The lack of respect is mindblowing... I would also resign if he had done that to me. I can see him losing his job over this.

^^Had Benatia been rushed from previous injury by the medical department or something like that? If not I can't possibly understand that action from Guardiola... How can a doctor be responsible for an injury?

Doctor Müller-Wohlfahrt has left Bayern.

This guy is supposedly the best there is. Can't see the club being happy at all with him going.

Wonder what Robben thinks? He's had his best years of being injury free with this guy.

Yeah, that's incredibly poor and childish. Even if the doctors are to blame, just have some respect and speak to the relevant people in private rather than doing some pathetic public gesture.

my thought exactly. It's scandalous how a manager can openly do this to their staff and such childish action is not only humiliating to the doctor, it also goes to show how he's shifting responsibility. Terrible

Incredibly disrespectful from Guardiola. If Mourinho did that I can only imagine what the reaction would be.

I thought Jose blamed the medical staff for Costa lasting about 10 seconds before pulling up with hamstring issues. Obviously not the same as Pep's applause but still a bit shitty.

The players can choose their doctors on their own. Or do you think Schweinsteiger, Robben or Ribery would not stay there no matter what happens?

Pathetic from Guardiola, be interesting to see what happens now (if anything)

He didn't. He said explicitly that he doesn't blame the medical staff and that Costa passed every fitness test and trained excellently before that match.

Fair enough, I only half-heard the interview. It seemed to me like the interviewer asked "was playing Costa a mistake" and Jose more or less said "not my fault, the medical team said he was fine". Happy to be wrong!

You are actually both right. Mourinho said Costa passed all tests and trained fine, but he also said the medical staff risked by giving the ok too soon and not making him rest 4 weeks, which would have avoided the injury.

The interview I saw he was very complimentary on the staff and said it was he who decided to take the risk.

Can we not turn this into Jose vs Pep thread please.

What Pep did was stupid.

He´s probably the most powerful doctor in sports. One of the go to guys for international athletes. Like other said been with Bayern since 1977 (with a brief interruption) and German national team since 1995. This whole mess started when Thiago´s personal doctors botched his outdated surgery (according to MW), which lead to all these complications and him missing a year.

The Vine is Wow. No surprise that MW had enough. He´ll be back, when Pep is fired/released in the summer.

That looks awful. I fully understand if the staff is really pissed about that :(.

Seems like a silly thing to resign over.

He's the best there is and won't be short of job offers, I think he done the right thing after clearly being disrespected by the head man.

We've had terrible injuries this season, sign him up LVG?

Oh this has been brewing since the whole Thiago/Spanish/Brazilian surgery/treatment and MW saying it was outdated and performed poorly. Persistent rumours that Guardiola wanted his own medical staff, but after the epic fail of the Klinsmann administration (and their removal of MW) his request was denied. And Pep is not used ot the word NO.

Arsenal should be on the phone to this doctor.

He´s not leaving Munich. He´s big enough that people come to him. His clientele ranges from the German national team to Usian Bolt to Bono from U2.

That's violent when you are at the end of it, I would be hurt by something like that. Imagine Ancelotti doing the same to him, last season.

We have to remember that Guardiola hired a PI, in order to follow his players.

Edit: As a french I wanted to say that the doctors Saillant and Rolland are also excellent.

That's shocking from pep, i expected a small gesture but this is beyond disrespectful. You don't do that to anyone in your team in public even if they were wrong.

That Doctor sees other professional athletes too. I remember some AFL players had seen him at one point, and I'm sure some of Arsenal's players had seen him too.

I'm not sure if MW's reputation reflects his ability, but he did do good work for a long time. Pep, on the other hand... even with all the injuries, we should have performed better.
Insert obligatory Alonso comment...

I'm started to get really worried. We're completely losing the plot AGAIN.

Really? All the little stories you hear about him (spying on players with PIs to check their bedtimes) and his whole public personality, give me the impression of an obsessive narcissistic control freak and perfectionist. MW is a bit of a character himself. So this bust-up is hardly a surprise.

The pressure is getting to him?

What a horrible, pathetic, unprofessional and childish way to act.

I am sure that was only a very small part of it, an explosion of tension perhaps.

Bayern have had a ridiculous injury record in recent times I believe. That said, Benetia has long been injury prone.

The only injuries that take too long right now are Ribery and Schweinsteiger. Ribery got kicked in the Donezk match - was thought to be out for only a short period - got subbed in a match in which he prepared a goal for Müller - and is injured since then again.

There might be problems with the philosophy, too. In Spain injured players are travelling with the team to even get them match fit with treatments until short before the match. Bayern and Müller-Wohlfahrt always were more careful and did not risk anything longterm just for a fast benefit.

Well....I don't think I've ever seen Ferguson do something that silly. He's turning into Mourinho II

Mourinho never did something like that to a member of his staff. Phelan on the other hand, tried to kill SAF with a balloon.

He really did that? i had no idea.

Just reading a Bayern forum, apparently Pep told the board to decide between him and the medical staff. Not sure if that's true.
