reading ITK's on Twitter now too? Nothing was said last night to make him come across that United is his preferred destination.

In all honesty, I've kept on the fence about this one watching from the sidelines, I expected he'd be a Citeh player by now... But for some reason this has the 'stench' of a United deal all over it! If Fergie was there again with Gill last night (all be it very much unconfirmed reports) that will be the 2nd time he's personally gone to watch him, a rare feat for Fergie. Hazard was pretty adamant he'd tell the world which club he would be joining last night, why did things change? I hardly suspect Chelsea winning the Champions League is going to turn his head that much, he may want to play in the CL next season but he already was going to be if he joined either Manchester side. Plus wouldn't Juan Mata be rather concerned if Chelsea were this adamant to sign him?

Further more, there was a very similar transfer situation with a certain young Spanish goalkeeper last year. Here's what happened over the space of a few days:

April 1st 2011: Representatives confirm United contact
“Well, we did have talks with Manchester United but, first of all, they always look for an agreement with the club,” Hector Rincon confirmed. “Anyway, most of the biggest European teams have shown interest in David de Gea. What I can tell you is that his release clause now is €20million, but I have no idea if the club would sell him for less. Right now, the player has a contract with Atletico Madrid and if Manchester United or any other team want him they will have to reach an agreement or pay the whole release clause. Recently, I don’t want to say any names but all the big clubs in England and in Europe have asked about him.”

April 13th 2011: Fergie plays down De Gea link
“On Italian television I am supposed to be signing two players from Italy tonight, so I can place that story along with those,” he said. “There is always speculation about who we are going to sign. So many people throw names at me. I can’t answer it.”

April 13th 2011: Atletico general manager confirms United and Chelsea offers
“Mendes is in England, but not to negotiate a deal for De Gea,” said Marin. “At the end of the season we will see if he wants to go or not. If he wants to leave, we’ll refer to his €25m (£22.3m) buy-out clause. We’ve received offers from United and Chelsea [for De Gea]. He also has an offer from us to renew his contract. We’d like him to stay, but David’s future is entirely in his own hands. The deciding vote looks as if it will be De Gea’s. Is he keen on moving to England, or will he prefer to stay in Madrid?”

April 14th 2011: De Gea claims he knows nothing
“There is nothing, it is all lies,” he told a press conference. “I know nothing about offers from any team, whether it is other clubs or a renewal from Atletico. I have given my all to this team since I have been here, and that will continue today and tomorrow, I will always fight for this team. I do not think the fans have any reason to be against me, we have the best fans in the world and they will support me until my final day, for that I am sure.”

So a representative of Atletico announces our interest, then suddenly 2 weeks later Fergie denies interest, De Gea says the transfer rumours are all lies and then Chelsea were suddenly thrown into the mix even though they were in advance stages of negotiations for Courtois! A very similar pattern here, De Gea even denied these stories from what I can find up until the 14th May.

May 24th 2011: Fergie confirms De Gea agreement
“We’ve been working on it for quite a while, we identified him a while back as one we should go for,” he said. “He’s a young goalkeeper, very quick, with good composure and presence. He’s an outstanding replacement for Edwin van der Sar. We were looking for someone with the same types of qualities. One great quality Edwin always had was his composure and organisational ability. David De Gea is very similar that way.”

United like to announce the deals themselves, evidence is clear over the past that a player will not say his 'chosen destination', it seems we choose when the announcement is made.

But, this is just a theory and the last I'll say on it until the 2nd comings decision is made, be it us, Citeh or Chelsea he joins... at the end of the day he still comes across as a cock, he'll just be more of a cock if he's playing in blue! :smirk:

and sorry for the long post, didn't expect to ramble on so much!

I bet Glazers are secretly hoping this falls by the wayside as the Sneijder, Sanchez, Benzema deals and then make us United fans believe that we were interested but the player went for the money rather than prestige.

Conspiracy theory?

i doubt it, if anything it will give them a bit more breathing room if we sign a big name player.

People are always saying "we dont sign big players and we have no money"; that will go a long way to shut people up

The likelihood of Hazard signing for United is only amplified by the waves of muppetry reverberating around internet forums such as this one. I bet in reality there's no real chance at all he is coming here. Similar to Sanchez last year and all his predecessors

The interest is concrete though, of that I am sure. I think that SAF sees him as the next footballing genius.

I agree, i sense we are working hard on a deal, but the whole things seems complex so don't expect anything until after Euros.

Btw, are Belguim in the Euros?

Seeing as the deal mentioned just two posts further up the page (about us signing the second most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football) hasn't shut anyone up, I wouldn't hold your breath.

People here seem so adamant that because we're competing against City and Chelsea we don't have a chance, which I find odd. It seems quite clear that we have met Lille's valuation of him, which looks to be around £30m, a fee we've had no problem paying for players we really wanted in the past. Chelsea have also not been offering the extortionate wages they used to in the last while, as far as I'm aware Mata arrived on less than £100k himself, so I don't think they'd be offering wages as high as City potentially would. Obviously City can offer the massive wages but even by their standards it'd be insane to go too high for a 21 year old, and put him on higher wages than Toure, Aguero etc because there would be uproar from those players as a result.

If we do sign up, the whole place will literally explode. Crazy hype that is surrounding him now, it's as if we're signing Ronaldo again, and not the ronaldo we first signed, the 06-08 one we had.

Most are full of shit though. I'm not sure it happened when we signed Tevez - certainly did when we got Nani and Anderson - people saying 'I didn't see that coming'....I dunno how many people said that but it seemed a stupid amount. It seems to me people don't want too look like mugs but IF we signed him, then who'd give a shit? If the lads got anything between his ears, obviously we're an option..if we're in for him.

just watched a little clip on Sky Sports News this afternoon and it claimed through their sky sources that he's said he wants to move to United over City and Chelsea.

The clip said it was said after his final game for Lille and his goodbyes to Lille. A Sky reporter however only asked questions to their manager and he was only saying 4 clubs were involved really and no concrete offers

Looking to be sorted in the next fortnight

I think the whole thing last Summer with Nasri is probably why a lot of people are so paranoid, seeing as he ended up going to City on a ridiculous 185k a week, something we were (rightfully) never going to match.

This is a different scenario entirely though, he's 21 and everyone wants him, we've no idea what he's like, it was always clear Nasri was on the hunt for money, even if he goes to 100k it'll still be a massive jumps in wages for him.

People should just let the thing pan out and stop calling him a cnut and cocktease etc before the deal even happens, this thread is embarrassing.

It is set to get more emabarrassing yet. Of that I am sure

If the newspaper speculation is to be believed then City are playing hardball on his wages. They now believe that they are in a position to attract players without paying insane wages.

My considered feeling is that he is inclined towards City as he probably sees them with the best short - medium term potential out of the clubs interested in him. I think it is quite reasonable to view them in this way considering the way that they are operating right now.

That said, I feel that he is unhappy with the wages on offer and is using his other offers namely Chelsea to try to up the wage packet on offer from City. It is interesting that Chelsea's name is appearing in all the newspapers now. I would speculate that Hazard's agent knows that Manchester United are not a good foil in that regard and he has leaked the stories.

I would be very surprised to see him at United and am certainly not getting my hopes up.

I'll be honest, he's played me like a fecking banjo, this guy.

I want him. So, so, badly.

And he'll betray me for another one.

I think it's more our ability to follow up on that interest in the current market that is worrying people.

Well we know what he'd cost because he has a release clause. We won't be offering as much as city. The story as I understand it is that he'd decided to sign for city. Then last week his agent met city and demanded an enormous agents fee for doing the deal. City called his bluff and he fecked off saying his client had decided to join Chelsea. In the meantime they met gill and fergie at old Trafford on Wednesday. The reports of united in the last day or two might just be his agent trying to bluff some more cash out of city or maybe he's decided that he'd like the number seven shirt and follow ronaldo. feck knows. His agent is an utter twat though.

What are your sources? Media speculation or other?

Who is his agent? And doesn't that apply to almost all agents?

Yes that's just what we want, to be continually in for players who choose other clubs over us. Thats not damaging to the brand image they are desperately trying to build around the world is it...

I can see a new username coming your way....

Can't remember his name. It's in this thread somewhere.

I guess all agents have to be hard arsed tossers but this one is apparently a complete pecker.

Sources are my matey as previously mentioned with holes filled in with stuff from relatively reliable journos on twitter. I don't think anyone knows where he's going now. He's obviously got quite an ego and I wonder if he thinks he'll have far more global appeal at united. Also it's likely that his future earnings for commercial stuff would be greater at united. That's just me second guessing him though.

He would suit that no 7 position. Could turn out to have been a stroke of genius from SAF giving it to Owen. Not so much pressure following an Owen in his twilight than a Ronaldo coming to his peak.
