Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

Oh Wilson ey? I'm usually familiar with youth prospects but I've not seen much or in-fact heard of this lad, he a right back?

Nani is not going to start a game before he comes on as a sub, he's been out a long long time and you don't just launch him into games, he'll get 10-20 mins if he's lucky.

Good to see Chicha and Kagawa start and obviously Moyes has big plans for Welbeck for the week tie.

Hopefully this means Fellaini won't start at Bayern sadly I think Cleverley will.

He's an absolutely top quality striker with bags and bags of potential. This is such exciting news to see him on the bench, shows how highly rated he is.

Wilson has scored 5 in one game against Newcastle before, so I'm expecting something similar if he comes on.

Interesting line up... Welbeck obviously kept out with Wednesday in mind. Nani should be starting games, don't know what's going on there.

I guess he is likely to go for the same back four as last week at Munich then? The big question will be who partners Carrick in midfield. Giggs is injured(?), Fellaini didn't have the best game against them and Cleverley has generally been woeful this season (although he has played well in the big domestic games in the past).

Happy that Hernandez finally gets the start he deserves.

Difficult to see where the goals come from but gives a few players the opportunity to possibly tune-up for Munich or play their way into the team whilst giving a break the the likes of Welbeck and Carrick so they're completely 100% undeniably fit for the big one.

Jones will play where Fellaini played as Rafael can slot back into RB.

----De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Buttner
-----Jones Carrick
Valencia Kagawa Januzaj
-------Welbeck

Or Fletcher for Januzaj, I'm not sure.

Im guessing jones will partner carrick in midfield against bayern

Not a bad line up bar Young.

Hopefully Chich gets a couple of goals. He has really needed to start more games.

Very frustrating to see Young continually picked when there is Januzaj and Nani who are both unlikely to feature against Bayern.

Our attack would have the right balance in the final third with a dynamic and direct winger alongside Mata and Kagawa, but Young merely hinders the team further.
It's precisely the balance in attack that Young is picked for. He and Valencia are our only wingers that spend most of the game on the touch line, thus adding width in the attack and stretching the defense. It's needed when playing the likes of Mata, Kagawa and Rooney alongside them. I won't argue that Young is a good footballer, he's in fact awful with the ball in his feet, but his positioning out wide draws the wide defender to him and away from the CB - a space that a striker like Hernandez could explore. Plus, he does track back.
That said, to be entirely honest I wouldn't pick him, as he drives me insane. I do understand the logic behind it though.

What did Young contribute in the last game?

He contributed losing the ball which led to the free kick that Villa scored from!

Kagawa and Mata must be thinking Moyes be crazy. He has a phobia of not playing somebody providing width, just let Januzaj drift also and Valencia bomb down the wing.

God forbid Young scores a flukey goal. He'll play himself into the Bayern game...

Januzaj has played the providing width role too. I would sooner put Mata as a RAM and Kagawa the CAM if it mean't Januzaj hugged the line down the left.

Can't understand how he keeps playing Young ahead of Nani and Januzaj. Nani has been back for weeks now and he hasn't had 1 minute of football.

Fergie too had a hardon for Young and used to start him in the big games. I wonder how good he is in training whereas in actual games he's actual shite

It makes a lot of sense to rest Carrick and Welbeck considering the importance of the game against Bayern. It is a shame that injuries prevent Moyes from resting Valencia as well.

The only complaint I have is that I would have preferred Nani over Young, but I look forward to seeing Nani in the second half and Wilson during the last 10 minutes :)

Smalling and Jones are starting, along with Evra. Do you think all of them are going to be on the bench against Bayern?

Evra, hasn't played for a while so needs minutes. Reckon he'll be taken off after 60 mins if we're leading. Smalling needs game time and Jones is Jones.

That Newcastle line up is absolutely dire, it will honestly be a failure not to put 3 or 4 past them today. That being said only we can feck it up and I'm expecting us to make Cisse look like a world class striker.

He definitely is that type of player and selected for that reason don't get me wrong, but there's a host of players I would rather see wide than Young and despite the importance of his role, he hinders us massively and attacking threat is significantly lessened with him in the side.

A player who can offer pace, dynamism, while making penetrative runs and stretching the opposition defence for our other attacking players to exploit along with providing good combination-play and fluidity alongside the front four would bode far better for our attacking play.

Nani and even Welbeck meet that description far better than Young while also not doing a shabby job defensively. Januzaj doesn't provide great defensive cover, but we should compensate for that in other area if he plays.

I think what annoys us with Young is how he is not on the wavelength of Shinji and Juan. I honestly think Juan and Shinji understand each other brilliantly and if they had somebody else providing the width to stretch teams, say Adnan, that too could be on their wave length then we will be difficult to stop and it becomes a simple case of Javier putting away the great many chances he will inevitably get.

Pretty much. As it is, they all do great, then young always ruins it when he gets it.

I agree. Nani and Welbeck are not picked for different reasons though. Only justifications I could think of, for Januzaj not starting, is his young age and subsequent "fragility" or a possible start on Wednesday (unlikely). I would've chosen him.

It's been 15 months since Jones has been fit for a PL match and not started. He doesn't do being on the bench.
