Angel Di Maria | Performances | Wife: "He only joined United for money. The food was disgusting. The women look like porcelain"

I'm sure he preferred PSG, but we had him in under contract for at least another 3 years which means we could've kept him if we wanted to. He's not the first player to have wanted to leave. Even players who were 100% committed to United like Evra, Fletcher and Solskjaer had moments of wanting to leave. The difference was we had a proper manager who knew their value and was able to convince them to stay.

And put yourselves in Di Maria's shoes. He deservedly made the World XI and goes from that to sitting on the bench less than a year later. He then has the choice to go to a team who guarantees him a starting spot, at worst will make the quarter finals of the Champions League and barring a major mishap win the league. Or he can stay here, fight for 4th place and sit on the bench because he doesn't adhere to some idiots philosophy. Jeez wonder why he was so desperate to leave for PSG.

Thats an easy excuse. Van Gaal obviously didnt help, but Di Maria got dropped because Mata and Young were doing very well on the wings. When he did get his chance, he failed to take it.
Sure he could've done better, but its no coincidence that so many attacking players have struggled under van Gaal. Di maria started brilliantly, lost a bit of form, got injured, and then it seems likely that van Gaal didn't give him any slack. For some players, they need to be allowed to have those off days, like nani, so when it starts going bad, they don't get dropped right away. Especially if you want these players to be at their best.

He had plenty of chances once he come back from injury. Didnt take any of them. Similar situation currently happening with Depay.

He never wanted to be with us in the first place tbh. Wasnt it FFP that stopped PSG getting him first time round?

Still could have liked it here, if not for van Gaal. Yeah PSG wanted him and couldnt get him, but i dont think he didnt want it from the beginning. He just gave up after a few months and all the things that have happened on and off the pitch.

Exactly, he clearly never wanted to come. He much preferred to go to a plastic club backed by a despicable regime sullied by human rights abuses, corruption and terrorism links. The same regime which is at the centre of the current Fifa scandal.

As someone said earlier, feck him. Redcafe has strict rules on not wishing injury on people, but, well...

Too afraid to toughen up and play in the BPL. Skillful player no doubt but too lightweight.

It was, but that doesn't excuse LvG completely misusing him, and turning him into a very average looking player after such a promising start.

To buy and sell a £57 million player inside 11 months is beyond belief really, especially when ADM is clearly top class, but hey ho it's LvG he can just what he wants.

Thought tonight was a performance very similar to what we saw. Capable of quality with that left foot but also sloppy in his passing, frustrating and generally a bit limp.

He didn't want to come in the first place but when he did I have no doubt he tried his best. LVG misused him then and completely fecked him mentally. Di Maria didn't wanna improve and gave up trying. A collective feck up is what it is.

Play acting clown in the first half, it was embarrassing. Mixed in the second half but a beautiful cross for Ibra.

Cant fully blame LVG on this. I do think we should have persisted with the 442 diamond as it got the best out of all the players we had at the time.
but the off field stuff that happened, it seemed clear that he didnt want to continue to be with us.

We did play our best stuff after he got sent off against Arsenal. His attitude at United wasnt the greatest, especially towards the end when it seemed he had no fight for us and would drop like a fly so easily.

Why the hate for him I just don't see it, yes we may have not been his first choice but so what, if he had been used correctly, and been able to show what he is all about then that would have all been forgotten and he'd still be here now.

But LvG just failed miserably with him, and it's hard to blame ADM for wanting to get away.

Oh that's nonsense. Di Maria was very poor for us for a huge amount of games and had no fight in him. I hate how LVG is portrayed as this evil guy who sapped the lifeforce out of him or something, Di Maria was shit for at least half a season and wanted to jump ship as soon as possible.

I think, at first, he was very happy in Manchester, then Van Gaal happened.

It is basically what I said so you're writing nonsense too ? The blame is shared by everyone, LVG used him in so many systems (including up front), ADM didn't wanna fight for his Utd career.

Was never going to work out for him at United. Everything was wrong. And we weren't his preferred destination.

Thought he was very good today. He's lost a bit of pace though hasn't he? Was more explosive at Real.

Mate he was used in about five different roles, and all he managed was a run of decent games in LCM right at the start of his time at United.

Apart from that short period in a very very specific role, he did nothing apart from sulk and look petulant. Are we to believe a supposed world-class player can't thrive unless stationed in a tiny section of the pitch? That doesn't wash with me. He could have been brilliant for United had he been arsed.

No player has more Champions League assists than Angel Di Maria (11) over the last four seasons.

He's got nothing on Ashley Young.

My own personal opinion is that the burglary thing was just an excuse from ADM, and a convenient get clause for LVG.

LvG clearly had no idea how to get the best out of ADM, which is beyond stupid when he was the stellar signing that LvG asked for. He started off great and then it all fell apart, he was dynamite before he joined us, dynamite after he left, but the 12 months he was with us he was awful, now who else can you blame for that?

Ohhh Dunphy ragging on United. "Di Maria, who was on the bench at United. Now he's at a proper club"

Shots fired
A proper club?

Guess we can infer that Dunphy is in favour of financial doping and autocratic, rights-abusing government then. Sounds about right tbh.

It was the same in the last game too. Ultimately he played a decisive role in both ties though. Very frustrating player but an obvious matchwinner at the highest level.

Incredible money, brilliant stadiums and playing surfaces, top class training facilities, sports science and generally every whim catered for.

When you say "get away" you make it sound like some kind of intolerable situation. What kind of utopia do we now have to create to satisfy the modern day player.

Look this is nonsense, it's up to the manager to get the best out his players, LvG gave the nod to the record United signing, the signing that was supposed to get us back on track, but as you say other than a few fleeting moments at the start he was awful, yet he was fantastic for Madrid before he came, and has been fantastic at PSG this season, it is a nonsense to say he couldn't be arsed for us, he was just simply mismanaged.
