Since coming back from injury in April 2011 Anderson's performances have almost all ranged from good to exceptional, unfortunately there's only been 26 of them. Well, 26 starts anyway. If he'd managed 26 starts of such consistent quality in one season his stock would be much, much higher. Hell, he's even scored seven goals in that time.
If he could stay fit he'd be a fantastic midfielder, as he has been when fit, and would solve our problems in that position instantly. It's just a shame it's such a big 'if'.

That's all very well and good but Pete wasn't just saying he wasn't great, he was saying he'd never taken a game by the scruff of the neck. Which is obviously bollocks. As you yourself mention, he's had some brilliant games for us.
Pete has always been a bit obsessed with discrediting Anderson ever since we bought him. I think it's a typical opponent fan-mentality to wish rival talents to fail.
Anderson's had spells where he's looked more than good enough to play week-in week-out for us. He's looked like our best midfielder from time to time. Pete's underrating him.
While a lot of you are overrating him. He's not a great player. He's not done consistantly well. And if we were to sell him tomorrow, he would file under "did not fulfil his potential", even if part of that is due to his injuries.

He was incosistent during the years for us, but he was excellent this season whenever he played, I can't remember underwhelming performance from him in this season. He didn't play too much though, but still, in those games he played you could easily notice improvemant in every department.

Yep, West Ham will be a great opportunity to give those two and Rooney and a game.

I really wanted him for Kagawa 20 min into the second half. Kags was being bullied a bit and think Ando could have given us more energy plus still give us a thrust forward.
He should have come on instead of Jones IMO. Both give us a lot of drive, although I feel a lot more assured that we'll keep the ball when Anderson has it. Not to worry though, I expect to see him against West 'Am.
I don't think he is fit, I'm sure Fergie would sub him on if he was.

Yeah, the best substitution would have been Ando for Kagawa (and I also wanted Hernandez for Welbeck, who was flagging a bit, and had stopped doing the closing down which was so important in the first half), but probably went for Jones in order to not risk Anderson.

Instead we showed we were the better side (comfortably) in the first half, and then did just enough to see it home in the second, leaving us with fresh legs and more options for the next couple of matches.

Awesome piece of vision, the thing is he has that in his locker to play those types of ball and also the ability to run with the ball.
I hate to be a party pooper, but he was subbed that day around the usual sort of time.
Distinctly remember seeing him a few rows in front!He was awesome that day though, no doubt. One of his very best performances.

Quite decent I thought. Nice attacking passing. Lost the ball a few times, but all in all not too shabby for an Anderson return.

Hasn't played any football for a while, and he created the only goal of the game from nothing. Not bad at all. Thought he bossed Diame and co despite being outnumbered in midfield during the first half, faded during the second understandably so, as he was partnered by a 40 year old man (who was excellent by the way) in a 2 man midfield. Promising.
Had the look of someone who wanted to really return with a bang without quite have the sharpness or match fitness to match that desire. His touch was well off with his dribbling for the most part, but at other times (that pass included) he looked a class act.
You could see that he was lacking a bit of match play. But, he has such directness and penetration he makes us tick. His play open up the game and when he move into space you can see the wingers and backs getting the space and ball so much more than without him. Hope he and Carrick/Cleverly will be fit and live for the rest of the season.
I think he has finally gotten grips of how to play in midfield and he is looking good and shaping things. Just like SAF and the back room staff predicted. It has taken some time due to injuries, but I hope we can see more of that (remember that Giggs struggled as much as him with injuries at that stage of his career).

Good first half, faded in second, good enough for a player returning from injury.

I thought he was poor. In his eagerness to impress intelligence went out the window. All he wanted to do was bomb forward. Hopefully this game rids him of some excess adrenaline.
Sloppy all in all, but that pass is a reminder of why it'll be great to get him up to speed again.

Agree his passing was superb.
Added to the downside I thought he took too many risks with his dribbling tonight. Normally that's not an issue as he's excellent at it but he lacked that sharpness/touch tonight.
All in all an acceptable performance for me and great that he's come back rather quickly, now he has every chance to really show that he can rack up close to as many appearances as he did in his first year here.
I think that this is a point that isn't picked up anywhere near as much as it should be. For all the talk of how injuries are holding him back, and if it wasn't for them, he'd be the solution to our midfield etc etc People tend to overlook that his positional sense is atrocious. In a midfield 3 or against weaker teams he can get away with it, but against the better teams, in a midfield two, I still think our midfield would get bypassed.
Its one area of his game that I really don't think has come on anywhere near as much as it should have done since he's been here.

As gb said, it's certainly better with Carrick around. And as a midfielder myself, I'm shocked to see you think it's atrocious, it really isn't, needs work for sure, but far from atrocious.
