Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Best player in the league at the moment. He and Vertonghen have been carrying Spurs for weeks now. His long range shooting has been amazing.

Aye. He is such a threat from anywhere in the opposing half, that is something that sets him apart. He can run at the opposition, in behind them, go wide and split them with a pinpoint delivery....and as you say his shooting from range is stunning at times. He can conjure up goals from nothing. Can't understand people who dismiss his technical skill. You can't play like he does, and to the point shoot accurately, with huge power from distance, if you don't possess great technique.

I think certain criticisms are understandably influenced by the small, technical masters such as Silva and Mata. They are, slughtly harshly I feel, used as a measure to pass judgement on a players technique. Bale's technical ability is very underrated I feel.

I think he's going to come to us... unless he chooses to stay this summer. He's not a Barca player, I can't see him going to PSG or any of the german clubs.. it is a straight fight between us and Madrid is the way I see it, and we have a) the local factor - he's not reknowned for being an outgoing lad so would fit into the family atmosphere of the club and b) the giggsy factor c) style of football factor - he's more likely to be given the freedom to develop and play his style at this club than any other in my opinion.

Realistically though with Levy at the helm we would have to fork out an enormous amount. If he keeps up this level of form right through to the last game of the season, his price tag will be 50 million pounds minimum this summer.

He's young, very talented and a potential commercial goldmine, so clubs will happliy pay that soirt of money for him.

Would love to see him at United. Could be a superstar.

Shirt sales, longevity... it'd be worth it in the long run, he could be huge.. a british player at that too. Fergie has a soft spot for great british talent and the thought of him and Welbeck in the side, such awesome running power.. we could bully teams.

United aren't paying £50 million for anyone. Maybe Ronaldo we'd spend big money on, but not Bale.

Ronaldo is never coming back. But £50 million making the next ronaldo? I dont see a single reason we wouldnt.

Not saying Bale will be as good as CR, he wont, not ever, but he is currently doing for spurs exactly what we have missed since Ronaldo left , barring the start of this season with Van persie, and that is a player who , even when the team is not playing well, can lift themselves and win a game.

Yesterday being a prime example of occasions where we need that.

There are half a dozen players with that ability at the highest levels of the game , Bale is one , hes a big player at spurs, at United, because of the media exposure, he'd be a global superstar.

He's one of the few players I'd like to see us splash that kinda cash on. If Spurs fail to qualify for the CL this season I can see him putting pressure on Levy to let him go for not such an outrageous amount, hopefully he won't opt for City's money though.

Let the tapping up commence.

Gareth Bale has received a glowing endorsement from Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane; increasing speculation the Spanish giants could bid for the Tottenham man at the end of the season.

The Welsh winger has been in scintillating form this term, scoring 27 times for club and country, and his performances have not gone unnoticed with Real Madrid’s director of football, who dubbed him Europe’s most impressive player.

World Cup winner and former Fifa Player of the Year, Zidane, said: ‘This year the player who’s impressed me most is not actually playing in the Champions League. He’s playing in “the other cup” and that’s Bale.

‘He’s unique. He makes things look easy, his pace is frightening, his acceleration is unbelievable because of his ability to go through the gears in very little space.

‘Plus, he’s very good technically which is also important. We mustn’t forget that he plays football very well!

‘And he’s really impressed me. I’ve seen him two or three times live, including recently at Lyon, which wasn’t necessarily his best game, but where every time he got the ball he can surprise you.’

Bale will no doubt be delighted with the assessment from Zidane, who believes the Spurs star could soon be challenging the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the very top of the game.

‘He’s perhaps not quite at the level of the other two, but he’s different,’ added the Frenchman.

‘So personally I don’t think he’s far off.’

Can see him going to City myself.

I'm the opposite. I think he's too sensible to go there. He doesn't seem as if he cares about the money to me - looks to me as if he only wants to play football, and to develop into a better player.

I'm not saying he won't develop into a better player at City - but it's more likely he'll do that at other clubs. I actually think he's better off staying at Spurs than going to City.

I think we have a shot. The transfer fee will be the only hurdle, and I understand it's a big hurdle. But his idol is Ryan Giggs so that's a massive bonus, and I remember reading a story about him and Harry Redknapp. Redknapp told him to take a few days off and to go on holiday, somewhere like Dubai or something. Bale ended up going back home to see his parents and stayed there for the duration of the break. He's that type of guy - which confuses me even more why people dislike him. He may dive a few times, but we have a few players who've gone down too easily in the past/presently.

I think it's us or Spurs.

I could see an offer to join us or Madrid a serious draw to him. Madrid to play with Ronaldo who he appears to idolise, us to come to the club that made Ronaldo the player he is and to take him up a level.

I think Madrid will be the only ones to meet his asking price. Got to be £40m easy.

I can't see him going to City or Chelsea. I think he wants that superstar status, and he won't get that there.

Thing is, if he joins Madrid, I can't see Ronaldo being too happy. Ronaldo needs to be numero uno. If Bale comes, he could very well be the numero uno to the fans. I mean, the relationship between Ronaldo and the Madrid fans isn't fantastic at the moment isn't it? (If the relationship is back to normal, then apologies).

Bale could very well steal the spot light from Ronaldo. Who knows how good Bale could potentially become? It's stupid to say that Bale will never reach Ronaldo's level. It's unlikely, but you can never say never. Bale is most certainly on track to follow in his footsteps.

If Bale goes to Madrid, then I can only see that catalyzing Ronaldo moving back to us.

Do not want.

At all.

Ever

If money wasn't a factor, then I think we'd have a great chance of getting him - given that Madrid have Ronaldo who plays the same role as Bale, Barcelona don't play with any real width and his pace would be virtually wasted there, PSG aren't a top club yet and play in a shit league, Chelsea and City wouldn't be sensible either. However, money is a factor, and probably the biggest consideration in this debate, which puts us on the back foot immediately. I could see Bayern as a potential option; rotation with Ribery and Robben and then there's also Guardiola - great club too.

If Bale is going to end up at United, we'll need to stump up some serious cash - in excess of £45 million, I think - and the player himself would need to play some part in pushing through a move here, since Levy won't want to sell to us again.

I'd love to see it happen though, and I hope the presence of Giggs, Fergie and the attraction of playing for Manchester United is enough to secure his signature!

Funnily enough if we were offered to do some sort of hypothetical cash + Nani deal for Bale I reckon most of us would now be more than willing - when that kind of hypothetical would've been laughed off by everyone other than Glaston. We would've probably demanded Bale + cash for Nani!

Erm why would we demand cash + Bale for Nani, a player who has played only a bit part role this season.

Think he was referring to maybe a year or so ago, when many many people (maybe even myself!) would've preferred Nani over Bale. IMO only complete mentalists would have the same opinion today.

Cash plus Young might be a go-er given that Tottenham share our love of building a British core.

I've still got a nagging doubt that he wont keep up this form. I think he's got to keep it up for another season before we'd consider him.

if we decide to wait that long we will miss out. I personally think he will look to leave Spurs and move up a level this summer

It didn't before, I personally don't think it will happen but it would be nice.

Actually forgot we tried to sign him when he left Southampton.

Realistically, I don't think it'll happen either, but he does seem like our kind of player/signing.

I'd snap your hand off for Bale. Don't think he should be a priority signing though, having said that I didn't think van Persie was either and he's essentially the reason we're running away with the league.

Calling Bale the best player in the league made me think the same about you. Jesus christ

Over the last couple of months there hasn't been a better performer so it's hard to argue against him being the best player in the league currently.

Whether you'd consider he's the best in the league overall I dunno but based on his performances this season he's certainly up there.

It didn't before, I personally don't think it will happen but it would be nice.

To be fair though that was when he was at his first stage, attempting to get first team football. Now he is an established player starring for 1 of the best teams in england, its time for stage 2. Becoming one of the best/biggest players in the world.

He cannot achieve that at spurs, with us he could.

I'd also add I don't think he's going anywhere this Summer providing they secure Champions League football.

He's the main man at Spurs who really seem to be a club going in the right direction. I think he'll stay there for another season at least.
