We obviously have our fair share of muppets, like every other big team
I don't agree. United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern, Dortmund and Atletico fans amongst others are much better and more supportive than Madrid and Barcelona fans and far less spoilt and arrogant. They get behind their teams much more, even when things are not going well and do not turn on their teams as easily. Madrid and Barcelona fans are not just like the spoilt fans of other big clubs, they are much worse. Both sets of supporters have that reputation in Spain and amongst many supporters outside Spain. Even on this forum they have a reputation of being spoilt and arrogant and have been referred to as such many times (why do you think almost every Barcelona fan on this forum gets banned? There are not that many Madrid fans on here. If there were it would probably be the same).
"If Barcelona had Liverpool's fans, or Arsenal's, or United's, we'd have won 20 Champions Leagues, hahaha! OK, so that's an exaggeration but I've never seen anything like it. We won 3-1 at Liverpool once and we were both applauded off the pitch"-Xavi
‘I have never seen anything like the supporters there. We won 3-1 at Liverpool once and we were applauded off the pitch, and Liverpool were as well. All the players who go to England to play come back saying wonderful things about it, the fans, the people. I think I would have liked it.’-Xavi
but the point being that I don't recall our fans booing a player right after he scored a goal for us
Etoo was booed in 2008 after he scored vs Mallorca and throughout the match. Barcelona fans booed their team during a 6-0 win over Valencia in 2008 also. Just two examples that come to mind.
Never mind an under performing record transfer who is struggling to find his ground
Barcelona fans got on Neymars back last year plenty of times. It was the same with Ibrahimovich at times when he was struggling.
Though to be fair for them, as spoilt as they are, they gave Atletico and our team a standing ovation after the final Liga deciding game.
I don't see how that is such a big deal or how that is meant to negate my points or back up yours. From what I read from reports after that match and from what I have heard from people I know who were at that game, large sections of Barcelona fans booed their own players and applauded the Atletico team. A nice gesture tbf. They applauded Laurie Cunningham also among other opposition teams/players. Madrid fans have done the same with the opposition like with Ronaldinho and the whole Barcelona team, Iniesta, Silva, Del Piero, Giggs, Ajax, Levante in 2008 etc. Both sets of fans have their moments but it is not something that sets them apart from others. Its a pity, Barcelona and Madrid are both massive and great clubs. It would be fitting if thy had great supporters to go along with it that support their team a much as United, Liverpool etc fans do. The sad reality is that they do not.
